Fried Ham and homemade macaroni & cheese with green beans & butter beans from my grandparents' garden. My has always felt guilty because she didn't make homemade biscuits everyday like my grandmother did. We managed to survive on canned biscuits & store bought dinner rolls.
My mom is about to turn 80 and has been an incredible cook for my entire 60 years on this earth

ETA - food might be my favorite discussion topic...I probably like it more than sports, especially if the sports topic is Jeff Lebby's recruiting prowess. Come to think of it, I bet Lebby likes talking about food more than recruiting too. Anyway, a close second is manicotti with an Italian salad (identical recipe to the salad at Doe's) with homemade yeast rolls.

Fried chicken, purple hull peas, butterbeans, fried okra, fried squash, mashed potatoes, green beans, cornbread. Mixed and matched, not necessarily everything at the same time but variety was never lacking on Sundays. I'd say purple hull peas and fried okra were always part of the rotation if the okra crop was good that year. I hated harvesting that garden and shelling peas and beans plus snapping green beans but damn the meals were good growing up.

I try to cheat, and my daughter detects the cheat and wont touch them.

Best fried okra I've ever had. She tried to teach me how to make it and it didn't take. Thankfully my dad hated fried okra so after mama got her portion, I just took the rest.

My mama made a lot of standard meals I remember fondly.
The one that stands out for some reason is oven baked pork chops she slathered in an old style bbq sauce with hand cut French fries and simple heavily buttered toast. If we had garden tomatoes or green beans that went with it. I loved it.

Carne Guisada… we were the only kids I knew in Mississippi who had authentic food like that growing up. We were lucky.
Mom was a great cook but we always looked forward to Thanksgiving. Her dressing and green bean casserole was loved by everyone.
The one thing my mom cooked that I loved was her Turkey a la King. She was a fair cook, just didn't do it that much. I did most of the cooking because Mom and Dad worked. My mom gave my wife the recipe and she makes it for me on special occasions. It is harder to make now because the turkey was that frozen turkey loaf in gravy with white and dark meat. Doesn't seem to be available much anymore.
Now my italian grandma could cook an old shoe and it would be unbelievable. For holiday meals she sometimes made Braciole (rolled up flank steak in sauce) and that could cause fights.

My mom wasn’t that great a cook when I was younger. She overcooked most everything mostly because she preferred her steaks to be well done
She got better after I graduated from college, but she still loathes medium rare steaks.

For a quick weeknight, sure.
Beyond that, no. There is a massive difference between those and doing them right.
My mother could kill some fried chicken and mashed potatoes with gravy. The rare times she made that mess, which was usually my bday, she would fry chicken livers too. Hers were the best, Starks in Hazlehurst is a close second

Fried chicken using Lawry's seasoning salt, purple hull peas, sliced tomatoes, rice baked with canned onion and consomme soup, and yellow rice. She used to make a bundt cake with plum baby food that I haven't had for decades but can still taste today

I know the turkey loaf you’re referring to and I’ve found a better substitute. Butterball makes a turkey roast. It’s frozen and at a glance it just looks like a frozen turkey breast and is often mixed in with the breast. It usually all white meat but I’ve found the mixed before. It’s the only turkey my family wants. I generally always smoke it on the grill but sometimes cook one in the crock pot. It comes with a packet of gravy mix. Walmart has them as well as most larger grocery stores. Just make sure it says Roast on the package.

Best chicken livers in this state are at the Texaco on Hwy 45 in Aberdeen Ms. I’m not sure they’ve changed the grease since the Clinton administration. Half ketchup half Texas Pete for the dipping sauce.

Squirrel dumplings, fried quail , Country fried (tenderized) deer steak, Frog legs , Duck casserole .........we hunted and fished quite a bit LOL
