I have not followed Abdul or Michigan Senate primary.
I did listen to an interview with him yesterday.
As a rhodes scholar doctor the guy is clearly very smart and articulate.
Observers call him a tremendous political athlete.
He connected with voters.
His policy positions are very progressive:
Medicare for all.
Trust- buster like Teddy Roosevelt.
Tax the wealthy
Out of the war.
Money outta politics.

Do you disagree with these stances?
I can agree with all but the Medicare for all.
Is it the Abdul part that concerns you?

I certainly think it is uphill vs rogers who has high name recognition in Michigan.

I agree with your first two paragraphs, but not necessarily your third paragraph. Rogers has some significant weaknesses of his own. He is a carpetbagger. His home is in Florida, not Michigan. He is in the pocket of Big Pharma and the insurance companies. He is distinctly in favor of the kind of crony capitalism that serves as our current excuse for a federal "government." Most importantly, Rogers is a diehard Trump toadie. Not good at a time that Trump is an anchor around the neck of GOP politicians running in general elections.

No, you do not understand. This isn't semantics...it's a completely different concept. Lithium isn't an addictive drug. People don't become "addicted to lithium" the way they do opioids, alcohol, nicotine, or benzodiazepines. It's a mood stabilizer prescribed for conditions like bipolar disorder, and it often takes days to weeks to reach therapeutic levels. It's taken consistently because stopping it abruptly can cause the underlying illness to return, not because the body is craving the drug.

An overdose, misuse, or lithium toxicity is a serious medical issue, but none of those are the same thing as addiction--not even remotely close. If someone has evidence she was abusing other substances or was medically unfit, then make that case. Calling her "addicted to lithium" is simply medically inaccurate and makes you sound ignorant.

We're far, far, FAR closer to fascism than we are to sharia and they are already bending - if not shattering - constitutional norms. And those numpties comprise a full 25% of the population, if not more. Muslims make up about 3% of the population and the extremists in that group are negligible. Sadly moderates have been conflated with corporate interests even though one can be a moderate and against big corporate special interests (I am).

But in many ways moderates did it to ourselves. We allowed folks with moderate views to stay in office for decades growing more and more dependent on super pac funding. Their greed and desire for the power/trappings of office create this dynamic which is now backfiring on moderate positions. Regardless whether is is correlation or causation, the far left has tightly entwined being moderate with being a corporate stooge.

My big problem is they are solving the wrong problem. The cure for our ills is NOT socialism (or eliminating the senate, eliminating all police, etc). That is not the root cause of the issue. The root cause is human selfishness, greed and power dynamics once reaching office. That does not change under socialist rule, throughout history it has proven to be FAR worse under socialist rule. Instead of thinking the economic system is to blame they should be looking at how to create guardrails on these human failings that come with power.

What we actually need is term limits, better anti-trust laws, new legislation aimed at Citizens United, stronger insider trading laws and the like. Instead we get the DSA platform.

Ok, on the surface I agree if they're just peacefully exercising their 1A rights, I don't have a problem with that. Welcome to free 'Merica.

My brain shift to assimilation, though...for lack of a better word. When someone chooses to immigrate here and become an American citizen, I think there should be an expectation they embrace America as their home...not try to turn America into an extension of the country they left.

Now, that doesn't mean abandoning your religion, traditions, etc. Like those World Cup commercials kept saying, we all benefit from those things. However, I do think citizenship carries w/ it a responsibility to embrace American civic values and culture...assuming those people in the video are US Citizens. So my issue isn't people praying in public. It's whether people ultimately see themselves as Americans first or as members of a separate society living inside America. Make sense?

Footnote: Okay, don't tin foil hat meme me, and maybe this is just the old intel analyst in me, but anytime I see discussions about political Islam or large Islamic political movements in the West, I can't help but think of the Muslim Brotherhood manifesto. I'm not saying this group has anything to do with the Brotherhood...there's zero evidence of that from this video. Just saying it does pop into my head because one of the Brotherhood's stated long-term objectives is establishing society and governance in the West according to its interpretation of Islamic principles (Sharia). Could you frack'n imagine if we allowed that to happen? While the Dems and Reps fight each other with ZERO compromise, they sneak in and we're screwed.

The US is a mixed economy. I am not advocating for becoming a socialist economy, I am advocating for the mix of regulated capitalism to be more regulated. I believe regulation is that we are missing. Free market operates as unregulated capitalism which has become crony capitalism or oligarchy.

We can both say we are capitalists; I just favor regulations that benefit 99% of people over the people that have amassed the most capital and in turn the most influence.

Bernie/AOC could do well nationally right now. Bernie in particular -- AOC if she drops the identity politics crap... and it seems like she's trending towards that.

People are pissed about the economy broadly -- cost of living issues. Economic populism is going to sell well right now. You can sell "more like Denmark" right now.

You can take shots at "capitalism", sure. Play revolutionary and want to blow capitalism up? No, that won't sell.

When you look at something like the democratic socialists of America you get a mixture of both. The more-like-Denmark Bernie crowd, and then the (often younger) revolutionary crowd. They do exist. From what I can tell the guy at the head of it is more of a Bernie sort, not the latter. Yes, "socialist" is a bit chic right now. Republicans probably helped by crying wolf a million times over.

Again, they need to do two things:

A) Crazy identity/Israel politics are not featured.
B) No revolutionaries.
