DA was a high level guard coming off the bench for a national championship roster. Pope didnt develop jack crap. Get real
WTF does him coming off the bench at Florida have to do with it? He didn't have to carry any weight in that role.
He was terrible last year until January, but I wouldn't expect weak minded people to be fair with critisisms.
You can say Pope isn’t good enough and still give him credit for the things he did do.

The game wasn’t pretty but it did what it’s suppose to do and that is to show you what to work on and get the players some reps. On a bright side they hit well from 3 and defense looked good. Williams and Hawthorne showed promise. I liked the big line up that he had for a little while late.

My biggest concern from tonight? Zoom Diallo. My biggest surprise? Mason Williams…

See what I did there? Even with Dad on the staff, Pope grossly overpaid Diallo, and would probably look foolish, to give the starting spot to Mason, but if he doesn’t, it almost certainly “curtains” for Pope coaching at UK. Even if he did, honestly, it probably won’t matter!

We’ve all seen this one before, and we alll know how it ends.

DA was what he was when he signed here.

If things go sideways, Donovan will be our coach next season. You can bet your house on that one
Donovan will not be a upgrade man. Yall want washed up old Donavan that won a title twenty years ago. Just keep Pope....

Get somebody young. Like stein. Is that not easy to see?

This isnt 1996..its thirty years later. Have to have a cool coach.. look at the last five years of champions.

Now, let’s all go watch Lance Dawe talk about how awesome the team looked tonight 🤣😆🤣
Lmao. I like his podcasts truly, and he has cooked with the football takes lately, but you are right. His intro tonight: "Cats had to knock off the rust tonight, but one dude stood above the rest." (Play Locked on intro)

Missed the game. The score wasn't overly impressive and the comments I've seen aren't great, but just curious if there are any indications this team can be elite based on what you watched tonight? Not just "okay" or "pretty good" because that won't cut it this season.

Remember last year when we blew out Purdue? We all thought they were championship caliber, then it was downhill since. Well this year’s exhibition was a clunker so the pendulum will swing the opposite direction, meaning this year we will have a great season. :)

Sorry to say but this team will not be elite

Problem is that the team are making many of the same mistakes that the previous team made. Shouldn’t that be concerning?

By conference play Williams is probably PG1. He's green but he looks the most natural at PG. Just a guess.
If he is, and I’m not saying he won’t be, that’s a REAL EFFING PROBLEM. But probably says a lot about where this backcourt is. Btw, how you think a kid like Diallo will handle that? This backcourt will be Popes undoing. They just don’t look very good. 3-5 could be serviceable. But you’re not going to win squat with this backcourt.

I noted after the pro day exhibition that Zoom didn't even appear to be on the court, that he didn't show up in anyway. People said, don't worry about it, he'll be fine, it's just six minute periods with mixed up rotations. Well tonight he still didn't show. That's a major concern. To me he looks more suited to be a 2 guard. On the other hand Williams looked great; honestly, looked like the best player on the court. Williams is going to need to start with Wilkins and Zoom rotating in and out as the off guard, and even then I see big concerns with whichever one is on the floor with Williams. Mom, Williams, Hawthorne, and Moreno are the only ones that impressed tonight. The team did not look cohesive.

The problem is, he “developed” him into a PG on a 14 loss team. DA wasn’t the problem. Popes inability to build a competent roster is the problem.

Reps aren’t going to solve the issues. This team has a serious LOFT problem. They shoot the 3 around 50%, they’ll win. They don’t, well, ULR ain’t walking through that door in SEC play.

Not an impressive performance.

Positives: MM, Mason Williams, long on defense, challenged shots at the rim

Negatives:
Sloppy with the ball
Guards played a lot of hero ball
Press offense
Sloppy with the ball some more

I am not freaking out after the first exhibition as I saw our 2003 team lose one to Team Nike and they ended up fine. That said, from what I saw tonight, this looks like a low end Tubby team to me. Happy to eat these words.

Impressed:

-Momcilovic
-Mason Williams overall game.
-Hawthorne's defense. Looked like Tayshaun Prince.
-3 point shooting. Can maintain 4 threats from 3 at all times.
-Defensive potential

Depressed:

-Wilkins. Loose Cannon. Terrible decisions. He kept the game under 30 almost by himself.
-Possessions. Committed nearly 20 turnovers and only had 8 offensive boards on 36 chances. Gonna have to shoot the lights out to overcome routine shooting volume disparities.

First year in my life I had absolutely no interest even turning on the game at all.

The forum is more entertaining at this point. Did Pope do his mega mind stare and squint?
Give him a couple more years. Eventually players will learn teleconesis
