Not sure where Hartwell is on the recruiting pecking order but she looks like she could really “star” with the guidance of Iowa’s coaching staff!
She's the only true post left on the '27 offer list, so she's #1 in the pecking order for her position
I don't think we are recruiting her, haven't heard anything in over a year. I look for her to stay out West.
Updated end-of-summer rankings by ESPN. No 2027 player had a worse rankings summer than Hartwell. Was ranked # 27 in April by ESPN. Went to USA Basketball U17 tryouts. Didn’t make first cut. Fell to # 71 in June ESPN update, the biggest fall of any player in the top 100. Fell to # 95 in August ESPN update, again the biggest fall of any player in the top 100. ESPN rankers don’t have a great track record with post rankings, but Hartwell’s fall is pronounced.
Manyawu also fell 20 spots to 43. Sienna Williams up 13 spots to 51.
edit: Comparing the April and August ESPN rankings, the 2 players with the biggest stock drops were Hartwell (down 68 spots) and Manyawu (down 24 spots).

I saw that too. Getting cut in the USA tryouts is not a good indicator especially for centers. I think her game is similar to Ava Heiden’s so that doesn’t worry me. What was Megan Gustafson’s rank? She had a “pretty good” career and I don’t think she was even invited to try out for the USA team.

Many of the allstar teams and summer leagues are heavily guard centric and then WF. PF and Centers do not touch the ball as much, especially if their perimeter game is lacking. I think Jan has a good idea who and what she's looking for. I still think McKenna can play the 3 if Jan finds a PF that can shoot consistently from outside.
Well Iowa offered her and she has not announced a “short-list” or any official visits from what I can determine, so I think she is still technically “in-play”. I do believe though that she is a “long-shot”, and my guess is Oklahoma (she is from New Mexico). Iowa has a much better chance with Khalia Hartwell but I would be thrilled with either one.

6/28/26 - MI & OK Official Visits Scheduled; Someone stated that in the article she only plans on taking 3 or 4 total official visits.
She took a lot of unofficial visits and I don't recall seeing one to IA. If true, I'd say we have <1% chance at this point.
Even saw on a New Mexico fan board that IA was recruiting her hard back in '23-'24 time frame. Suspect since nothing ever came of Dunn to visit IA, Jan then fired off an offer to Hartwell on 9/30/25.
Jan has a good track record as far as post recruiting evaluations go (Gustafson was ranked # 80 by ESPN), and ESPN has a bad record when it comes to post rankings, in part because it is the hardest position to project. So if Jan wants Hartwell, that is good enough for me. Still, it's pretty clear that opinions are decidedly mixed on Hartwell. South Carolina passed on an in-state player, her other visits (Georgia and Va Tech) are far from elite programs, and the ESPN evaluator(s) that watched her USA Basketball tryouts dropped her 68 spots from April to August. Also, unlike Journey Houston's ratings drop over time, injury does not appear to be a factor in Hartwell's drop. I'm also curious to see where Hartwell lands in Rivals' and 24/7's updated rankings, if and when they get around to updating their rankings.

Wonder if Iowa might jump in here. AAU teammate of Mya Wilson, so Iowa watched her a lot. A better and more athletic prospect than Wilson, IMO.
Some other tidbits I picked up.
- Committed early: 11/21/2024. Meaning several rule changes happened after that which could influence her. Although someone throwing a nicer NIL package could do the same.
- Lived 20 mins from MN campus.
- Has 2 other sisters playing with her on their 4A state champion's team.
- She's a 3-pt specialist.
We need more with higher 3% since we really didn't pick up one in the portal. Dani and Whiting have low 3% against Top 50/25 teams (both sub 30% - Dani's avg Top 50 3% is ~28.4 while Whiting is >15%.). Hopefully being on a better IA team helps these %s. It's something to watch to see if they up these 3%s this season.
Found a short list of prior offers. Michigan would be the closest competition at the top. She seemed excited to play for a top team to make a run the the big dance.

Another poster on the main board pointed out that Iowa may not be interested with Seubert’s commitment. Ramlall and Seubert overlap positionally, whereas Mya Wilson was more of a 3 in terms of position.
I agree, we are in pretty good shape for a few years at guard. Another PF or Center is important. Hartwell visits the September 11th weekend for Iowa. Georgia this coming weekend and VaTech the week after Iowa. We made Manyawu's short list but no word on an official visit. No word on a Sienna Williams visit either
So with all this gloss for the gophs, why the decommit?
$$$ according to Gophers fans. AAU teammate (Mya Wilson) allegedly got substantially more $$$ from OSU, which Ramlall purportedly used to try to get more $$$ from the Gophers. Minnesota said no, and Ramlall decommitted.
I will piggyback off o_AMAYS and say she probably had better offer(s) from one or more unis before approaching MN with bonus pay. Plus, she committed early before the 5 yr rule which means she might sit behind someone for one yr but 2 yrs is too much. That may have added to her asking for more $$$ to sit longer or existing. She wins either way. However, more $$$ and a better path to starting sooner (or more mins sooner) most likely means an exit to accomplish that. Thus, no longer a fit.

Perhaps both teams pulled away the checkbook? I have no issue with not getting into bidding wars with high schoolers when many will be had in 2 years via the transfer portal at a reduced rate.
No shame in going with the B10 school which offered the most and OSU isn’t exactly chopped liver.

I am guessing the OSU coach has a zero tolerance standard going forward... unless he can get at least a conference championship. Good is not enough at OSU and his behavior record speaks for itself.

Khalia Hartwell and Jada Seubert will be Iowa City on official visits this weekend. A lot of excitement around Cy-Hawk weekend. Hope the ladies have abig weekend.
Do recall if these rankings are from some time ago or are they newer updated rankings on Hartwell from 247S?

24/7 and Rivals have not updated their rankings to reflect this summer’s play and USA Basketball tryouts. Very interested to see what they do with Hartwell when they update their rankings given Hartwell’s free fall in the ESPN rankings from # 27 in April to # 95 at the end of the summer.
