I find it interesting that Pat Mineo hasn't mentioned a word of this on his Facebook site. He has been defending A.J. through everything.

That's probably because Mineo is a **** bag.

GIF by Ben L

I am similar to you in that regard. I was more than willing to take on a NCAA Champ and brother of a teammate with baggage, as long as he could stay clean. He managed to AA twice for 2 different teams before his latest mess.

Sadly, he is too much of a meathead to realize how much all his decisions have cost him. Hopefully Angelo doesn’t get caught up in any of the family drama and can separate himself as much as possible going forward…

I mean in your defense, it did take him a whole 90 days to get into trouble again.

Anyone else find it interesting his issue in Texas was kept under wraps by Nebraska until he was nabbed for speeding 3 months later? Quite the short leash they had him on.

Guilty. I wanted him on the team until this latest incident.

Or maybe not guilty, since I don't want him on next year's squad and didn't disappear like a roach.

But I recognized myself in your description.
Seriously? That kinda surprises me.

I was never in charge of disciplining him, nor was he courting my daughter. Judging him was never my job, nor was it relevant to wanting Iowa to score more points as a simple fan. He was/is a VERY good wrestler who could help a team I was/am a fan of win. Shame on me for hoping for the best possible scenario to have a NCAA Champ on the team(also the brother of another really good wrestler already on the team), something YOU have been very vocal against Iowa for not producing enough of........Also, who knows if he would have continued to do dumb sh*t at Iowa? We will never know, but it IS possible Iowa COULD have been the best environment to keep him out of trouble....

Respectfully disagree. In my experience, there's no keeping individuals like Ferrari out of trouble. No matter how much you try, they always seem to find it eventually. It's just the way they are.

In his case, you may be right. However, I have witnessed first hand, people with much worse records, find themselves in the right environment and “see the light”….It most certainly CAN happen.

Yes it can. I was just speaking from my own experience and observations.

Of course it CAN happen. But in the case of AJ clearly the odds were stacked significantly against it. That won't change until he's held accountable and even then it's a long shot.
By the way, you're using, too many, commas. ;)

Nah. Shame on you for thinking a leopard could change his spots. And for putting winning above all else.

But even if this LAST charge was trumped up… I don’t want him in IC after showing his a$$ this last number of years and for the charges he’s already caught around the country.
Not a chance! I was referring to his potential to be picked up by another team. I don’t want him anywhere near our guy!!

Put a fork in this mess and let it go.

Let’s cheer Angelo on. He knows what his brother has done, nonetheless, it’s still his brother. If you don’t have anything good to say don’t say it.

My expectations are low, however it needed to be said.

Ok Thumper.

Past actions are generally the best predictor of future performance. And yes, I was one of those that at one time thought it might be a decent idea to give him a shot.

Both outcomes can be true - but I would most generally bet that past actions are eventually duplicated.

Yeah, your hypothetical may be right. He was doing so well in his first go-round at Iowa. Probably would have seen the light.

He’s not a kid anymore. 25 or 26 came from someone who never told him no. He needs to spend some time in jail so he doesn’t kill anyone. He may be a good wrestler but there is more to life.

You have to comment on everything. In 2020 he was a wife beater, so there's that turn around. Zip it. move on. it was a laugh.
First of all - not sure what you are referring to that I "have to comment on everything" but either way - go F@#K yourself you thin skinned puss. I'm hardly a regular rebuttaler and it was hardly a harsh knock at your comment. He was charged in 2020 with two misdemeanors for domestic battery so let's not quite put him in the same category as others who actually beat up their spouse. It was simply a statement that some people can turn their life around a bit. Good lord relax and certainly don't ever get pissy with a coach who might not like a question and gives a snarky response. But I get it - you're sensitive. Move along yourself.

P.S. Don't confuse engaging with certain posters on a singular issue as commenting on everything. So I'll give you a pass on your reading comprehension. And sorry if those comments offended your delicate sensibilities.

It's getting pretty old listening to some on here tearing down another wrestler who has no bearing on our team, but what it does is hurts his brother who IS on our great team. We need to do better and support "our" athletes instead of driving them away.

AJ did it to himself. If Hawkeye brother Angelo hasn't separated his feelings for team and fans from our feelings about his miscreant brother, then he needs to.

What's getting old are all the apologists trying to resuscitate AJ's Hawkeye career every time he messes up, just because they want few extra team points at Nationals. Do any of you really care about AJ? If AJ sucked at wrestling, then none of you would give two sh*ts. He doesn't: he's a great wrestler. This is about winning at all costs.

Drive them away…. Seriously? No wrestler leaves Iowa due to the gratest wrestling fans in the country. Dare I say world?

As long as there fans posting about wanting AJ back, there will be fans posting details of why they don’t want him back.

Where are all these apologists wanting him on the team? What a stupid post.

Yes, yes it is. Winning is good.
