Sitake would have been a better option than Campbell

BYU at #2 is a complete joke. Anyone who watched 2 secs knows BYU is a bush league team and that ND got screwed. BYU has guys dropping all over to kill clock - no penalty. Instant replay gives BYU the world's cheapest fumble ever, which means at the end ND can't win with a FG. Then ND gets interfered with- no flag. Not only that, but only a dishonest hack would pretend ND didn't have a second left and another snap even without the should have been called penalty. Any Penn state fan wishing we had Shiitake mushroom is irksome because his team is bush league.

On top of that, BYU's a system school with a Mormon pipeline. Hiring Chesney? Sure, whatever. Hiring Sitake? Insane.

Howard might. But Freddie Scott led the entire country in yards per catch in 94. So you sound completely clueless. Plus his one handed catch against USC that year
My head hurts--this isn't insulting Freddie Scott--Freddie was a very good WR. He also ran a 4.7 at the combine. You put a guy like Howard or Sowell opposite Engram that likely creates even more big plays for a guy with Kerry's arm.
Nostalgia blinds people sometimes.

Oh there we go, citing combine results to dismiss the stellar ON-FIELD results. Buddy, this is college football, not the NFL, and Scott was a superb college receiver as we can see from his ludicrous 94 stats. Nostalgia doesn't produce 973 yards and 8 TDs for the best offense ever.

He wasn't a "superb" college wideout. Almost every single person will tell you he was the weakest starter in the lineup (I don't even think he'd argue that)--he played with one of the best offenses of all time and always saw single coverage. You're just wrong but pretend a guy running a 4.4 wouldn't have been better with Collins. Whatever makes you happy.

Next you'll say his lack of success the following year is irrelevant

This whole thread is silly because Sitake was offered the job. Chesney wasn't. Sitake declined the offer. End of story.

Chesney was a far better candidate than Sitake. Frankly, so was Terry Smith. And anything was better than wasting as much time as Kraft did.

Trying to find a "weak" starter in the 94 offense is probably the single dumbest thought experiment ever. Anyway, Scott and Engram both saw single coverage because Penn State's run game was impossibly dominant.

Engram saw lots of double
Read the question that was asked--you have to determine the weak link to answer it
See what Freddie Scott did the following year as #1 WR--he was not a great college WR--reality

He wasn't WR #1 any year. Engram was the same class. Good gosh the ignorance. Second, he had Wally Richardson at QB in 95.

I'm well aware Engram was the year after Collins, Bradey, KiJana in the draft
Why did Bobby put up comparable numbers and Freddie disappeared?

Sitake proved he was a better candidate than Campbell by using Krafty The Clown like a rented mule - that's the ironic part of this post. In terms of the Coaches still in the running, Krafty The Clown totally blew that decision as well, he chose the guy that really didn't want to be here, then after that guy uses him like a rented mule and makes a fool of him like earlier candidates, he goes with a fallback choice (bypassing one of the absolute best, if not the best, up-&-coming coaches out there) - a fall-back choice who has the worst record against P4 opponents of all 1st year P4 Coaches named this year - and spent massive sums of money for the downgrade between the huge guaranteed L/T contract he signed MC to and the $30-some million Campbell blew on worthless Portal Free Agents! You couldn't make up this kind of malpractice and negligence.

His team beat Notre Dame and is undefeated. He literally does do more with less as he was quoted a few months ago lamenting how little resources he has at BYU versus what he saw was available at PSU during the coaching search. The Notre Dame team he beat today has at least double his NIL war chest. Per insiders a number of his best players were coming with him to Happy Valley before cookie crumble got involved and ruined Krafty the Klown’s pinky swear non-written agreement. Goodness what could’ve been.
I’m sure you were thinking that after the brilliant fake punt attempt!

So, was Georgia's ceiling what Richt was doing? They hadn't won a title since 1980 before Smart arrived.
How about Indiana? They won a title--did you expect that?
The reality is--the past doesn't matter--you're building to win a title now.
We’re not Georgia and we don’t have the money Indiana has, hence why I said a lot more has to change other than the coach.

Oh you mean like Cael? Mr. Mild manners?

And oh btw, we spend ~2x more in wrestling that the #2 spender.

Results?

See how it works?
So let’s stop putting so much into wrestling and put more of that money into football.

Why can't we be Georgia? We were Georgia when we had Franklin and they had Richt.
All that money and Hoover was the best they could buy after a title? The reality is.. money wasn't an obstacle in 2025 and won't be in the future.

Set the all time single game receiving record in 95 = disappeared
Oh--now we care about a single game and ignore everything else
Had about 1/3 of the receiving yard, YPC was cut in half, had 1 TD all season--elite right there
But but but--he played well against Wisconsin in a loss

Stein was high on my list but many here would have lost their minds if we hired him.
Until we easily hold a 17-0 lead and beat Wisconsin. Then can beat either scuM or USC, both were winnable with a QB coached up better. At 2-2 in the B10 and not with a QB you hand picked with the most starts in D1 who single handedly is losing games for us no one would be already seeing the end with Stein.

Campbell has to take some responsibility for this clown show we got going on. Yes, talent is horrible but we have a QB who is atrocious and used to be better, unimpressive coordinators, underperforming O-Line. A head coach is ultimately accountable. I criticized Franklin and I will criticize Campbell.

Fire Kraft and that should light a fire under Campbell that his boss didn't hire him so he better step up or he gone. No free passes. Give him 3 years then look for the next guy.

It would be hard to find a worse fit than Sitake and PSU.

But Krapt had essentially run out of options - Sitake had to be on the bottom of the list.

Of course, after Sitake it became "Who the hell is left?" (not "Who do I want?").
As much angst as there is about Campbell right now, one of the folks one could almost certainly say "Campbell is at least a better option than ______" would be Sitake.

I dont believe anyone is saying he gets a free pass. I fully agree...after 3 years, barring a miracle, we'll be looking for the next coach. But in the meantime might as well hope for the miracle

Yeah, I don't think NIL is a problem at all--I think 2025 proved that and 2027 or 2028 will reinforce it's not.
Now if Zayas and Howard leave then I'll be the first to admit there's a problem--especially Zayas--Howard may just leave if we don't have a proven QB
NIL is a huge problem. As the rich NIL teams are buyimg all the high- end talent.

We used to recruit the ones who wanted an education (the Grand Experiment)…now all tne high end talent is o purchased by others. Hence we have virtually zero high-end talent. Zero.

The people who wanted Franklin fired, including Kraft, are people that have an unrealistic ideal of where PSU football is and has been for decades. It doesn’t matter who the coach is if a whole lot of other things don’t change and I don’t think they will. What we were doing under Franklin was the ceiling, we will now get to see what the floor looks like…enjoy.
Wrong and irrelevant. Frankin enjoyed the last few years of “Penn State sells itself”.

Now it is simply who buys the best players.

Not laughable. I like(d) Freddie Scott--his father was an amazing receiver--Jr was just solid--but Sowell and Howard fit better with Collins, Engram & Brady.
Howard is not even at JoeJ level let along FSJr.

Howard is not even playing. And Sowell has a very good game yesterday - kudos to him. But has mostly been invisible against a weak schedule. Do you think he could get open against O$U? Dream on.

Recruiting isn't nearly as important as it used to be due to the portal
Agree. We need to but to achieve level of talent of 1968 - 2011 (minus the early 2000 down years - that still has high end talent more than the current squad)

Recency bias blinds people. Sowell is Syracuse level receiver. Scott was a dynamic COLLEGE receiver (see stats pointed out above.

Big game wins 🏆 💪 are just around the corner at PSU. Purdue in 2 weeks.
Call me if he gets 12 years. In the meantime, he already has plenty more than BGJ…and with an Iowa State roster.

Franklin can’t even beat Pitt…with their second team QB (now third team)…on his home field? Did you attend. I heard it was virtuoso. And then followed up by losing to mighty Cal.

Who saw that coming?

Everyone but you!

1995 he was awful
He's playing when healthy...no reason to believe otherwise
