We won’t like this, but we need to copy this immediately.

Dude. Are you trying to kill off some of our fanbase? The same ones that had issues with the necklines and sleeves being a different color, names on the back, a subtle Nike swoosh on the jerseys, or a bowl patch added for one game, will have a stroke if we have a corporate logo on the jerseys. In case you haven’t noticed, we aren’t a fanbase that adapts to anything new very well (or at all),

This is where all this is heading. If PSU wants to compete at the highest level, they too will have to find a similar corporate sponsorship and add a patch. Don't like it but the dye is cast. Better than falling in to a PE deal that BIG Commisioner and some teams want that gives up control.

Unfortunately this is what we must do. The rich get richer. OSU was already vastly outspending us. Imagine what they will do with an additional $17m. I hope Kraft is looking at opportunities like this. Not only do we need to keep up with player compensation but we also need to pay for the stadium renovation.

Any chance we could get My O My patches on the jerseys?

I'm sure that it will happen, and probably soon. I don't know when college teams were permitted to put advertising on their uniforms, but PSU probably should've done this as soon as it became permissible, as almost every MLB and NHL team does this; the Pirates have Sheetz patches on their jerseys and the Penguins have PPG on their helmets. PSU should have no problem finding a company that would be willing to pay a lot to put their logo on jerseys.

Good luck convincing the same curmudgeons that have an issue with PSU wearing white cleats (gasp) for one game a year, that putting a corporate patch on the jerseys is a good idea.

The people who call the shots aren't going to care about the people who want things to be like they were fifty years ago because money talks; if a school like OSU is doing it, then certainly a school like PSU should do it. If you have blue blood MLB teams like the Yankees and Dodgers wearing advertising patches, then certainly a school like PSU that has to support 31 teams and maintain numerous facilities, should have no reservations about doing this.

I’m with you. We are on the same page. However, we both know that a large portion of our fanbase digs their heels in the sand and makes a lot of noise about any change.

I agree with you. In the end, PSU needs to respect its fans, but make decisions that are going to keep this athletic program, which I have called bloated, financially viable, which is going to become continually problematic without new sources of revenue.

I wonder if there is a reverse effect to advertising, an opponent fan saying I'm done with that product.

When PSU lost sponsors after the sanctions, they lost me, as a customer.
Don’t like it, but reality is it is not worth caring anymore. College sports , the school, the uniform does not stand for anything other than money anymore.

Would Ohio State pay us to put a buckeye on the uniform? Go for it.

Exactly, has to be a large corporation or bank with substantial money like Chase.

Well, you're correct, there will be those who are absolute traditionalists, but in reality, "college" football is now way beyond what we all appreciated about "success with honor". Competing for NC's is not happening without large corporate $ assistance. Sad, but true. We as fans have to face reality

"College" football fan(atics) are doing nothing more than rooting for (and paying money to) a "color". That's it. That is all that is left.
The color of the uniform is the only differentiator.

So what difference does it make if the "color" is also pock marked by a bunch of patches?

Unless one of them is willing to pony up $17,000,001.00, too bad.

I hope Krafty has something good in the works! The OSU deal is for jersey patches on all OSU teams' jerseys.

AccuWeather--and that's somewhat serious.
Understandable why that would occur to you - but what is Accuweather's target market?
Who within that target market would even be reached - let alone "impressed" - by a jersey patch?

This is a good way to think of it, IMO:
Who buys traditional advertising for college football broadcasts?
Retail chains, yes. Banks - Apparel - Automobiles - Booze yes, yes, yes, yes. And, maybe #1 - or at least top 10 with a bullet - GAMBLING. All those things you see if you watch a game live with commercials.
Accuweather? No The true business value to Accuweather would be minimal - and unless they are just looking at is as money to burn, they wouldn't be a competitor there.

1) Which raises a couple other interesting points: Which program is going to go all in and sell rights to "Gambling" and "Booze"? Those would likely be among the biggest potential buyers. But the potential blowback - let alone the abject hypocrisy if it is "Gambling" - could be significant.
2) What hiccups do you face with the apparel companies (the Nikes, Adidas, etc). If they are paying to have their logo on the gear - it is worth more to them if it is exclusive - and uncluttered by multiple ads. How do you work that out?

It would be interesting to see the details of OSU's deal - which, AS ANNOUNCED, came in well above the figures those in the industry were expecting. It may very well NOT be as lucrative as the announcement led folks to believe - but maybe it is. In any event, it would be nice to see the real deal - Hopefully I will be able to see that soon.

I hope it never becomes that drastic.
Money rules the world....I wouldn't be surprised by it if they could get away with it in time. I hope not, but would it really be a surprise a decade from now? College football brought to you by Brawndo....we're pretty much there.
