We've had more rain than we need by far over the last week here in NKy. But nothing like what I'm seeing further south. Best to all affected by the storms & flooding.

Morning D-Leaguers!

Hot and humid today with a high in the mid 90's.

Coed softball result: We did the same thing as last year. Won the regular season only to flame out in the tournament. Finished 15-1 for the season. We did make it to the semifinals but played uninspired as if we were tired. I was actually tired and played bad. Worst I have played all year. Not the only one though, it seemed contagious. Oh well, I still have the summer league in Chickasha.

Hey, it's a short week for the workers bees out there so, be safe, and God Bless.

Good morning folks. Overcast and muggy in the east.

I had an uneasy evening and night after seeing a news Bulletin that three US Department of Interior firefighters had been killed out along the Colorado-Utah border. I knew my son was out on a crew fighting those fires, and all my efforts to reach him by call or text failed. I finally fell asleep and when I woke up I had a text from him at 4:41 east coast time -- 2:41 his time -- saying he was just back from fighting fires all day and that "it was probably the most exciting day of my life." I don't think he even knew at that time that guys had been lost. Those fires stretch for hundreds of miles so I have no idea if he was close to where the deaths happened. I hope to talk with his later today, after he gets some sleep.

Back to my desk job. I hope it is a good day for all of you.

Had a little excitement this morning while walking the monster. A man and woman pulled up in a truck looking for a man dressed all in black wearing a black hoodie. They said he had stolen their car, drove it into a pond (pond at west end of our housing division), and was now on foot. Police were in the area looking for him. I called my wife to let her know not to answer the door unless it was the police. Ran into a cop from another county shortly after and he said there were 4 counties of cops here and some State Troopers.

As I continued to walk they (the police) were still showing up looking in back yards, culverts, and any possible hiding places. I ask one if the guy was armed and he said that there was no evidence but for me to be careful. I said if he isn't armed, I will be fine. He looked and Anatolia and said "I can see that. that's a big dog."

Certainly not an expert, but they sometimes forage for food in the daytime, especially if they are nursing. Quite a few years ago, we had one get in the fenced backyard. It saw the dogs and ran. It got almost to the top of the fence and Maddie (80 pound extremely strong boxer) jumped up and grabbed it by the neck. Broke it's neck right away.. I'd have stopped her as I'd of preferred she didn't fight the racoon, but it was over before I even knew what was happening.

Fyi, my sister volunteers at an animal rescue in the Nashville area. She told me that on heat days like today, they are only allowed to keep the dogs out on walks for ten minutes.

She is an RN and worries about my health. I got to hot last year and passed out.
I walk the monster when it first starts to get light. Sun not up but we can see and it is cool enough to get a decent walk in. I let her determine how far she wants to go because with the amount of fur she has as it gets hot quick. Yesterday we went a little further than normal for the heat/humidity, but she was good to continue as the excitement of seeing so many people out kept her wanting to investigate things. During colder months she goes a lot further.

With their short faces, boxers don't do as well in the heat as some dOgs. Maddie used to love long walks. Auggie doesn't want to get far from the house, so I don't even bother walking him. We have no close neighbors, so I just open the door and let him out. Five minutes later, he wants in. He will just find a comfortable spot and lay there while he is out.

Couple of folks struggling with internet problems and been finishing up my neighbor's stepdaughter's apt. Wore me out. He has been hurting and can't do the hard stuff, so I am/was doing a lot of it. Finished Yesterday with the drywall portion so now his wife and stepdaughter are going to paint it. I am done.

Now, did my shopping today, house cleaning, and monster walk.Tomorrow, exercise, monster walk, and grass cutting along with 2 co-ed softball games in Chickasha OK in the evening. Past 2 weeks have been fast and furious. Forgot how it felt to be so busy. I don't like it. Been retired for over 5 years now and have gotten old in my lazy age. No wait... scratch that... Lazy in my old age.

Muttah, Fattah kindly disregard this lettah.
How is the weather at Camp Grenada? Did it stop raining?

The deceased firefighters have been identified as:

  • Emily Barker, 38, of Clinton Township, Michigan, assigned to the U.S. Forest Service Rifle Helitack.
  • Nick Hutcherson, 27 of Glendale, Arizona, assigned to the U.S. Forest Service Kaibab National Forest.
  • Sydney Watson, 27, of Warrior, Alabama, assigned to the U.S. Wildland Fire Service Rifle Helitack.
Sad.

Hello All,

Been busy this morning but helping My Darlings friend who lives in a Condo in our neighborhood. Got her lapsed Condo-owners insurance in place again at a much better price. So I am happy... The lady is Korean and older than us. Her husband of 45 years (Retired Army) died a year or two ago. She has a daughter but she is out of state.

I am thankful! I too have "another medical appointment later today at Fort Belvior (They called me with an opening earlier this morning.), then tomorrow at the DC VA at 3pm though which is about as bad a time as you want to be in DC... (About 2:30 to 8PM. Afternoon-wise driving...)

I hope you all enjoy this day and go out of your way to help a neighbor. It is a good thing...

Howdy folks. Thanks for sharing that information Beatle. I hadn’t seen that.

My son remains out on the line, sleeping in tents and eating MREs, then back to work. He says whoever is running the effort to contain the fire has decided to stand up a new attack team on Thursday and he’s been picked for it. Makes me proud but nervous.

Warm day in the east. Busy work from home day for me. You all stay cool.

Glad your son is ok. No MRE, but had my share of C rations and slept in a few tents. Did I mention I hate camping out?

Good morning folks. Sunny and warm in the east. A beautiful day.

Got a text from my son that came in overnight. He was going to get a break today, then they told him to expect to sleep on the ground the next two weeks, and they'd supply them with water and MREs while they make a major push t control this Ferris Fire on the Colorado-Utah border. He texted a few photos that make it clear he's closer than I want him to be, but he his right where he volunteered to be, so I'm happy for him to have this purpose in his life.

Working from home all this week. I don't know if you folks are following the World Cup. THe guys in my office roped me in, and now I'm into it. Playing Bosnia tonight. Go USA.

Here's a couple shots of me from my last visit to Bosnia, spring of 1993. On a hill outside a town called Gornji Vakuf that was for a while the front lines, and then in Sarajevo, with a buddy and our driver. (His name was Darik, and he had a hole behind his ear where he'd been hit by a spent sniper round while hauling around other journos down Sniper Alley, where our hotel was located. My buddy thought that was amusing when he hired him. I'd have preferred someone who was less of a bullet magnet...) You can see the stadium and some buildings behind us heavily damaged from the constant artillery barrages. Crazy times.

Hello All,

At the DC VA until after 3 today with appointments I had hoped to fill between my 3pm appointment with the neurosurgeon from Walter Reed that squeezed me in today. Got ALL my July 22nd appointments scheduled for today. I am so very thankful not to have to make that trip later this month. Traffic is bad….

Enjoy your days… I hope they are void of medical appointments… 🤪

I'm shot. Just 45 minutes of self-propelled mowing with high humidity has done this old man in for the day.

Md, I'm all-in on World Cup. Have enjoyed soccer even as a kid with just kicking ball around in empty lot in neighborhood. Really got into EPL staring 30 years ago.

Good afternoon from ATX. Hot and muggy. Walked quite a bit earlier this AM.

Shoes: I formerly swore by New Balance. Adidas produces a shoe I can actually walk well in -- RunFalcon6. Because I'm afflicted by neoropathy. these shoes are, for me, amazing. Nearly back to 100% without compression socks. Again, amazing.

Y'all behave.

With a bad leg, I usually look for cushioning in a shoe and usually choose a running shoe as they usually have the best cushioning. I normally do an internet search and choose from 3 or 4.

I was bouncing back between that game and the Reds vs Brewers last night. At least the UNMNT won. Can't say the same about the Reds. But what else is new.

Good morning folks. Hot and humid in the east. Last work day for this week.

Glad to see the USA advance in the World Cup, but yesterday's games proved again to me why after decades of trying (I used to go to Ft. Lauderdale Stryker games all the back in the 1970s) I can't really care about soccer. And that is that the referee decisions, which impact every game, are so much more determining in Soccer. The Belguim-Senegal game was a terrific, exciting game. Then after 115 minutes, it is decided after a 25-minute review of whether or not a defender touched an attacker. Maybe it was the right call, but it effectively ended the game. Same with the red card that keeps the USA's best player out of the next game. There were probably 50 incidences of one player unintentionally connecting with another player's leg in that game. But one is singled out, reviewed in slow motion, and the result is devastating.

In a game where the entire point is to control the ball with your feet, and try to use your feet to take the ball away, having such gigantic consequences attached to unintentionally catching the other player's foot kills my interest.

Hope you all can stay cool.
