Financial hit aside, whatever gets rid of Schiano the fastest is a great thing. Some losing 5 win season may or may not have done it. This is what had to happen. We will have a much better coach leading this program. If losing this season is price, then so be it.

Just audit the program and I’m sure there will be plenty of evidence that can be used to terminate his contract. No show jobs. Conflicts or interest. Undocumented expenses. Where did the money go?

I think this is right. The Cult of Schiano is such at Rutgers (there are still people making excuses for him!) that it would take nothing less than a full, epic faceplant to sweep him out. Well, so, congratulations, because that’s exactly what is unfolding here. It’s a bitter poison for Rutgers fans to swallow, watching this unfold like this, but it had to happen. There will be no queasiness about what to do after a 5-win season, because that’s totally unobtainable at this point.

Sorry to say…this feels like an intentional program killer! Look at our portal haul. App State, Citadel, etc

let’s get out of this filthy business. Dump Zinn and Tate too!!
You come on a Rutgers sports board which suggests you enjoy Rutgers sports. If that is the case how can you possible be calling for the head of most pro sports President ever? Unless you just logged in to troll.

So many people criticizing bringing back Schiano for his second stint. At the time, Schiano was the only one who could keep NJ athletes home. He was the opposite of Ash. But with NIL, keeping kids home is no longer possible. And we all know he’s not a great head coach. If Rutgers can’t find big money (Miracle), it doesn’t matter what coach they bring in.

Sooner or later it’s time to rip the band-aid off. Until Schiano is gone, I’m fine with losing every damn game.

Schiano ran the program under Hobbs and the president that I can’t even remember his name. …oh yeah, Holloway. We’ll see for sure if he still is if he’s still here in a week or two.

My buddy upset we scheduled Indiana as HoCo after Oregon debacle. I said “good. Let everyone see another *** kicking in person.” And not for nothing, we dumped to a ****** UCLA team two seasons ago on homecoming so unless it’s Howard what’s the difference?

When did this happen? I was on this board several years before "Pandemonium in Piscataway" and left in late 2019 / early 2020 because I was FIRMLY against rehiring him. Nearly this entire board disagreed with me and I chose to leave before I started to alienate the majority of the board. This "... he is the only one who could..." nonsense is not grounded in any reality and is almost entirely wishful thinking / justification for their opinion. Most of the people on the board "knew" he was also the only one who could win the Big East and get us to a BCS Bowl, which neither happened. The problem here is that RU has always done things on the cheap and hopefully those days are over since we are in the B1G.

It may be time for RU to abandone professional sports. Rutgers is selling its soul for big time football money. Players aren’t students, and can’t even read, nobody cares. Unless we are going to be competitive, which we will never be, it’s time to go back to amateurs playing Colgate. I’m afraid that we are being paid to lose, like the Washington Generals!

Tate and Zinn are part of the problem. They are here to sell our souls.

Change is coming. No way it can’t now.
Eventually if not sooner.
But I expect Zinn to wait as long as she can to get the funds for a buyout, before sacking Schiano.
I wouldn't be surprised to learn Keli is brining him back , if RU goes 4-8 this year because Greg;s buyout and the money it will take to bring in a HC Zinn feels can make RU competitive in the B1G will not be there and instead of accepting a bargan basement hire Zinn will bide her time to find a good HC and the money it will take to get him and buyout Schiano.

editing to say:
Greg needs to go Double ASAP and Zinn needs to find the money or admit it will take awhile to get rid of Schiano because she doesn't have enough funding to buy him out and hire quality to replace him

It costs a lot of money to field programs and maintain facilities and equipment across various sports regardless of the levels of competition. This isnt 1972 anymore even though an old coot like you might want to go back there. If we went back to becoming an independent or playing at a lower level, trolls like you would just complain about something else....like when we were in the AAC.

But the money he will be owed might just allow him to stay , despite nor being wanted.

It may seem daunting on the surface. But you have to weigh in rhe potential adverse revenue hit by keeping him in fan disinterest/ticket sale drop/concessions as well as high staff costs. Will probably also save on helicopter fees LOL.

This is the fiction that fueled fan sentiment to bring him back. Yes, Ash was horrendous, but it was never a binary choice between Schiano and the field of terrible coaches Rutgers has hired over the last fifty years. Schiano did a great job turning Rutgers into a real program instead if one that just belonged to a major conference. But he was in decline even at the end of 1.0. Beginning the week after the 2006 Louisville game, he went just 17-21 in conference games until he went to Tampa Bay. So why was he considered the only one who could don It there?

It was always up to Rutgers to go out and hire another good coach to replace him. Yes, the timing was bad, and Flood kind if fell to you, but there was no excuse for hiring Ash. And as bad as Hobbs was, his instinct not to bring Schiano back was correct. That’s where it went wrong.

You finally have an AD who seems competent. She is at least replacement level, which is better than you’ve had. We‘ll see what she can come up with to right your ship. It does finally feel like adults are in charge, rather than ninnies enthralled by the Cult of Schiano.

Its " a blessing" if RU gets the next hire right. People speak highly about Zinn but that happens a lot with lady hires these days. I have no reason to think she knows about football as yet. She might be one of those "BigName/PrizeCoordinator types that fail so often.

Feel that way if it makes you feel better sunshine, flood is demonstrably better at coaching than both ash and chop…PERIOD END OF ****ING STORY.
Cope better
Flood definitely was better than Ash and as for Kyle being superior to G2, won't get an argument from me.
But looking back fondly in the Falood era is only because Ruters was so bad inder Ash and the imitation we call Schiano2
Schiano1 , flaws and all, was better then his replacements and that includes the version of him we're seeing now.

Flood is looked on as a success now , because he's the most successful failure .
When it comes to success, to reach it in their HCs , Rutgers fans need to set the bar low to claim a HC was a success
Flood (26-22)won more than he lost, some might call him a success because of that.
But Kyle wasn't going to bring the program to glory and his program's off field antics were an embarrassment

Granted the AD wanted him gone, the fans and booster didn't want him.
He stayed as long as he did because no one was willing to put up the money to buy him out.
After Kyle circumvents the academic support staff and contacted a Professor Rutgers then fired him and gave him his $1.5 mil buyout

Or we could get another Ash and begin the coaching carousel of death. Look, Schiano's done here and it's time for him to go (I know you've been waiting for this moment for seven years).

But we don't have enough NIL or money to entice an established coach. So, we'll be searching for lightning in a bottle. We're the lowest rung on the B1G ladder not many want to commit career suicide.

Hiring and firing is the nature of the beast for the programs that aim to win. Rutgers hasn’t been one of those programs for a while. And while Hobbs deserves lots of disdainfor his overall body of work, his Schiano moves were not entirely up to him. Schiano was forced on him 7 years ago and the extension decisions were certainly what the real powers hoped to see work out. The buck didn’t stop at Hobbs just like it doesn’t stop with Tate and Zinn. The buck stops at the Boards and its expectations for him remain very low.

Chopper 2.0 has waaaay more resources than Ash. His salary is also 3x. We aren’t getting nearly the juice out of the investment.

I think Keli will get the funds. Even so, we know Schiano is a loser. I’d take my chances with anyone else at this point. This Ash level anyway.

We will be swimming in a very small shallow pool of candidates. I have no illusions with such restrictions that Rutgers will be able to get this right. Again, he has to go, but it'll be more, change for change sake. I have a feeling we'll be having this exact same discussion in 3 to 4 yrs.

Maybe. But we don’t know unless we try. We know Greg is a loser. Him pulling a Sxhiano at the absolute worst time. And F Hobbs for that contract.

No one is hiring Greg Schiano outside of some high school so that offset is irrelevant. That tainted goods now, and really, outside of Rutgers, always was
