Gotta wonder if that was the issue. As far as getting DBs into The League, Schiano has a proven track record in that department. Assume this latter is not the reason he is leaving.

We need significant upgrades across the board in the defensive backfield and everywhere else on the D.

He was ok. Was getting on the field for a team/coach that develops NFL DBs so I am surprised he left. He is replaceable and hopefully we can upgrade.

Mascoe took poor angles, had poor eye discipline & missed making tackles every game, so blame the scheme!

I like Masco and while it did seem he took a step back last year- think about that. It would mean that he was actually better the year before. This seems more indicative of coaching rather than a player's talent.

I do think he is a loss for us next year as he also has a lot of experience and has shown previously, that he can do the job

Coaches come up with a players valuation to decide how much the player can be paid within the existing budget, if a player and his agent think they are worth more then what the coaches think, welcome to the portal. Lots of players will either, score big or get a rude awakening, if what they think they are worth is not what the market thinks.

I was thinking the other day. Bo seemed like he was about to become one of our classic very good DB’s before a drastic drop off. And then I look more at our entire DB room and see that they all seemed to suffer in the same way over the past couple of years.
maybe it was coaching rather than ability.

Texas doesn’t just go out and pay bad players.

Was it the Maryland game when Bo inexplicably followed the play fake from the CB position and the QB ran for a long TD?

His “portal ranking” really stood out to me. I think I saw 3rd best corner available which seemed surprising. A few comments said he struggled due to our lack of pass rush. Maybe there’s something to that

That’s a bogus ranking.
Let’s get Miller from Michigan or Koi from Minnesota.
We need some P4 Transfers on D.

something was wrong with our defense that was not all about ability. Masco got worse, we had one good transfer from PSU who was ok but really nothing special and our big paycheck DB was awful. It cant be that all of entire backfield just got worse. And now we see a team like Texas recognizing that Masco is worthy of a spot on a annual CFP type team.

Agree Bo was the least of the problems on the defensive side of the ball. He was chosen as honorable mention all B1G by both the coaches and writers. Did he have a great year? Absolutely not. But he covered for the safeties who were absolutely atrocious.
