He's not wrong. Florida has made a lot of really bad coaching decisions dating back to when Meyer "retired."
What a dick. I miss him so much.
It's possible to tell the truth and still come across as an a$$hat. I liked this kind of thing when he was "our yankee" and before he started job shopping every year...
I'm in favor of anything that makes the cheerleader look bad.
I don't blame him at all. They really 17ed up when they fired him and I think they deserve what they've gotten. Couldn't happen to a better AD too. Well except for the Auburn AD who has his own problems.
You know what would really show Florida....Mullen winning again at Mississippi State.
With that being said - I hope Lebby wins 7+ this season so we don't have to look at Mullen. But if we are in for a coaching search...
If he would come back and be our Bobby Bowden, then I'd be fine with it from a coaching perspective. I wonder how good he is/would be at working the NIL/portal aspect

He was job shopping his 2nd year at MSU. Hopefully he is past that portion of his career.
He 17'd up when he took that job. If he had the same record at MSU as what he posted at Florida, we'd have already put up a statue of him.
I said when he was hired that they would run him off if he didn't win the SEC every year. They ran off Meyer for 17's sake.
Hard pressed to find any program, especially a blue blood, who has consistently made worse decisions

Meh, he took his shot. I don't know what program that has the resources to win a national championship will give you that much more rope than Mullen got at UF. They certainly are on the worse end of the spectrum as far as undermining a coach when he is still capable of winning big, but it's not clear he was going to get a better shot soon.
I think most coaches underrate stability and the chance at leaving a legacy by building a program as opposed to chasing a championship at a blue blood, but his decision wasn't obviously stupid to me. Money was already taken care of and he seemed to be losing his fire somewhat, so I get making one more push and if you flame out, you flame out with another $20M in the bank.
The fact that he is back in coaching at UNLV makes it easier to criticize his decision in hindsight. But at the time he may have really thought he only had 4 or 5 more years of coaching in him.
That's not that much different from what Moorhead said after he was fired from State. Coach's can be right or wrong but they all think they are right.
This year is just practice going back to the well. In fairness, I'm all for a Mullen/Arnett combo
I think its telling that he hasn't even been a candidate at a P4 school since getting booted at UF.
He probably deserves a chance somewhere to use NIL money, particularly if the one transfer rule gets passed. His biggest strength was spotting under-rated talent. He could easily buy those type of players, develop them, and then use the new rules to hold on to most of them.
He still wouldn't beat Bama, though.
I'm not sure if he was that good at spotting talent or just developing talent. If it's the former, he'll do really well with the new rules as long as he is somewhere that will pay to keep talent. If it's the latter, I'm not sure how many players would transfer rather than deal with his coaching style. I don't think there's anyway Josh Robinson sticks around if he has the opportunity to transfer (although he probably would have transferred regardless of where he was). How many players that were good as juniors and grew to appreciate Mullen would have transferred after their freshman year if they could have done so without penalty?

Agreed. The odds are pretty good that he will be at a major school next fall.
He's getting to the age where he might......MIGHT.....be willing to state at one place and try and build a legacy. Never say never but those upper-50s guys tend to be less likely to jump ship. That 55-70 window is where you want them. Got plenty of experience at that point too. That should be our target demographic.
Problem with Mullen is he's already been here and I'm pretty sure he doesn't view us as a destination. Maybe he's changed.
More to the point, it's less about how good you are at it, and more about your plan to accomplish it. He created his recruiting footprint and strategy, and went out and executed it. Mullen was genius at that. I have no doubt he'd do the same thing in he NIL/portal world.
I believe that's why he was such a good gameplanner too. He already had his framework as to how he approached the game. I don't always think his specific playcalling was great, but the overall theme was very good, every game. To beat him you generally had to out-athlete him. This phenomena often showed up in the last 2 minutes of halves when athletes are running on emotion, and decisions can often seem to cost you more.

He's a good coach. I would still doubt his commitment if he returned.
They've screwed it up for sure. "blue blood" had me tentative at including Auburn but they are closer than the pigs to being one
That's my bad, I missed the 'blue blood' part. I just always enjoy the pigs being just as - if not more - incompetent as we are at hiring, with seemingly more money at their disposal.
And have quite often since he left. But….. hurt feelings and all!
NOT edited to ADD: we could have done a lot worse than Rick Stansbury and have quite often since he was run off.
