You're ignoring one crucial detail that you can't get around - he's not maga. Bloviate all you want, but he'd be running against someone stained with a malodorous, orange stench. No matter how much you yelp about "hE wEnT tO tHe fReNcH lAuNdRy", he's still superior to cucks who simped for the worst president of all time. You can try to run from that fact but you can't hide.
This guy is going to have an aneury*sm by the end of all this.

If Newsom has an "aneurysm" he'd still win so....
Especially if you are the kind of guy who likes markets where the methodology explicitly says it favors long shots....

Run Newsom, we will end up with Vance.

wouldn't this mean that 45 states are losing population faster than CA?

how many states do you think there are?
It means that since 2020 45 states have gained more citizens than CA, on a per capita basis.

CA is arguably our most beautiful state with the best climate. Yet seemingly no one wants to move there.

You sure about that? I don't want to run Newsom but if we did....

Yes, I am quite comfortable knowing the group of people that got kicked off their website because nobody agreed with them, who then found an Iowa website and picked up a handful of eastern Iowa loonies before getting kicked off that website for their antics and have since found a 6 pack of people to agree with here are not representative of the actual population.

Ive watched this exact same group of people through several elections.

The vocal left hates Newsom, the right hates Newsom, but the rust belt/average americans will absolute vote for him as you can see in this poll.

I think Ossoff is a better candidate and would have a better chance to win, but it remains to be seen if he can be catapulted to a household name over the next 2 years or not.

Newsom is probably the most 'electable' Democrat unless that happens

Keep in mind, at this point in the 2020 election cycle, maga still thought Mike Pence was next...

there's a lot of time - and responsibility to be avoided - yet to come. I don't know why anyone would think both Marco and JD are going to be in trumps good graces in another 2 years.

Vance has the charisma of a dead lizard. He’s not mobilizing the MAGA base.
I don’t know. It’s like American Idol, he has a story and people love a good story.

And while I know you hate him, he is a good communicator and is well spoken.

I prefer Rubio but I disagree with your assessment.

It was semi-tongue in cheek but it's not that far off from national polling either. Newsom may not be perfect but Vance has had consistently bad polling and magas are currently turning on him pretty hard after a couple interviews where they don't think he's been supportive enough of Trump.

If the dems think a california dem is going to win the hearts and minds of Joe average and turn Iowa, Ohio, or PA blue I wish them the best of luck.

Are you kidding me? Pennsylvania would absolutely be in play for Newsom though I agree Ohio and Iowa would be hard to flip, but with 6 electoral votes, Iowa wouldn't be a kingmaker anyway.

Fetterman alone would make PA out of reach for Newsom.

I dont think you have thought this through.

As between the two sets of two, it'd probably be newsome and rubio as of today.

That said, when faced with "less than optimal" choices, I will (eventually) try to recall some sage advice. Make choices based on what you are for, and not what you are against. If you literally can't (though that's a high bar), don't.
You had me until the last sentence.

I'd prefer it as:
If you literally can't, choose the one that will do the least harm.

What would Fetterman have to do with it? He's probably the most unpopular Dem in the party and will likely lose his re-election bid, so why would his opinion matter unless you're saying he would be more likely to endorse the Republican candidate over Newsom. As much as he's drifted right, I still don't believe he'd do that.

Think his approval rating is underwater so not sure I agree on how much that would hurt him. But I'm not going to pretend to be a PA expert either.

PA doesnt give a **** what the party wants. They see Fetterman as one of their own. He is Joe Average "normal" PA.

It's not like he's killing it in-state and without Dem party backing, I'm not sure he'd be a shoo-in to get re-elected but PA is so thoroughly purple, it's hard to say. He's underwater with Dems and Independents and he claims he's not switching parties so do you really believe PA Republicans would carry him over the line over their own candidate?

Senator John Fetterman holds a 48% overall job approval rating among registered voters in Pennsylvania, but his base of support has flipped dramatically. He is currently far more popular with Republicans than with members of his own party due to his centrist stances and independent voting record. [1, 2, 3]

Voter Approval Breakdown
    • Overall Approval: 48% of registered voters approve of his job performance, while 41% disapprove, according to a Quinnipiac University Poll.
    • Republican Support: 77% of Pennsylvania Republicans approve of Fetterman.
    • Democratic Support: Only 19% of Democrats approve, while 69% disapprove of his performance.
    • Independents: 48% disapprove and 44% approve. [1, 2]

Party Realignment and Future Speculation
    • Leaving the Party: 52% of Pennsylvania voters stated they would like to see Fetterman leave the Democratic Party, while 31% want him to stay. [1]
    • Local Standing: Fetterman faces particularly low favorability in strong Democratic strongholds like Philadelphia, where only 24% view him favorably. [1]

It is also the state where nature tries the hardest to kill you.

Massive wildfires encroaching on metropolitan areas may have something to do with it. The timings line up.

Could be true, not going to pretend to know. Have often found some on both sides have this fanfic type reading of situations that fits their worldview and makes them feel better moving forward. But no idea if this is true or not, so could be.

I think you're misreading the electorate at the moment so if PA put up someone like Connor Lamb, for example, I'm pretty sure he'd win the primary and the general as things stand today. You're looking at things through orange colored glasses, a shade that's way out of vogue as we currently speak.

Probably Newsom. He is willing to move to the center.

not sure Vance will emerge from primaries. Going to be tight rope act moving away from Trumps crap. Possible a true Republican outsider steals the show.

IMO any Republican that wants to be President should sit out of the 2028 race. It’s going to be a massacre.

The thing Republicans need to worry about is a MAGA/Mainstream divide in 2028.
You are already seeing it with congressional primaries. The vote this fall will be very telling.

If the Republican party divides then they have no chance in 28. Marco might get the Mainstream support and Vance the MAGA, but I can foresee lower turnout from one side of that divide or the other depending on who gets the nod.

He doesnt need to. He needs to run as "a normal adult" and the dems will eat themselves from the inside arguing over if the candidate is left enough.
The problem is, the MAGA base is pretty much the backbone of GOP right now, and they only show up to vote for Trump. Will Vance be able to tap into that group that has historically avoided voting until 2016? I don't see it, but we'll see. Hell, if that ~31% MAGA base even drops by 5% at the polls then the GOP is going to be hurting in '28.

*** I am not a Pennsylvanian so I am speculating also.

I think everyone is viewed as a lesser of evils at this point and Dems are going to have to weigh supporting a guy they dont really like, which will inevitably get the democrats of PA to vote for him, or paying to prop another person the dems may or may not like. While I dont think "Republicans will get fetterman elected" the dems have to account for some cross platform votes for him whereas the new person will get very little.

2 cents.

I just think you are underestimating PA Democrats, or more so overestimating Fetterman's popularity. But like I said, I haven't really looked into it.

But I don't think there would be a lack of Democrat candidates that pulled themselves up by their bootstraps in PA.

Are PA republicans going to vote for Fetterman (D) vs whatever R he’s put up against? Of course not, so it’s a moot point
