Once a player uses all eligibility for basketball, why can’t they decide to get another degree and be a tight end or a wide receiver? Why is eligibility sport specific?

College football is far from dead. Really just the opposite.
The one and only line the NCAA has been able to hold on eligibility is the gambling deal with Sorsby because it would only benefit one school.
Everytime one school gets a player eligible through some BS court technicality other schools don't fight it because they want to abuse the loopholes too. It makes your team better at the expense of making the sport worse.

The court that granted Bediako a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO), denied his motion for a Preliminary injunction, so he was no longer allowed to play.
I don't know Louisiana court procedure, and the documents are not available online, but I think something similar could happen here. There is a hearing next Monday on whether the injunction covering Wright will remain in place.
Bediako was granted a TRO in Tuscaloosa, which is based only on his complaint. The NCAA didn't have an opportunity to respond. A couple weeks later the court (with a different judge) held a fully briefed hearing on the matter and denied Bediako's injunction request.
Interesting. Honestly I think at some point in the near future you may start seeing state court judges ruling the SEC intra-conference transfer restrictions illegally infringe on the “student athletes” legal right to choose where they want to play.
Mississippi and Tennessee were part of the lawsuit against the NCAA on its transfer restrictions. But, that case was based on antitrust, and since athletes can freely transfer out of the SEC, I dont think antitrust applies.
But, I could see a judge holding the rule violates state laws against restricting NIL opportunities.
The day a major athlete is prohibited from transferring to an SEC school and heads to the B1G instead, that rule may be revoked.

I have hated NIL and the portal as much as anyone. Everything about this new game puts MSU at a disadvantage, except for being lucky enough to be in the SEC (though we still must compete against the SEC). Especially when we'd finally, after 100 years, figured out how to work the old system to our advantage. So I was as down on the game and especially MSU as I ever have been in my life.
But I still watch and attend the games.
An Ole Miss fan said something on here back around 2008/2009, during the downturn. People were commenting saying that college sports would be affected, and he said college sports was the most recession proof thing there was. And it continues to be true, no matter much disdain people may claim to have for it.
Even the crootin websites seem to be doing better than ever. That part truly surprises me, as that's where my interest has been cut short.
So can we just get rid of stupid comments like this? It's just unneeded bandwidth. College sports is going nowhere.

Every time I read about these cases I cannot help but be disgusted remembering what happened when State had the audacity to seek redress from the courts over the NCAA dropping the hammer on us over Larry Gillard getting a 20% discount for a couple of shirts. We had to forfeit wins from TWO YEARS! I know its been 52 years but we should still demand the NCAA reverse that injustice or sue them to make it happen.
and NIL donations, from corporations. I kind of think too with less fans going into stadiums you have less fans that feel obligated to donate, hence, why I included "from corporations" in my statement.
Does it even matter anymore if anyone attends games? Seems to be mostly about TV contracts at this point. Now if everyone quit watching it would sure get fixed.
It’s only a thing in the SEC because the conference made a big deal about rah rah attendance and school x had 105% attendance while the bottom feeders even had 95%.
The blue bloods in every conference are always going to fill their stadiums. Everyone else, not so much.
There aren’t even 20 programs that average more than 70k. It just so happens that all of them are BIG and SEC except for Clempson and Notre Dame.
It is dead unless you want to continue to call the total CF it has devolved into "college foot" .
