Interesting to say the least. I know it isn't going to matter here, but I see that the MAC conference issued a statement accepting the explanation for the final play. Here's a thought, don't allow a touchdown on the final play?
Looking ahead, a creampuff Michigan is not good news for PSU. For rankings and possible playoff implications, PSU needs victories over representative teams.
I don't like Michigan, especially because PSU has a history with "time being put on the clock." Also, the Harbaugh/Stalions era is quite distasteful.

Western Michigan celebrated the victory at the true end of the game and had to put aside all that emotion and scramble to get back on the field for another play.
It was really a blatantly poor call that any team not named Michigan would never get.
Ludd succeeded at one thing yesterday, making a complete and utter fool out of himself as usual.

I did not watch. However, whatever the take, the Big Ten sent all the information to the MAC and they accepted the explanation. So it wasn't a blatantly poor call. It turned out to be heartbreaking for WMU.
Again, do you really want to claim one of your big wins is against a Michigan that has 5 losses? If they had lost to WM they then have Oklahoma, Indiana, Oregon, Iowa and Ohio State. I prefer Michigan to win as many games as possible in order to promote PSUs SOS.

What’s funny is that nobody will do anything. Fans will whine online until next week, ESPN will sweep it under the rug, and the crookedness of “amateur athletics” will churn on. This country is 300 million sheep man.

I haven’t really seen much of this, just heard about it. So is the deal that Western Michigan player touched the ball coming from out of bounds with a second left on the clock? If so, does the clock always stop immediately in that situation? Or does the clock stop at the end of the play? And was there a penalty called and enforced on the play? Isn’t that “illegal touching” or something like that?
If the player was OOB and touched the ball without reestablishing himself in the field of play the clock should stop as soon as it touches that player. That said, the replay shows 00 seconds when that occurred--apparently the Big Ten has a different clock synced with the play which...
First of all, it's not illegal touching when the touching is done by a defensive player (only illegal touching if the Offensive player touches the ball after being OB without re-establishing both feet in-bounds - and they're only legally allowed to do that if they're forced OB by the defender. IOW, if the Offensive Elligible Receiver voluntarily goes OB and subsequently touches the ball, even after re-establishing both feet in-bounds, it's Illegal Touching as soon as they touch the ball, but the play would not stop until they're tackled or ball hits ground. Then the penalty is enforced.).
However, defensive players can legally touch the ball from an OB position - play and ball are dead as soon as ball is touched by defender - no different than the play being dead and Offense retaining possession of a live ball fumbe as soon as it is touched by a defender who is in contact with OB. Not a penalty but ball is dead immediately upon a defender touching a live ball from an OB position.
Carr was crying and had just messed himself. On the last play, the refs ignored 2 penalties Michigan committed. A trip, and then a chuck in the back.

The Hail Mary went beyond the end zone. A WMU DB was first to touch it after having jumped from standing out of bounds. The clock stops when he touches the ball. The clock shown during the broadcast clearly hit 0:00 just before the DB touched the ball. The ruling on the field was that the game was over. Officials’ review of the play determined there was still time on the clock, so they cleared the field and allowed the last play. No penalties on the last two plays.
The play before the first Hail Mary was a spike to stop the clock. That play ended at 0:08, but the referee (rightly, IMO) added a second.
I’m no rules expert, but what I gather is that the rules allow for use of a stopwatch on the field, but the league statement says it was the stadium clock that was used in the ruling. The video shared by the league shows 0:01 when the ball was touched. But the clock shown during the broadcast is from a camera pointed at the stadium clock. And the broadcast clearly showed 0:00. It’s hard not to wonder if the league didn’t throw their clock video a half second out of sync with the play video when putting out their statement.
I have said it a thousand times… THEY CHEAT! It’s always been the Big2 Conference and it always will be..
Michigan fan here. I admit we should've lost and Western Michigan deserved the win. But let't not act like Michigan was given a easy field goal to win the game. It was another desperate haily mary last second play and as we all know the odds of scoring a TD is really low around 8% to 10% (about 1 in 10 to 1 in 12 attempts), Blame the WM defenders for failing to prevent the TD pass that sealed their fate.
