Cignetti benefited from significant investments that Indiana made in its football programs facilities. Going back to Gruninger, we never had money to make the proper decisions. Gruninger interviewed Glen Mason at Woodbridge Diner, which shows how half-assed things were done.

when recruits visit Michigan and they compare with Rutgers they immediately know which program is serious about football and which is pretending.

Money is the primary ingredient for success because without money, you can’t choose the best available players. That is what I have contended all along. Miami significantly upgraded their facilities and is paying top dollar for recruits.
Indiana is paying top dollar for quarterbacks.
They paid Mendoza $2.6M and big money to this years qb Josh Hoover. Meanwhile, We’re shopping the bargain bin. You think we should be able to find good players on the cheap, unless I am misunderstanding you. That’s not reality, that’s fantasyland.

to each his own. I prefer the view from my Ivory Tower, which isn’t an slum, and superior protection from the Riff Raff.

Keep switching the story Al. It’s not about quality of food. It’s not about price point. It’s about ease and anonymity.
Championship teams don’t operate like that, because impressions are everything. Miami treats prospective recruits and coaches in a first class manner, rolling out the red carpet, and the results are self evident.

Things broke off between the candidate and Rutgers after the interview, and from my recollection, the media used the episode to portray how small time Rutgers was. Thankfully, since then Rutgers has not done anything similar that I’m aware of. There are plenty of nicer places to have ease and anonymity.

Friday Night, we take back our season! Changes will be made, most notably, to boost the running game. Performance will be optimized. And we’re going to beat BC’s ***, which will never get old.

We owe them plenty of payback. Prior to Schiano, when we weren’t so great, BC used to drill us regularly. By the time Schiano built a competitive team, BC ran away to the friendlier confines of the ACC, because they knew the beatdowns were coming.

Cincinnati ran over Boston College last Saturday, rushing 46 times for 254 yards. We will do similarly, relying on Antwan Raymond to rebound from last Saturday’s disappointing performance. Cincinnati only threw 15 passes. We will probably throw more passes, since we have Korey Duff, who is coming off a scintillating 196 receiving yard performance. I think he easily crosses 100 yards receiving.

I’m going with
Rutgers 34
BC 17

See you at the Game!
Oh Al now you show up,, BC QB passed for 223 yards and ran for 78 yards against Cin. We better be ready of its going to be a long day.

You clueless clown, our head coach is the most successful in Rutgers History! He didn’t forget how to coach or recruit. He will turn this around.
Al let me give you a little history lesson, Frank Burns' record at Rutgers was 78-43-1 a ( .643 percentage). GS is 99-109, sub .500, so when you say the he is the most successful coach in Rutgers' history. I am not going to call you a clown but you are definitely clueless. ,

That looks like it's a view from a jail. Are you on Rikers?
Haha. West side of Manhattan in 40s near Intrepid, across river from Weehawken.

Neighborhood has been in headlines recently.

I lived on Weehawken side for a while and was alright for commuting quickly from Jersey to midtown.

Besides Burns "Dr. John," Bateman proved more successful In his 13 seasons as head coach, Rutgers posted a mark of 73-51 and an undefeated season in 1961.
That makes Bateman a more successful RU HC than Schiano has been in both tenures.
Remember Greg's best season crashed and burned after the great Louie win .
"Dr. John" kept on trucking.

The 1976 Rutgers football team is remembered among the best in the program’s history. Posting a perfect 11-0 record under head coach Frank Burns
Greg , so far, can't be considered better than Frank

So there are two RU FB Coaches that must be considered mire successful than Schiano .
George Sanford 56-13-5 could be considered more successful.
Harvey Harman 75-44-2 record was split from when he first was HC then left to serve in the Navy in WW2 and returned back to being the RU HC after serving his country with honor.
I would put him ahead of Greg when it comes to being a RU success story.

Greg successfully put Rutgers on the road to success twice, but couldn't get it over the sped bump to run in the fast lane with the top programs and his second term seems to have hit a stumbling block that he doesn't seem to know how to overcome

So bulge bracket firms on Wall st and white shoe law firms operate outside of what you expect. Many times anonymity is more important than a 1k dinner.

You have to factor in the quality of the teams on the schedules Bateman and Burns and Schiano were up against.
Colgate and Princeton were the big games back in Burns and Bateman's day. It's unfaif to compare their records vs. a guy's who faced a Big Ten schedule every year.

Man what ru you talking about if a sub 500 Bosch is your most successful then what does that daily about the program . Also don't change the question that was asked, he said most successful, not once did he say anything about the schedule. But here we go again, some people always want to make excuses for Gs. When the truth is the truth sub 500 record m, you can't be considered a good coach. What is he gonna put on his resume, oh I beat Lville in 2006, wow 20 years ago. That is like Al Bundy talking about the 4 touchdowns he scored the 1966 City Championship😂😂😂😂

I was referring to Frank Burns actually. His budget matched the schedule of playing Colgate and Princeton. Not his fault that’s who we played at the time

Michigan almost lost to Western Michigan. Yanks lose to small market teams all the time. Money doesn’t guarantee success.

Donations should have poured in when Schiano started and they didn’t. Now all of a sudden they’ll pour in for an outsider? Come on, Man! Get Real.

Donations have never poured in at Rutgers, so your point has no merit. Very easy to post about donations on the messageboard. Much harder to write that check.
Maybe one day fans from a NIL power team will be talking about us like you are with W MIch.

I really don't understand the need for people on this board to direct personal attacks at Al.
He is an over enthusiastic optimist about RU football. Many (many) times he comes across as delusional and at times he is.
If you think that the guy is an idiot then remember only an idiot argues with an idiot.
So if you want to criticize his views on Greg, facilities, NIL or anything else go ahead but there's no need for some of things said about Al on this Board. He's not going away and good for him for that. Don't forget that you can always utilize the "Ignore" button if needed. I found it to be great option.
Now who will be the sharpest knife in the drawer and post the "Leave Brittany Alone" meme as a response to this?

Clueless as usual. He was offered the Miami, Michigan, and Tennessee jobs, even if he didn’t finalize things with those schools. He was hired at Tampa Bay. Administrations are willing to overlook his mediocre record because it was accomplished at Rutgers, which has never had adequate resources to compete. Nothing has changed.

We spent a ton of effort recruiting Kai Pritchard, a linemen from Toms River, who visited Rutgers a bunch of times, then opted for Illinois. Unlike GS 1.0, we haven’t recruited one offensive or defensive lineman of note. Our best lineman during GS 2.0, was Hollin Pierce, who is currently a free agent. During 1.0, we recruited Jeremy Zuttah and Anthony Davis. These days, similar caliber prospects are taking the bag and going elsewhere. This is why it has been very difficult for us to compete. Our value proposition isn’t competitive enough for the best prospects. So we either improve it, or live with the less than stellar results.

Please stop. Are you trying to say we didn’t have the money to build a good enough OL unit to beat UMass? Greg had not lost a single non-conference game before this one. Our OL has performed fine against this level competition under Flaherty’s direction in every single OOC game over the past 3 years. Most of the same damn players from last year’s line are back including 2 that projected to start last season before injury. The coaching change - a decision made by Greg, was the change. Nothing to do with NIL resources. That unit was completely outplayed by UMass. Many of the same players who stacked up just fine last year against most of the BIG teams outside the very best. Again - please stop this nonsense. We just lost to UMass. Not Oregon. Unreal.

Fine. Then it's definitely Harvey J. Harman who coached from 1938-41 and 1946-55 with a record of 74-44-2.
And he did it with no NIL money, inferior facilities, and a limited support staff.

I’m trying to educate you that RU isn’t viewed as a bulge bracket firm by the best football recruits. It’s viewed as an outhouse.

This used to be my way of thinking about Al. But he‘s no longer just overly enthusiastic and optimistic. He’s changed his tune. Most of his posts now are lectures and condescension about how everyone on this board sucks and doesn’t donate enough. While I’ll agree that RU certainly has an uphill battle when it comes to NIL & financial support of the program, the problem doesn’t reside with active posters on this board.

Optimistic Al was sort of a fun caricature. Lecturing Al is hard to tolerate.

Al I usually don't go for the neck but you call me clueless😂😂 Areny you the one that by year 10 GS would win a NC. If he would have accepted u of those jobs, he would have been exposed and ran out of town in 3 years. If he was a good coach he would t have returned here. I will give you this you are a true blue fan. You an GS are similar, he talks good game but can't coach, you make excuses for GS but are clueless when it comes to his coaching ability.

Can you name a school that would even grant him an interview now? The answer is nobody. Will you blame

For those NOT on The Round Table:

Mike B just put an end to Al's ASSumptions, ******** and flat-out LIES, regarding what we did/didn't spend in the portal this offseason as compared to what UMass spent in an attempt to spin his nonsensical narratives), in a single post.

(I know, I know....not supposed to talk about the RT on the free board, but this just had to be done....)
