Getting beat out by clown Cronin would be a bad look.
I agree, but this whole recruitment is strange and who knows the truth. UK media didn't know anything and went crazy off of one source. So, it will still look bad anyway, but this is possibly not a huge whiff as some may make it out to be, or it may be bigger once we ever get the truth.Getting beat out by clown Cronin would be a bad look.
Yeah, I don't see how it can be a whiff when not one person on this board had a clue of who this kid was a month ago, but it would be portrayed that way no doubtI agree, but this whole recruitment is strange and who knows the truth. Their assistant/international recruiting director is an assistant on the Serbian men's national teamGetting beat out by clown Cronin would be a bad look.
So true. That team was the poster for a team that figured out how to play. They were not overly talented and struggled early in a lot of ways. Reached the pinnacle of struggling at halftime of the Vandy game on the road that year and all of a sudden a switch flipped and just like that this team took off. Mostly due to the team defense you mentioned. That team also had elite passing. Daniels, Hayes, Hawkins and Fitch were all very unselfish and I always saw them as elite defensively and passing.
One of my favorite teams as well. 2003 Marquis Estill was very underrated.
Erik Daniels was so underated that year and one of the best passers and instictinve players I've seen.Good add on. Daniels to Hayes and vice versa was a thing of beauty
It's pathetic. I'm still surprised we landed Milan.UK gets used more than any school to get more money out of the school that a player really wants. It's getting really old.
It’s honestly ridiculous, it doesn’t help that outsiders go with the, “it’s a lock or front runner” at the first sign of any information out there and spread it like wildfire. From now on I don’t care if the player themselves say it. Until they sign, don’t even release it.It's pathetic. I'm still surprised we landed Milan.
Hopefully we can realocate the money to some of these '27 recruits.
Pope can't afford to get played again next year. The new AD will send him packing.
Pope has been considered the leader for a ton of guys who didn't end up here.
Losing out to UCLA is wild stuff!
"losing" may not be the right word here. A lot to worry about this recruitment and UCLA may be getting Pettersoned soon. It's pathetic. I'm still surprised we landed Milan.

That play he had with the buzzer beater win is sketched in my memory forever. Love that guy.Erik Daniels was so underated that year and one of the best passers and instictinve players I've seen.
The problem is that our UK insiders (and other outside media) are so desperate for clicks that they embelish that "Kentucky leads" for these guys. Remember how they had us landing Wilkerson, Collins, Stokes (last fall), Dent, etc.?It’s honestly ridiculous, it doesn’t help that outsiders go with the, it’s a lock or front runner at the first sign of any information out there and spread it like wildfire. I don't take them seriously anymore. I know they have to make a living, but man, they've been wrong almost every time.
That would be awesome and would make UK a top 5ish team next year. Why not use the money we have, and call 00 and tell him to return now that the 5 for 5 is a thing. He played 4 in 4. He could play again.
If he goes to UCLA then be becomes a non factor in college basketball, Cronin is by far the worse choice, not sure why he hasn’t been fired yet

I agree, but Pope's recruiting tactics have been terrible up until Hampton's commitment. Going all-in on Stokes was one of the most embarrassing things I've ever seen as far as Kentucky recruiting is concerned.I've been a vocal Pope critic, but this is not a whiff if the kid picks UCLA. This whole minutes restriction BS is a huge red flag imo.
They're probably cooking up some type of narrative right now that they "couldn't share earlier." That just means they had no clue what was happening the last four days or so, but they will act like they did. Virtually no one had UCLA winning this thing. Not Goodman. Not Norlander. Not Trilly. Not the UK recruiting guys.This.
I don't know if any of y'all old heads like me remember how KSR got it's start(stealing catspause premium info) . Now that the true insider's are gone we are left with click bait artists selling subs
It's a "monstrosity" and yet you haven't been able to refute it for at least a year? It's taken you at least this long to cook up something? If it's so stupid why have you sat at your thinking desk for a year and done nothing in terms of shredding it? The argument that you didn't think that it would be taken seriously is also comical considering it's been one of the main talking points on this message board for at least a year. There's no way you were oblivious to that since you've even used it as evidence against Pope. And all it took for you to categorize it as worthy of combating was somebody posting about it on the ksboard? So it went from an illegitimate argument not worthy of confronting to a legitimate argument worth shredding based on one post? Also, I’ve let it go for too long. The stupid 63% career argument. I never really took the time to deal with it because I honestly thought it was so underwhelming no one would take it seriously. Well, I was wrong — I saw someone on KSBoard parrot that the other day and i couldn’t believe it. People think it’s convincing.
I’m going to make a separate post absolutely shredding that lazy monstrosity so we can get back to debating honestly and faithfully. Anyone interested, keep an eye out on it. It’ll be long winded and it’ll be well-reasoned.
I think I already explained why I haven’t touched it. I didn’t think it was worth digging into. I thought most people could understand that not all W/L records are the same. It's a "monstrosity" and yet you haven't been able to refute it for at least a year? Perhaps a year from now you will write a new post supporting it again?
Let's see if you can cook up something without using Dan Hurley as one of your case points.

youve got a sh it attitude sonIt doesn’t make sense. But it keeps happening. 2 years not a big enough sample size to see if it was the difference in resources beteeen mid majors and high majors.
But i’d argue he should have won more than he did at both Utah Valley and BYU given the competition. A great coach would have imo. I understand not winning the WCC with Gonzaga being there. But their stiffest competition at Utah Valley was New Mexico. And outside of Gonzaga the WCC isn’t very good either.
We’ll see. My guess is we get more of the same this season. Despite most of us agreeing the roster will not be the problem this year.
Unfortunately ucla has a Serbian national team coach on staff. That’s why pope is waiting to hire his last guy. See what direction to take with that person.UCLA has Jaylen Petty transferring in from Texas Tech and bring back Trent Perry and Eric Dailey (PF). They are a top 30 team around the likes of BYU and Indiana on most top 25 lists. They've also brought in Gunars Grinvalds, who is a Latvian wing plus they have Joe Philon coming in. Seems they have about as much room for Kusturica as we do.
Selling a young European on the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles probably isn't too hard. EU people visiting the US tend to go to one of three places pretty consistently - LA, NY, Miami. They're probably selling him on getting looks from the Lakers or rubbing elbows with them. My guess is he's too naive to know that UCLA hasn't been a factor in the media or CBB in forever. If he goes to UCLA then be becomes a non factor in college basketball, Cronin is by far the worse choice, not sure why he hasn’t been fired yet
Because they're all about traffic / clicks - the age of the influencer or gaining followers - that's all it's about. If there's even a hint, my FB feed is full of all sorts of KY "pages" that puke out hype left and right (with a "follow us for more" comment always present somewhere). It’s honestly ridiculous, it doesn’t help that outsiders go with the, “it’s a lock or front runner” at the first sign of any information out there and spread it like wildfire. From now on I don’t care if the player themselves say it. Until they sign, don’t even release it.
Yep, LA is an NBA then MLB town. No one cares about UCLA anything except maybe alumni that stuck around town. When I lived in SoCal for 10 years in the 2000s, my personalized plates were "UK CATS1" - literally no one knew what that meant, and I had several people over that time ask "what kind of cat is unique to the UK?" - this even happened at the NCAA tournament in Anaheim I attended (UK vs Marquette), and the arena was stark empty! That job and athletic department is in the dumps like no ones business, no one else wants it

Yea it’s just someone I’m sure his agents and family are really familiar and comfortable with. UCLA is a horrible place for him but money solves that.It doesn't look like Kusturica is on that team yet that Jovanovic will be assistant coaching with. Kusturica is playing for the U17 team. But UCLA also has added Milan Zarkovic on their staff too, who is from Serbia.
a lot to worry about on this one. Minutes restriction, lack of enthusiasm about a guarantee of a second yr, focused more on NBA stock than the actual team. Might be nothing but we have a good sample size of players in the past 2yrs scrI've been a vocal Pope critic, but this is not a whiff if the kid picks UCLA. This whole minutes restrict, ion BS is a huge red flag imo.

Ehhhh...I don't believe that to be true. Recruiting has changed and the coverage of it needs to adjust. Long are the days of a guy committing and announcing a month later. These guys are reporting what they are hearing from sources. Sources that got there information a day or two before. In today's world that might as well be 10ys.The problem is that our UK insiders (and other outside media) are so desperate for clicks that they embelish that "Kentucky leads" for these guys.
