Discussion - Are we owed as fans to know the true health status on KT?

I don’t think legally they can unless the player volunteers the information himself.

The NFL and other pro leagues do it because HIPAA is waived as part of the agreement in the CBA.

I think you simply need to tell the truth.

1) "We are still evaluating KT. If the training staff clears him, he will play."

If this is Lebby's line, he CANNOT throw KT under the bus by making it sound like the decision is his. That will just make fans question his toughness. The decision must be put on the staff, whether it really is or isn't.

2) "Kamario really wants to be out there, but we think he needs another week to get right. This isn't something we need to rush."

I'm good with that as well. Not the answer I want, but it's the answer we may need.

As much as I want to know personally, I say no. The advantages the unknown has on the opposition is worth more than my comfort level.

Well the sec is trying to mandate it. But it’s pretty obvious a few coaches in the league aren’t taking the injury reports seriously. Lebby being one.

If he was good to go they would say so…he isn’t and won’t be for a while. Just need to be ready for Vandy Maybe we win that game, beat Auburn and TN Tech get to 7. That’s good enough. Then go get some dad gum linemans

I dont think its really an issue. What do we not know ?? He is injured and going thru treatment every day. We have seen pics of the boot. Its not an injury that you can say " next Tuesday he will be ready". Playing him too early will only worsen it. Its not necessarily pain tolerance, its mostly effectiveness. If he can run or push off on that foot he isnt very effective and sure af aint gonna heal up if he keeps playing. Lebby doesn't know when he will be ready and it definitely should not be left to K1 to decide. Im sure he wanted to play at LSU

HIPPA only applies to certain entities like healthcare providers, insurance providers etc.) not to the general public or businesses that are not "covered entities." Not sure if the NFL teams would be considered "providers." But I do know it's true the injury report is part of CBA.

What we are owed is for the head coach to do what he thinks is best for the team. This year and long term. I hate to tell y'all, but we aren't "owed" anything as fans. We choose to be fans for our own personal reasons - you can't then say "because I chose to go to school here, or because I gave some money voluntarily, you owe me _____". Just not the way life works.

If Lebby (or whoever) thinks it's best for some reason to not tell the public something... well, agree with it or not, he's the head coach and he has to make that decision and then live with the consequences. If we find out later he chose poorly, or we don't like the way he handled it -- we also have the choice to voice our opinion to Keenum or other decision makers. And they have the responsibility to do what they have to do. God help us.

Yes. Now that players are paid, and fans have the opportunity to directly give dollars for that purpose, we should know.
Just like in the NFL where we hold teams accountable for signing oft-injured players, we should be holding coaches and general managers accountable for keeping liabilities in a roster spot.

Now, HIPAA may actually be a legal barrier as was pointed out earlier in the thread, but we all know that's not what's going on here.

I'd be really surprised if the team doctors and similarly-used providers don't fall under it. Honestly, now really curious to see if any former athletes from the modern era on here remember what guidance they received.

What’s unknown? He’s healthy we’re pretty good, he’s out we suck. What is the advantage in having them prepare for Puckett to run KT out there?

Essentially - operate the way the NFL does on their injury reports.
No.

This goes for NFL and SEC - I could be wrong on this, but I don't think the injury disclosure rules are in place to pacify the fans. I think they are there in an effort to force uniformity in how and what teams disclose and put everyone on an even playing field as far as who knows what and prevent Lane Kiffinesqe tomfoolery. I also think its there for gambling interest. Outside of a uniform disclosure process, I think its fairly likely that the sports books have ways of getting information that the general public does not have. Ever see a Vegas line come out that made you think that they know something you do not?

I don't think owed is the right term. But if he is legitimately out for weeks and they know it, I would prefer they just provide that information. People are spending a lot of money around football season. Is preparing for the possibility of KT playing really going to meaningfully impact a team's ability to handle Pucket playing?

If he's really week to week, then they are telling us the status. Sucks to not have more certainty, but it is what it is.

Hell... I'd start with why we can't keep key players somewhat healthy like other teams appear to do far better than MSU does.

it's become a sure bet that the MSU qb will miss significant playing time in the season if you bet preseason. Year after year after year. It happens to no one else at the rate it does in Starkville.

What do yo as a fan gain by knowing the status of his toe? If you are a gambler, ha, you don't "deserve" the information just for your selfish personal reasons.

Owed? No. Is it a good idea if the system mandated it? Yes.

Are key injuries usually this grey? How hard is it to say "week to week rehabbing a lower leg injury" or "2-4 weeks rehabbing a foot".

Having typed that...I think I'm just going to read into what isn't being said and assume he's done for the season. We are Emstate.

Strength and conditioning seem to have a big part in player health and many on here have questioned our S&C program. I don't have any personal info on ours at all, but since our staff of experts on The Pack say we're soft then that possibly could have and will continue to contribute to injuries.

I interpreted DS’s question to simply be more along the lines of “how long is he gonna be out” as opposed to “he has a grade 2 sprain of the 4th metatarsal” or whatever.

That being said, I’m not sure the fans are owed anything either way. It’s entertainment. It is weird how differently coaches can approach it though. Ryan Day straight up said in his postgame press conference that he expected his QB to be out “multiple weeks”, without skipping a beat. Lebby on the other hand decides to say nothing at all and play coy, when everyone knows something is up regardless.

I think it depends on the coach. If the coach builds credibility with the fanbase, the fanbase can blindly trust the coach with these things. If the coach has done a piss poor job of producing results and developing the full program beyond the two or three guys that struggle with injuries, that trust is rightfully called into question and the fans deserve more.

I’m not sure Lebby could give a straight answer timeline if he does indeed have turf toe or some sort of ankle/foot issue.

Yes, in the era of NIL and give me, give me from the school. I beleive some transparency is important and builds trust with the fans.

I don't expect a full diagnosis but just as others have said, "he is week to week". Or "will be out 2-3 weeks with a toe injury". It's that simple.

Ryan Day said immediately after the OhSt game that Sayin will be out for weeks. Why is that so hard ?

HIPPA absolutely applies to them in the sense that actual healthcare entities cant release health information to anyone without the patient's written permission.

Well he gave a direct answer to Sayins status rather than a bunch of word salad about the QB2.
I guess that might make us feel better on Sunday. But does it really tell you anything? No.

First of all, maybe Sayin's injury was crystal clear and they know the timeline - while turf toe is harder to tell. That is quite possible.

But also, would you feel better if Lebby came out and said "KT will be out 4 weeks", but then behind the scene, maybe he comes back 2 weeks earlier than that, or 2 weeks later, because you really just can never tell with turf toe? What good does that do other than just shut everyone up? Come to think about it, maybe that is what he should do no matter if it's true or not.

It is a good point that he has turf toe and they don't know, Lebby can't give a timeline. But say that, "he has a toe injury and we are evaluating it week to week."

My biggest concern is the rampant rumors over the bye week. Even during the bama game, one guy said, it was hammy. Same guy said Fluff head a knee to head on the first bama play and had a concussion. People said he had surgery. Others said he didn't. People are just making up stuff because there is so much uncertainty.

One thing I’ll add is that the current SEC version of the injury reports aren’t all that different from the NFL. NFL coaches are every bit as cloak and dagger with injury reports as SEC coaches. Anyone who has ever played fantasy football could tell you that.

The only major difference is that there’s no IR in college football, because the roster size is so much bigger that there really would be no benefit to having it. If Kamario was an NFL QB, chances are that he’d be placed on IR and everyone would know he’s missing at least 4 games.

Yes, we deserve an accurate no BS injury report.

Also with Sports Gambling becoming so mainstream, those betting sites will put pressure on teams to be forthcoming on injuries just to come up with the spread...healthy K1 should get 4 Touchdowns...less than 100% K1 should be just 2 Touchdowns...No K1 is 0 Touchdowns.

I agree with you on the stupid rumors. And I might handle it differently if I was Lebby, as you said, to at least put those to bed. Even if he doesn't want to come out and say something definitive in the press conference, you could tell a couple of people who can get the word out.
