You didn't want any of them besides Robinson? Really???

No shot? Burks wanted to stay. Antigua who recruited several of them wanted to stay which likely would gave helped, and several of them have transferred away from Arkansas since.

Sounds like your brain cells rewrote some history or pretends some players we just didn't want but still tried to get.

It's someone being honest. Sorry that hurts.
Pope didn’t want Cal's stench anywhere around the program, because Cal was NBA first, he didn't give a sh*t about UK and I don't blame Pope for doing what he did.

You’re not even a UK fan, I don't even onow why I'm wasting my time, you're nothing but a stank a$$ troll.

Curt Cignetti disagrees. I know Indiana is probably an outlier but there’s no excuses for anyone anymore. If they can do it as quickly as they did then nobody has an excuse anymore.
Cignetti, brought 13 players with him from JMU, 6 started on the National Championship team. All 6 were impact players. Will Stiens, doesn't have that kind of luxury!! Stiens is building basically from scratch!!

Does Florida win the title two years ago with a hobnled pg, hobbled pf, no backup pg and down their starting sf?

Heck, do they even make it to the sweet 16? They almost lost in the 2nd round that year.

How about Michigan last year. Take away 2 starters and injur 2 more, do they win anything or merit?

I don't expect you to answer honestly.
There coaches were smart enough to recruit backups. So probably. But, there coaches could also coach as well, which makes another big difference.

Didn't Cal take Arkansas to the Sw16 with an injured pg last year?

Mizzour and UGA beat that same UF team. They contenders too? Lmao

It's no different than getting ran of the floor by like 10 teams that have done so to Pope in 2 years. Particularly when it's obvious we just gave up.

Of course you don't care, that would negate the argument it was a solid win.

Did Michigan just win the natty with an injured player?

Also, who failed to recruit backup PGs 2 years in a row now?
Pope has a 3rd year to prove himself, I don't think he is good enough, but he isn't trash, that's ridiculous critisism.

Blame Mitch, he’s the one who hired him.

Are you dense? Those were Cal's recruits. And why the F would we want Ivisic, Burks, Ugonna, or Bradshaw? They're garbage and the others were going to follow Cal wherever he went. They weren't coming here for UK, they were coming here because they were sold on the NBA by Cal, not UK.

Get some common sense.
They were Cal's recruits that didn't follow Cal or transfered from him later. JQ and Perry were Cal recruits as well, as was Sheppard. We still tried to keep them or recruited them later.

Also, if you keep Orlando, who recruited many of them, you help retain some of them.

Burks is garbage? Ugonna, arguably the best shot blocker last year is garbage? Bradshaw sure didn't look like garbage against UK.

Sounds like they just weren't into Pope. Kind of like his former players and the rest of the top HS recruits and pretty much every other target we go after.

Sounds like I have the common sense between the 2 of us.

Didn't want Cal's stench. Tried to recruit Ivisic, went after JQ, tried to keep Sheppard, recruited Perry, and tries to keep former Cal guys as involved in the program as possible. But didn't want Cal's stench as you say. That makes sense. 🤣

The entire sw16 can't be contenders. We also finished like 5th or 6th in our own conference. That is not a contender.

If we haven't had expectations of contending in football we wouldn't have fired Stoops and been disappointed when we lost yesterday. That's literally the definition of expectations.

We don't expect to be near the top as long as Pope is here.

Didn't UK football also when a national championship several decades ago?
So teams three wins away from the championship can't be contenders?

I didn't say we don't have expectations in football. They are just tremendously different.

No. Not when they have 0 chance to win.

Dog, we didn't even contend in the sw16 game. We didn't contend in our conference regular season or tournament, yet you honestly think we were contenders for the national championship?

16 teams have to make the sw16. That doesn't make them contenders.

Man once again I'm not defending Pope at all. I've loudly stated he should be fired before anyone said he should be fired.

I was simply saying even as bad as he is it will be better results than any football coach can get out of the football program because it's two completely different situations with different history and expectations.

Who said you were defending him? But you are kind of negating reality in favor of him it seems.

You're comparing apples and oranges.

UK has only recently started investing heavily in football. We did win a NC in the 1950. Also won the SEC in 76. 2 citrus bowls in 4 years also isn't exactly bad.

Do I think UK FOOTBALL is a success overall? Nope.

But it's clearly had more accomplishments than you give credit for.

Huh, we were top 10 Pope's first year.
In December. 2013 Kentucky team who lost in the NIT was ranked in December. It just suxs Kentucky hired a loser who’s never won any kind of championship and any level as a coach! Sad days and mediocre is here has long as Joseph smith is coach!

I can't give or take anything to or from either program. The history speaks for itself.

I had hope we'd compete with Bama yesterday. But I never expected to win. I fully expect to kick Bamas *** in basketball.

I doubt that’s true, it makes Pope look like a vindictive weirdo. I don’t believe it. I’m assuming it’s not. But Cal is part of Kentucky history more than Mark Pope will ever be. The man has won a title and went to 4 final fours. I know he was washed the last couple years, but that doesn’t change what he’s contributed. Pope has no right to “wash” Cal’s contributions to Kentucky.

Fun ain’t it?
As long as we suck at basketball, it’ll just keep getting worse. Fans are antsy. People gave false hope that this football season would soften the blow from a frustrating basketball offseason but it hasn’t happened and probably won’t . There’s a general dread going into the basketball season that many of us cannot control.

That doesn’t include those of us who are on Reddit, Twitter or Facebook where there are hoards of trolls from rivals like Tennessee and Louisville along with a new set of trolls from teams like Arkansas and BYU taunting Kentucky fans for the relation of one team having our former coach and the other having their former coach who somehow keeps losing recruiting battles against.

I’m not even including other neutral fans basically treating Mark Pope as the new Tom Crean. Being a Kentucky fan freaking sucks right now.

Lol, you expect to kick Bama's *** in basketball? You realize they are likely to be far better than us, right?

They have kicked our *** the last two years. But I never expect that to be the norm. It's the norm for football to get blown out by Bama. Stein won't catch heat for that his entire tenure here.

If we are counting championships for Kentucky football from whenever back in the day I'm all for claiming a championship. But there's no telling when that was. Ive heard we won a championship back in the day..

If you don't expect Bama to continue to beat our *** under Pope, you haven't been paying attention.

Sure he will. We didn't fire stoops and make big investments to continue the status quo in football. He will start making a difference in 3 or so years or be shown the door.

1950. Won the SEC in 76. It's really not that hard.

I Hate to break this news to you, but Pope did recruit JQ and get this, JQ actually accepted and wore a UK jersey last year, so what exactly do you want?
So, if you take over as a coach and you have a certain style, wouldn't you recruit to that style? You're critisizing him for not going after guys that aren't even close to fitting his style of play. He tried it last year, that didn't work out so well.

What are you actually saying you don't believe? That Pope didn’t want Cal's stench anywhere around the program?

Pope took down all the NBA bullsh*t and turned everone away that wanted to stay, including Antigua. It’s quite obvious to me.

Uh, Pope won a title here too, he was the captain of our greatest team. Cal is going to be known as the guy that prioritized the NBA over UK and did less with more.

Oh trust me, I know exactly who this jackhole is. I enjoy highlighting his troll behavior, so the mods can clearly see who they need to extinguish.
Yep. He’s the trash that chose to make fun of a fellow poster that had his house destroyed by a flood.

Some folks like him are so dumb they can’t help but conflate year 1 and year 2.

Against Bama year 1. First meeting was a matchup of two top ten teams. Good game but Bama did win.

What happened the next two games? No Robinson. No Butler. Travis Perry started and averaged almost 30 minutes per game for goodness sakes.

What you’ll notice is, he’ll show all kinds of grace towards Duke because a couple players had to sit out a couple seconds but won’t show any grace towards his “favorite” team.

After he let him go the first year and when he knew he wasn't likely to contribute as he was damaged goods by that point. We literally got him by overpaying him to sit on the bench.

You go after talented guys. You know, the one's he keeps going after and whiffing on. You act like that isn't happening. And were his BYU guys that didn't want to follow him not players he recruited to play his style?

Did they not work out or is he just not a good coach? Look at their stats prior to UK, while at UK and now after UK. You're very likely going to notice a trend.

Took Wagner from 13-17 to 25-6 in 1 year.

Took Rhode Island to the 2nd rd twice and won both A-10 regular season and conference championships. Also named A-10 COY.

That was his first 8 years as a HC.

Then he took over Uconn on probation, post Kevin Ollie, with a scholarship reduction, no NIL and no instant tranfer portal and you know the rest there.

Now, you do Pope! ;)
