He’s just trying to play to the crowd, so I’m not going to take it personally like I’m sure some will. It does make him look kind of stupid though. Is it really that difficult or embarrassing to say something like “My wife and I have deep roots in Utah, and we’re happy to be home.” instead of something patently absurd like “Kentucky doesn’t care about basketball.”?

Only an idiot would say Kentucky cares less about athletics than freaking BYU.

I thought it all came down to him being whipped and letting his wife wear the pants in his family.
That’s 100% what it is, IMO. He couldn’t have been in a better situation than here, if caring about athletics is the excuse. Nobody on the planet cares more about basketball than UK & the fanbase.

Plus, he had a Mormon HC who runs a system that is ideal for his game & we have as much $ to offer as anyone. But, IIRC, his wife had even made comments in the past about bringing him back home.

This situation was as close to “home away from home” as it could possibly be for him. Maybe he was homesick, too, after doing his mission & staying at UK for 2 years. But, it sure feels like his wife made the decision, to me. JMO.

Collin worked his backside off at and for UK. If he got paid a bunch to go home and be closer to family who can blame him? The kid is going to be even better next year and would benefit greatly from UK’s ball handlers and shooters had he stayed. He was the object of most defenses last year toward the end of the season. Don’t let Chandler get hot. Had he had a handle like Wilkins, he would be in the NBA right now.

I liked Chandler a lot and was hoping he would stay for year 3. But, those remarks sound really off and then to mention he was talking about his high school. That makes little sense for a college junior now 5 years removed from high school and coming from what many consider the best basketball school in the country. Now I'm glad he's gone.

What was he going to say, “my game was not being developed at UK”?

That’s the real reason he’s gone. He should have stayed anyway. Collected more money and been the second best player on the team.

Unless he thinks he can play in the NBA one day. If so then he should go to where he can be coached.

It amazes me how many take statements out of context or infer things not intended. He simply indicated he wanted to play at a place that valued the program. Many immediately think we are the ONLY program that values basketball. I understand going back home after four years away. Perhaps they want to start a family and want to be closer to family. I think this throws shade on Utah.

Not a big deal, but his “I was talking about high school” excuse doesn’t make that much sense. Counting his years on Mormon mission, dude is more than four years removed from HS ball …that’s basically a distant memory for him now.

It’s far more logical for folks reading that comment to assume he was comparing to the place he played in more recent years (ie. UK).

Unless you had 2 years of Mitch Barnhart. Our fans care. Our administration cares about profits and backroom deals that make them rich. Chandler had to deal with them directly for NIL. Hopefully that changes. It’s why Mitch is gone. I don’t believe for a second he retired on his own. He was forced out.

Nobody's reading this. Their brains don't come out of 'angry retort mode' without a reboot.
