I don't see Mitch moving up to a non Olympic weight. He does not look like a big 165 and his gas tank bears that out. IMHO he stays at 165 and then wrestles 74kg for freestyle.
He seemed bored moving up would give him new guys to wrestle and a new challenge. He's just a freak his lung capacity is off the charts. Don't remember where I saw it but they tested his and it's ridiculous and in the 1%
I agree, but 174 is not an Olympic weight so for 2028 he would have to cut back to 162.8 or go up to 189. Neither seems like a good choice. IMHO he stays at 165 although he may be bored. I certainly don't see anyone beating him at 165 any time soon.
I am going to guess the coaches didn't randomly go to him this week and say by the way you're not going to school anymore.
Imagine it was floated as an idea a while back and they left it up to Jayden what he wanted. If he said I want to enroll and challenge for a spot, they'd say "let's do it" (especially with Mitch likely going 174 now)
This week was likely the decision deadline with Fall classes in session and there being late add/drop deadlines.
Our coaches have shown they are the best roster/ego managers in the game, I imagine they knew how to handle this situation.
He just wouldn't cut this year. Most d1 guys lose 6-8 lbs a practice he's not walking around at 165. Most guys walk around 180 or so who wrestle 74kg
It was absolutely decision time when he was overseas. Classes starting yesterday. If he was full time, he's on the clock. Part time, non participant, no clock.

Whether or not he enrolls in classes is 100% his choice. If he doesn't enroll, then he's OK with it.

133 Ono vs Jax (not really sure how this goes but lets give to Jax in a tight one) 3-3
141 Blaze vs Jayden Raney (Raney will come in ready to compete but Marcus just too much) 6-3
149 SVN vs Vega (this was as tight as it gets. Feel like Vegas length gives him the edge) 6-6
157 Kasak vs Robideau (another very close match but feel like Kasaks horsepower is too much) 9-6
165 PJ vs Dee Locket (significant gap and PJ probably bonuses Dee) 13-6
174 Mitch vs Facundo (that is a bonus and maybe a tech./ ill just call it a bonus) 17-6
184 Rocco vs Berge / Norman (probably another bonus if its berge.... I will say Norman) 20-6
197 Barr vs Merrill (i thought Barr could have bonused him at NCAAs but played it safe.. possible bonus but call it 3) 23-6
Hvy Cole/ Connor vs Doucett or DRoss... (i will go with Ross for them and give them the win) 23-9
We I will admitt I gave Kasak a close one (if we reverse this) it is still 20-12
so yes... we would have to have multiple wrestlers falter...
but I gave them some close matches and they could easily falter too.
Bottom line they would need several of our guys to falter to get close
if a couple of their guys falter we win in a blowout and could be chasing a shutout! REALISTICALLY!

Yes, Raney and Robidue winning as well is not insane… Rocco also has too many close matches… like I said, 1/10 times okie state could win if chips fall in their favor..they should not be underestimated.
I see a lot of people giving Raney theoretical wins that, quite frankly, are way above the level of what he's shown so far.
He's a 0x medalist at U17s or U20s in FS. His Greco results are pulling a lot of weight for him.
You're not wrong about this. Ok St has clearly separated themselves from the rest of the pack as the #2 team in college wrestling, and they are dangerous. In any league, though, where the #2 team is 1-9 vs the #1 team still has a very large gap between #1 and the rest of the field.

Okie State has too many defensive wrestlers to challenge
This is insane. Welsh had "too close" matches against McEnelly 2x, Ferrari 2x, and Mantanona 2x. He went 5-1 in those matches, plus beat Mantanona 8-1 in a 3rd match. Berge isn't nearly any of them, and isn't in the same stratosphere as McEnelly.
Berge had a 38% bonus rate last year, so he's not exactly some offensive dynamo capable of exploiting whatever perceived but false weakness of Welsh.
not saying that there will not be some close individual matches but we would have to poop the bed for them to beat us!
I do not recall how Jayden Raney did at U17 or U20 FS World team trials, but I do remember he had some entertaining matches with Jax Forrest in folk. He pinned Jax at Super 32, then lost 18-15 to Jax at WNO, and then lost 10-7 OT to Jax at the Dec 2024 Ironman. Not saying he can beat the top guys at 141, but both the Raney brothers have shown they can hang with elite guys in their age group (Jordyn beat Bo Bassett at least once).
Not sure how much weight results from almost 2 years ago carry. Have a hard time seeing him beat any of the top 3 or 4 guys PSU has at 133/141.
