Just remember that MONEY, BIGGGG MONEY, is what got OSU going so quickly. NOT, just DT. As much money as Bob has it is a paltry sum when compared to Richison. Let's not forget that Richison FUNDED the National Duals himself.

Now, yes, I do think JB is an intriguing hire if he is now "all-in". But, the situation would be vastly different unless a money man at Richison's level steps in AND Iowa's compliance department seems at all willing to give JB the latitude that DT had right away.

Mind you, Iowa reportedly lost Bassett for not being allowed to do what OkState was VERY VISIBLY doing with Forrest. Hell, even Sanderson came out and damn near straight called out DT for cheating...

We’ve been told that money isn’t the issue. But yet, here we are blaming money for DT’s recent success. I call bullshite. We have money.

Pretty naive approach MSU to think that David Taylor himself isn't a big part of the draw to come to Stillwater. There is a lot of energy with that program that money alone cannot generate.

Sorry to break it to you but many top kids would take less money to go to Happy Valley or Stillwater. You cant really argue that hard truth but this board will enjoy watching you do what you do.

First off, Iowa doesn't have billionaire money earmarked for wrestling. Maybe someone comes out of the woodwork like Richison if JB is truly a candidate for the HC position soon. You simply can't ignore that Richison funded the National Duals himself. Do you even realized how unprecedented that is in a truly fringe sport like College Wrestling?

Bob has spent a LOT of money and has still, point blank, came on here a LOT and said money is still a major factor, especially for the RTC and a LOT more needs to be spent to truly be competitive with PSU and now what OkState is doing.

JB may very well be the guy that can get the pocket books open to a comparable level. Every experience I have had says he is a very bright guy and extremely capable. However, unlike DT, those pocket books aren't WIDE OPEN and flowing giving him an offer he can't refuse. THAT IS THE GIANT DIFFERENCE HERE....

Spot on. Money is not the problem. 99.99% of other programs would kill to have even half the resources our program has.

I really hope Beth cares enough about the wrestling program to make the call and put plans in place to have JB be Tom's successor on a time frame that makes good sense for all involved. This is delicate but it absolutely can be done with the right plan and leadership.

It's not a sincere argument, he's 50% trolling and 50% coming from a place that is invested in Iowa's mediocrity.

I never said DT himself isn't a huge draw. I was simply pointing out the money that got him there, the free reign he has and the money he has to keep doing what he wants to do. It is NOT just about getting the kids there with money, but you are VERY NAIVE if you don't think the guys at OkState are getting big money. By all acounts the Raneys chose OkState over Iowa nearly last second BECAUSE of a bigger offer. That is probably the most relevant and very recent argument possible to dispel your stance here...

Without Richisons $ DT isn't in Stillwater. Without Ira and his $ Cael isn't at Penn st . Iowa isn't gonna pay 1 million dollars for a wrestling coach so donors would need to . Tom will make 800k in 28-29. DT will be close to 1.2 then. So donors would need 400-500k year to supplement Burroughs contract

Who says JB needs to be paid the same as DT? You don't think he'd "settle" for Tom's 800k? This isn't the NFL where every new QB contract has to be higher than the one prior.

Didn't Bob also say that the "playing field is now level"?

Death, taxes, and money being blamed for all of the programs shortcomings

DT is what got OSU going so quickly, not just money. And lets not forget that the reported $ package for Bassett was greater than the reported $ package for Forrest.

Wasn' that before the NIL became the Wild, Wild West. I don't think he could foresee what would happen quickly after he said that, nor the amounts of money that became part of it. If you asked him directly, I think he would be happy to answer why that didn't play out...

I didn't say DT isn't part of the reason. Just that MONEY is what got him there and MONEY is what is allowing him to do basically whatever he wants to...

You are right, vast majority of the programs would kill to have Iowa's resources. However, if the goal is to get back to the top and to do it consistently, it isn't about most programs. It is about Okie St. and PSU. Money is definitley part of the problem.

Sigh . . . it will be hard for Tom to step down at the end of this year with that money looming.

Disingenuous argument. You aren't comparing them to "99.99%" of other programs. Mind you there are only 77 DI program so you would actually be comparing them to 76. The money issue is with the TWO programs everyone is whining about Iowa not beating. Not the other 74, that they consistently do beat.....When the rubber hits the road, the money PSU has had to build themselves into what they are has consistently dwarfed Iowa and OkState is ALREADY on par with PSU with funding.

To truly compete, let alone beat PSU and now OkState, JB himself WILL NOT be enough. He will need similar resources AND latitude(compliance) to do what those teams are allowed to do. THAT is what makes money the problem...

Believe me JB will want DT money it's called ego. This is wrestling a niche sport not the NFL
Maybe he will, maybe he won't. Maybe he's smart enough to know when it comes to coach salaries there are 3 programs that can and will pay far and above anyone else and he'll have a chance to coach at one of those 3. Is Nebby going to pay him 800k? Are his camps and club? You think he'd turn down 800k salary if the right structure was in place for him to take over and build the program and RTC the way he envisioned? No chance which is exactly why he said he'd take the call.

Goodale contract is up after this year and Burroughs has been in Rutgers room so has Carr. His current club is about 55 min from Rutgers

The fact is he said he'd take the call. Iowa can pay him top 3 salary and offer him top 3 resources in the sport to go along with a tradition and fanbase that can't be replicated at Rutgers or almost anywhere else besides the top 3. If Iowa sits back and let's him go to Rutgers or anywhere else without a serious conversation it would be a huge missed opportunity.

I will never understand Iowa's compliance dept. If other schools do something for 15 straight years without the NCAA even blinking, isn't it time to give up that ghost? Or is something else in play, and it's called "compliance" to cover over some deficiency. I bet when the Brands leave, compliance will finally get religion.

I don’t think Iowa’s shortcomings are because of money, but if it is, that’s on Tom. As CEO of the Hawkeye wrestling program, he should have a plan to raise more money and be building relationships with alumni to give more money. That’s part of the job description. Look, I loved Tom as a wrestler and admire him as a human, but he has had about the same tenure as Gable. What we have seen over 19 years is a little greatness, a few horrible moments, and a lot of mediocrity. It is an outcome based sport/business, and at the end of the day it is about wins and nattys. Tom hasn’t done enough. I don’t know why it so hard for everyone to hold him accountable. I’m willing to gamble and potentially move backwards with a new hire. At least that would be trying to achieve greatness again.

DT has recruited 5 NCAA champs in two seasons on the job. You have to go back 14 seasons to get to Brands' last 5 recruits to win NCAA titles (DSJ).

It's been 6 years since the last Brands high school recruit won an NCAA title. DT put 3 on the podium last year.

And Iowa, who built a massive $25M+ wrestling facility just a few years ago, and has a coach who brags about the 7 figure donors to the program, is devoid of resources.

Keep telling yourselves the difference is money. Whatever makes you feel better.

I agree that Iowa should absolutely kick the tires with Jordan. The problem is how much it will take to get him. Bob already has stated when Tom is done he is done donating at least big sums of money. Who is going to pick up the difference is the issue. Then you need lots of donations for the RTC as well (probably way more than currently if you are being realistic). Maybe lots of smaller donors can make up the difference, but that takes tons of leg work to accomplish too. I don't believe for a second Iowa has unlimited funds, but they aren't starving either. Just not at the level of the top two. The next part is who do you think compliance limits more, David or Tom? Open check book with leeway to bend/break rules makes things look a lot more attractive to a possible new head coach for sure and you aren't going to get that at Iowa. Do you think OSU compliance says no to Bo (or Jax for that matter), because Iowa's did?!

Correct we have money; we don't currently have PSU or Okie St money though. PSU pays a couple wrestlers more than the entire Iowa roster makes. I would imagine between okie st top 3-4 kids they're equal to Iowa's whole roster in NIL amount. Money is always the issue in every sport, would be nice if there was a salary cap on sports for NIL. But will never happen, 5 for 5 should even out the talent.

The gray areas in sports have been pushed for years and until a new rule is put in place to stop it everyone catches on and pushes the envelope. Iowa seems unwilling to do that and it is only hurting/holding them back imo. It is like there is never a "we will look into that and let you know what we find out or come up with", just a yes or no.
