The boosters must be fatigued at this point.

Put yourself in their shoes. First, you watch Collins come within a conversation of signing last November, a move that everyone predicted was locked in, until it wasn't.

Then you watch Mark Pope miss on 13 straight top 20 recruits. All of them visited Lexington. All of them told UK, "no thanks." But you still had hope that Stokes would come. After all, just like Collins, UK was the perceived favorite for Stokes in the fall of '25. Just like Collins, you tell Mark Pope that you will support him with another round of a significant war chest.

Mark Pope: "We'll need around $6.5 million for Stokes. Can you guys help?"
Boosters: "You got it, coach. We'll go all-in with you again."

And then decision day arrives for Stokes and you find out he'd already given a verbal to Kansas a month before and was just playing Pope the whole time.

But then a period of time passes and there is a Croatian sensation that is demanding around $6 to 7 million.

Pope asks for help again to land Kusturica.

Mark Pope: "We will need around $6.5 million for Kusturica. Can you guys help?"
Boosters: "You say he's a future top 3 pick someday? You've got it. We'll put together another warchest for you."

And then decision day comes and goes for Kusturica and you find out he was locked in to UCLA the entire time.

Rob Wright? The same. UK led until they found out there were getting played to up the maximum offer from BYU.

And then comes Mitchell. Coach Pope comes to you one more time and asks if you can help open the vault once more.

You swoop in and offer another virtually blank check. Pope thanks you with a hug and a promise but two weeks later you wake up on a Monday to discover that Mitchell is back on the Missouri campus with no intention of attending Kentucky.

At what point do you stop investing millions into the Mark Pope project and start restructuring those funds into a potential future buyout?

You have laid things out very well. I would add that he flew all the way to Israel, on April 29, 2026, to scout and meet with 6-foot-8 professional center Márcio Santos.

I don't know why he struggles to put together a top 5 roster. He is intellegent and well spoken, but for some reason he can't connect with top tier tallent. He put together a decent roster for this season, but this is not a final 4 roster. If he could recruit at an elite level, he wouldn't have been in a position to need Mitchel to be eligable to transfer to UK. I hope he kills it this year, but his history doesn't give me a lot of faith.

“Well spoken”?? To whom

He does that smartest guy in the room while talking gibberish.

He acts like he has some secret offense while only running zoom. Then makes dumbass excuses like “left handed offense”. It’s a clown show to high level players and their handlers that are recruited by everyone. So they get to experience real bonafide coached and recruiters. Without a doubt the difference is stark. Pope only gets the guys that he will overpay for that have college as their ceiling. The future pros are going elsewhere for less. They are looking big picture. For the ones Pope gets he is the big picture of cash.

And they are happy to not have to play defense to collect a check and only play hard when they want to. “Touch money on 3!”

There are probably only 2- 5 teams that have spent as much as UK during the last two off-seasons. We definitely don't have a money problem currently. Pope has been extremely fortunate in that regard. It just doesn't make sense why it seems so easy for other teams to get their guy, and it takes a miracle for us. Maybe we have a good season this year(i certainly hope so), but it will take an exceptional year to get me on board for year 4.

It’s because he’s a little strange. He is the proto nerd white guy to most of these kids I’m sure. Money matters, but when others pay too, that matters. Add in his history of no real lotto picks or first round guys outside JQ who didn’t even play. Nor has he had massive success here yet, and it’s easy to see why he misses a ton.

Your bank account is looking a little small there chief. Step up your game son. Truth hurts don't it.

Maybe Pope can help out with those student loans?
It does?

Do I get to steal the 5 mil per year Pope does? Nope! But not exactly wanting for much either. Lulz.

Why do I need help with them?

Lord, you're trying too hard, buddy. It's just falling flat.

You write this as if the boosters lost the money they put up for each recruit who eventually elected to go elsewhere, which isn’t the case.

But yes, I’m sure many are frustrated certain players have not been nailed down despite having ample funding available.

But lots of places have lots of money, so a big check is no guarantee of signing a player.

Are you saying I am crying into piles of cash?wiping my tears with $100 bills?

This really shouldn't be this hard, boss. Lol.
Your internet law degree for University of Phoenix should have granted you the ability to infer that is not you crying into a stack of money chief. Keep up, this really isn't that difficult.

I stated Pope's coaching career is definitively going better than your law career due to salary. You failed to retort. Instead you try to deflect. Typical. Your rebuttal was that Pope is stealing money? Did Pope sneak into Eli's office and break into the safe and scamper out with stacks of hundreds in the middle of the night? I mean, you're the prosecutor. Prove your case. Or, crawl back into your hole. The board would be better for it.

I don't think they have a law school, boss. Lulz. Again, trying way too hard.

Salary doesn't really indicate how your career is going. It just dictates how much you get paid. A lot of people are overpaid and underperforming. Again, make your jokes make sense. They may actually land then.

Yes, he got with a bafoon like Barney, worked out a horrible contract that pays him way too much for very little in return. Then he continues to take it while underperforming.

Let's dissect this complete nonsensical deflection...

Obviously University of Phoenix has no law school, chump. Apparently stuff like that goes directly over your head. But, hey, if your jump shot wasn't broken, you'd have had college paid for, am I right?

You make the marginally false claim that salary doesn't really indicate how your career is going. One could easily counter argue that if you are an intern, or making minimum wage, and have been doing so for multiple years, your career is not going very well, no? One could also easily argue that continual improvement in one's field dictates an increase in salary over time, switching fields, progressing one's career increases one's salary. Did Pope (or multiple other mid major coaches who took on high major jobs down the road) not improve their career opportunities and salary. The only argument against that is if Pope is worth his salary verses the product he is producing currently. I have maintained that Pope isn't the man for the job and is in over his head and this should realistically be his last season to prove he is the right man for this job. I don't think he will. But he is not stealing from the university, or you. The statement is hilarious and factually false, but die on that hill, boss.

If you are going to claim to be intelligent and an attorney and use a word like buffoon, for the love of God, get close to spelling it correctly. Do you pay back any of your salary when you lose a case? Or do you perform everything pro-bono?

I'm not angry with you at all. I think you are pompous, pretend to know it all, make gregarious claims that you can't back up, and try to cover up your ineptness with side-skirting. But you do you. I won't stop you from being miserable.

Not my point at all. I am not about to tell anyone to not be a miserable fan, or even to complain at that matter. I was also not defending Pope. I stated a fact that Pope makes more money than the pretend attorney on our board. I have maintained the same position on Pope since he was hired, he is in over his head, this job is too much for him with his previous resume, and he was not the correct hire. However, in my mind and from watching how things normally unfold, knew that 3 years was always going to be the window for him to prove the doubters wrong and show he can recruit, coach, and win at a high level here barring a scandal of some kind. He's in year three, put up or shut up time, even injuries and decommitments are no longer valid reasons/excuses. If he doesn't, time to move on. However, I'm not going to sit on the board all day everyday and take shots at him, the team, the school, the athletic department, etc and wallow in misery. Some people will. Some people just do it on occasion to get their frustration out and then go back to being constructive and having nuanced conversation. Others, like the tool I was responding to, has done nothing but be miserable, berate and belittle posters all summer. Though I'm not religious, he even attacked a dude for asking for prayers for a personal issue in another thread and doubled down on it. Cool, we get it, you hate Pope and you are a miserable human, the rest of us don't care.

Right, which is why it made no sense. Law degree from a school that doesn't even have a law school. I mean, wouldn't it make more sense to refer to a school that does? Maybe Whittier, Dayton or Syracuse or someplace would make more sense.

Is having a jump shot the only way to get college paid for? High LSAT score or GPA won't do that?

No. Intern could have a great career but below average salary. Lots of people are willing to take less for a better work life balance or culture. Same as some are willing to take more money for a worse environment. Pay doesn't necessarily correlate to career success. So that would be a very easily disproven counter, but you do you! BCG made a lot of money at UK. Was he successful?

It's not false at all. He is taking something he never earned and isn't earning now. That's even by your own admissions regarding his performance. That is the same as theft.

Where did I claim to be intelligent? And if you're having to resort to spelling errors, you've already lost on substance.

I work for the government. So we rarely lose because we don't take things to trial we have much shot of losing. But there is no client to refund. We don't directly represent a person.

You seem pretty angry. You've been trying pretty hard to get a reaction from me. Even going back and laughing at older posts you had previously replied to. That's usually a pretty strong sign. Along with trying to degrade education, work, earnings and so forth. Seems pretty personal for you, dude. Why so?

I'm miserable now? You've sure assigned a lot of descriptions to me.

It's clear I struck a chord and you're now trying to say and do anything to make me feel like I made you feel. It won't work! You're just playing right into what I wanted and letting me know it worked.

Okay I didn't realize I needed to break this down to elementary school level for you, but, it appears that is necessary. You claim to be an attorney. Most of the board doesn't believe that to be true. So when I say your law degree is from a university that doesn't offer a law degree, that correlates proportionately to you being a fraud. Following? No? Do I need to break out the crayons and pop up books?

No having a jump shot is not the ONLY way to get college paid for. But apparently you didn't have a jumps shot, a high LSAT score, or a high GPA (hence the student loan debt you referenced yourself having earlier). Following? No?

Here you go arguing the difference between performance and salary when it should be performance verses worth. Any person with marginal intelligence would understand that you are hired with an initial pay structure based on expectations. You meet or exceed those expectations, you get a raise and/or elevate positions through promotion. Despite (even me) not liking the bar expected by the athletic department year 1, it was in his contract that if he made a Sweet 16, he got a 1 year extension onto the end of his original deal. Did Pope steal money from UK by meeting their agreed upon expectations? Please explain how well your accusation of theft against Mark Pope would hold up in an actual court room and not just the make believe court of opinion in your dense head. Pope not meeting mine (or yours) or anybody else's on this board does not equate theft, stealing, or any other lame claim you wish to throw at him. If he does not meet Batt's expectations this season, he will be fired, regardless of what you or I post on a message board.

Deflecting a grammatical error that was pointed out to make yourself look better, clever. If you are going to insult someone, learn how to spell it. That's advice homie, with plenty of substance.

So a government employee who doesn't take on cases that have to actually be argued and can be lost. Makes much more sense now. So, when you do a marginal job and fall short of expectations, are you stealing from the tax payers?

You appear miserable. If you are happy as a clam, it doesn't come off that way in your posts. Maybe you need a therapist to describe on the doll where Mark Pope touched you, maybe you just enjoy browbeating a program that was in full death spiral (thanks in no part to Mitch) long before Pope ever got called about the job.

That last paragraph is, again, a clever attempt to remove the spotlight from your inability to actually defend yourself. You make claims, then you pivot. Then you try and turn it on the person calling you out. It's hilarious to watch and the only reason I continue replying. You take the bait, hook, line, and sinker, each time I respond. You can't help it. And that's okay. I got nothing but time.
