The explanation is there was different video that the refs used which was apparently more accurate. From that video it showed Western Michigan's #18 touching the ball with 1 second left. They supplied that video to the MAC commissioner and the MAC confirmed this was correct.

This seems to be a legit win for Michigan notwithstanding it being highly annoying that of all teams/programs to get a lucky break it is Michigan.

What is lost in all this is how horrible WMU played the last 20 seconds. Michigan never should have had the ball all the way at midfield. They gave up a huge 25 yard pass to set it all up. Then they play that second Hail Mary miserably. They just let the Michigan guy high point the ball without much of a challenge. Really really poor defense.

I just hope Michigan does not improve much from this game and goes on to lose a lot of games this year. I feel better about our game there and us beating them.

What a loser, it is very clear there was not a second left on the clock in the stadium. The only way he could be mistaken and not full of **** is that he was watching the clock and not the actual play, which would be hard to believe.

So in this story, Terry McAulley confirms the official clock is synced with the stadium clock with some sort of strobe light system.

""Eighty-five minutes prior to the game, all broadcast cameras used for the replay system, including the camera on the game clock, are synced using a strobe system to ensure all cameras are aligned."

So we know how that works now, and occasionally during the game the refs make corrections to the stadium/broadcast clock. The very last thing done on the field before the first hail Mary occurs is the refs putting the clock from 8 seconds to 9 seconds, once again assuring all clocks are synchronized. So, to be clear, the very last thing done before this play was to synchronize the clocks. We can all see the time expire when the ball is the air, but somehow the BIG claims they have a replay that shows time on the clock when the ball is touched?

I thought the change from 8 to 9 seconds was legit.

How about the non-called blatant Facemasking by the scUM defender on WMU's failed 3rd Down play before they kicked their last FG (Replay clearly shows the scUM defender not only grab the facemask, but then hold onto the facemask twisting and pulling the WMU players head downfield as he was being tackled)??? The facemask was so blatant that the NBC crew saw it in real time saying - how isn't there a Facemasking Penalty there? They then showed replays confirming how blatant and obvious the "missed call" was. If called, it gives WMU a fresh set of Downs inside the scUM 10 yard line with less than 50 seconds left. Blackledge even said how "lucky" and "fortunate" scUM was that there was no flag on the beyond obvious facemasking because it was game over if called, which it should have been (which Blacklede also stated).

Or, maybe the refs were just so enamored with the summer’s World Cup that they wanted to bring a slice of it to American Football by introducing the magic clock that only the referees can see.

Honestly...I know the MAC seems to be supporting the call which fine whatever I still don't believe that video is legit BUT now it's complaining about other calls throughout the game. Calls are missed in every game the benefit and hurt both teams. When we get away from focusing on replay overturning what appears to be a correct call to complain about common mistakes it looks like bias against Michigan.

Michigan got handed an extra play which should never happen. The rest is all just part of the game. Officials have no chance to be perfect or even close to it with how fast the game. Replay though...

That conversation probably went something like...
scUM: Hey MAC, here is the video we used to show the one second left on the clock.

MAC: That video is BS. Everyone knows that.

scUM: You know we pay most of your schools millions of dollars to lose these games, right? We can stop doing that of that is better for you.

MAC: I see now. There was one second left. Keep the checks coming.

Two points on the Michigan game.

Penn State complaining about officiating isn't all conspiracy.

Too bad this didn't happen against Oklahoma.

There were a few decent games at the G5 level (JMU/Liberty was a good game), but not much from the P4 teams. VMI is a bad FCS team that was given a payday from a fellow VA school in exchange for taking a beating. Penn State played William & Mary and Brown while I was a student, so his stuff is not new, just not that interesting to watch.

I want to make something clear to the dumbass OP…there is no place for a mysterious other clock that is more accurate but invisible to everyone. Such a clock has not come up in hundreds of other games yet suddenly benefits Michigan. Big ten as believable as Baghdad Bob…..

Their qb is getting crushed in this game. If this continues, he’ll have very little chance of not getting injured this season. Also, while the qb is a dynamic athlete, it doesn’t apoear as if he has a great set of weapons.

Don’t worry I’m sure refs will give Notre dame a nice 4th quarter like they did Michigan.
