Can't get a feel for the Mustangs this year. Brutal 5 game stretch facing Providence, Glenbard West, Loyola, St. Francis and St. Ignatius. L-W-L-W-L. And it doesn't get any easier heading to Lombard to face the Broncos. I know the kids at St. Rita are a proud and tough bunch. Can they put last Friday behind them? I personally think Montini is a better matchup for St. Rita than St. Ignatius but still probably a 2 score underdog.

Third team they face this year with the Maroon and Gold uniforms. Not that it matters. Just an observation.

The battle of the fight songs. (same melody. St. Rita's was composed first).

The untamed horse mascot game.

Old timers for both schools could call it the Segredo Bowl (famed Admin who worked at both schools).

Hard to call. Am I too optimistic, or am I too much of a cheerleader if I say St. Rita has a chance to win?

They have the #4 QB in the nation and a slew of receivers and Rita's secondary isn't the strongest they've had....they are going to score 35 at least? Can Rita score 36? I think they can as Montini defense has been exposed weekly. Rita can't get into a deep hole though like Marist did (21-0) Marist clawed back but came up short. If you trade punches with them like GBW you can win it.

Also, Rita will he ramped up as they will want to say hi to their former WR who left Rita for Montini....why he went from being WR1 at Rita to be WR 3 at Montini I don't know why, maybe he didn't trust Fennell, but there is some part of him that has to regret this. Never leave a team for a team on your schedule next year.

As a Montini fan, I honestly think this is a very winnable game for St. Rita. Montini has failed to put together a complete game. Montini can score very fast and when they do get in a rhythm they can score on every drive but that rhythm does not last all game and you kind of just have to milk clock the whole game to reduce the amount of touches Izzy gets. if you run the ball and keep running the ball you have a good shot.

Donovan Evans has had a great year at Montini so far and is definitely not WR #3 but you guys are familiar with his talent. There are several other big playmakers on the team that do really well coming down with contested catches but I will say the o-line looks a bit shaky and Izzy has to run for his life a lot in the backfield so you just have to actually sack him which is easier said then done.

My WR #3 comment about Evans was from a Rita friend of mine who was not too happy he left so maybe he was just hoping he was # 3. I have not seen him play or any stats from this year so I apologize if I passed on half cocked info.

No problem at all. He may have said that after his first few weeks where it definitely took time for him to get going but he’s been coming up big time the last few weeks.

I have this game as a bronco win in a close one due to home field advantage. I like your comparisons especially the Segredo connection , fight songs and horse mascots…

montini has a powerful offense. Defense would be better if the offense didn’t score so quickly. But the logic is score as many points as you can even if it’s quickly in a deep ball so long as defense is giving you the deep ball and your offense can score on the deep ball, as the broncos can.

That’s why I give Rita a decent shot in this game bc I’m convinced they are not as bad as they showed against Iggy, especially when they play a team more in line with the style of play they are used to. Montini is going to be a completely different challenge and likely one that they match up better against.

Francis got stopped twice on the GL, credit to Rita, but that game is totally different if able to score. Montini is way better skill possition wise right now than Francis. I think Rita will struggle to slow Montini down.

I agree with this take^ Montini can’t get off the field on 3rd down and they cannot defend the option (see Sandburg game). Best way to nullify montini’s “max prep” all American DE is by simply not blocking him. Also specials has been killing Montini, they squib every kickoff and only sent 10 out for a field goal last week that got blocked. 28-27 rita boys!

So frustrating they get the job done but they are making it so hard. They are executing very well but they would have had an opportunity for another drive if their drives weren’t being slowed down by the lack of discipline

I don’t think they have. And Montini is picking them apart with short completions. Not just hero ball.

Yeah this really should not be this close but the Rita onside kicks were masterful. Montini is playing a lot of players both ways which is actually something new I’ve seen. I think it is having an impact because they aren’t used to it.

its also kind of crazy bc Montini hasn’t been stopped on a drive yet but they weren’t even on the field for 10 minutes straight bc if the onside kicks. Have a feeling Montini will practice onside recoveries for hours

This team would be 1-5 without Izzy and I’m not even joking. On the season they would be 2-7. This game should have been a win by 28+ if they had any functioning special teams or defense but once again they show they don’t. Honestly this was a clown show and may be the worst game I’ve ever seen from Montini in over 20 years of watching.

I had them dead for rights after last week's horrible loss to Iggy. And when SR/MC were trading FGs to TDs, it looked that way as well.

Had no clue an 18 to 0 run would make up for that FG/TD deficit because of two onside kicks. I have to assume the coaching staff worked on this.
