No surprises in starting lineup. Suck it haters. Balogun is starting.
Of course he plays. He can’t not play now from the US perspective. There will almost certainly will be a court case in Switzerland over it if we win. There may be one even if we lose.

So a court case where FIFA will say 'suck it' after the ruling? An independent court has no jurisdiction over anyone.

What’s a court in Switzerland going to do after the fact? Never mind that FIFA clearly has the authority to do this.

Actually it does when it comes to FIFA. Part of the game you sign up for if you play I think. It’s a court of arbitration. There have been some major cases it has decided over the years.

Can the Court of Arbitration for Sport Overturn FIFA Decisions?

Yes — the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) can overturn certain FIFA decisions, but only under specific conditions and within defined legal frameworks.

CAS’s Role in FIFA Disputes

Under Article 57 of the FIFA Statutes, FIFA recognizes CAS as the independent body to resolve disputes between FIFA, its member associations, confederations, leagues, clubs, players, officials, and licensed agents inside.fifa.com. This includes appeals against:
  • Final decisions of FIFA’s own legal bodies
  • Decisions made by confederations, member associations, or leagues
Appeals must be lodged with CAS within 21 days of receiving the decision inside.fifa.com.

How Overturning Works

CAS uses its Appeals Procedure to review these decisions. This is not a retrial of the facts but a legal review to determine if the decision was correct under applicable law — which can include FIFA’s statutes, regulations, and relevant national or international law Charles Russell Speechlys. If CAS finds an error, it can set aside the decision and order a new one.

Limitations

  • Not all FIFA decisions are appealable. For example, certain match-day referee decisions (like red cards) are final and cannot be appealed to CAS Sporting News.
  • CAS’s jurisdiction is limited to disputes between parties and FIFA’s own legal bodies; it does not review FIFA’s match officials or on-the-field decisions.
  • The Appeals Procedure is the main route for overturning FIFA rulings, but it is not the only possible route.

Broader Legal Challenges

In addition to CAS, national courts can review CAS awards if they involve EU law. In 2025, the European Court of Justice ruled that EU national courts must be able to conduct an in‑depth review of CAS awards to ensure they comply with EU public policy News18+1. This means that in some cases, a decision from CAS could be challenged in a national court outside Switzerland, potentially leading to overturning.

Key Takeaway

CAS can overturn FIFA decisions when those decisions are final and appealable under FIFA statutes. The process is legal review, not re‑hearing. However, in certain cases — especially where EU law is involved — national courts can also challenge and potentially overturn CAS rulings, adding another layer of possible reversal.

So what’s going to happen if the Swiss court does overturn the decision a few weeks or months from now? Maybe Balogun misses a meaningless nations league game? Who cares?

There is an expedited process where they rule within 48 hours. Belgium is supposedly going to ask for that. I doubt it happens but it is a possibility.

Suspending our player for something that wasn’t his fault was crazy.

There’s not much that I like about our president but seeing how a huge segment of the population is reacting to this makes me hope Balogun scores 9 goals tonight and does the Trump dance after every one of them.

In fact… as I think about it.. this is sort of how Trump got elected. Just told people you don’t have to take the bulls hit and I’ll fix it for you

I really don’t get the lack of aggressiveness from our defenders. That goal should have never happened if somebody aggressively goes after Freeman’s header and clears it.

After that start by Belgium for us to down only 1 is something of a win. Still a lot of time. Sometimes surviving an opening blitz like that can bode well
