He drained it to the lowest level since its inception. It will now have to be refilled, and that will keep prices elevated as that supply is removed from the market
Isn’t Trump continuing to release millions of barrels? (I don’t pay much attention to this but thought I read that recently)

The propaganda emanating from the WH is truly disgusting.

You know it's bad when even loyal MAGA Congressional Republicans are finally starting to criticize the WH.
It's not just the "Rinos" that Radical Right media proclaimed earlier.

Midterms gonna be a bloodbath for the GOP.
And well deserved.

Basically Rs have about 3 months to fix all of this before voting officially starts. That's not much time. They've got to somehow end the sinkhole of a war, get gas prices way down, get inflation down, and put a lid of Trump who is bound to throw a wrench in it at any time in 12 weeks. Good luck.

Agree with some of this - I 100% did not want troops on the ground and I said for months we should just pack up and leave the Middle East to whoever else is dumb enough to try to fix that sh*tshow. I’m glad we left for sure.

Where I think you view this through MAGA colored glasses is in how you interpret the strait issue. Literally every talking head said at the outset Iran would impact the flow of oil by virtue of their capabilities in the strait of Hormuz. I have seen a large number of former US military talking heads discuss that the military had for many years had plans, but that it would have to involve ground troops if you wanted to secure it. They discussed the many fortified caves, etc where Iran stashed small boats, missiles, etc. There were numerous articles about how difficult it would be to remove those capabilities with air and sea power alone.

So I see it less as a miscalculation and more of an awful strategic blunder born from Trump’s inability to listen to others. Trump went with his dumb gut vs the smart people advising him. If he had no intention of using ground troops then he should not have done something that would require ground troops to pull off. That is one of the massive strategic errors Trump made here. Calling it a simple miscalculation is like forgiving a college math professor who says 1+1=5. If you are president you should not make strategic errors this large.
Fair criticism and thanks for the honest reply.

I’ll just say that without risk, comes no reward. Trump and Israel saw that 40 top leaders were gathered together and they thought that opportunity outweighed the risk of the Strait. I won’t say he was right or wrong, but framing it as 1+1=5 is not a fair analysis either. Of course we aren’t privy to all the details, so no one really knows what he was advised on.

No risk no reward. Sometimes it backfires, and I’ll accept the argument that this wasn’t perfect. Trump went with his gut and was wrong? Fair.

But one must acknowledge that his gut has served him extremely well over the last 10 years. Venezuela, his gut was 100% correct in hindsight. He won election twice, he is not dumb or stupid like Kamala, as many would like to say.

I’m glad his gut read the room and can see we don’t want boots on the ground. His response since the initial strikes have been measured in my opinion.

I agree it may be more than simple
Miscommunication, but it far from the “Massive strategic errors” you describe. We won the war. They won’t be getting a bomb. Oil touched $72 this week. The leader who kept calling for “death to America” is with 72 virgins right now. If that is the result of a masssive strategic error, I’m ok with it. The United States has room for errors, thanks to our Military might.

I give Trump a C+ on the Iran war and I think k people will be more concerned with their wallets come mid terms, than some supposed “massive strategic errors” that didn’t harm us at all.

I strongly disagree that this was clearly stated, I think Trump and his administration have stated other goals (sometimes conflicting prior statements) multiple times from the beginning.

I also am not convinced the nuclear program was even remotely close to achieving a nuclear weapon. This is an example of Trump’s own statements contradicting himself. If a nuclear program was truly obliterated, in no world would it be possible to achieve a nuclear weapon in less than a year.
The goal has always been clearly stated and has never changed.

You may feel they were not close to a nuke but their opening negotiating position was “we have enough material for 11 bombs”. Bad mistake on their part if they lied.

Maybe further intelligence decided it wasn’t completely obliterated? You take Trump literal, but he is in charge of driving the narrative, it’s one of our weapons, aka propaganda.

When Trump says things, a lot of time he is just jawbowning, a tactic I’m ok with.

It’s already a winning trade. Oil down to $72 this week.

And, he didn’t use it as a political weapon. He could wait until three weeks before mid terms, release all the oil, drive gas prices down, and thus inflation. Thats what dems did.

Instead, he released it when the public needed it. It’s part of why gas prices never got as high during the Ukraine war.

Still a lot to play out though, movie isn’t over

The time frame they claim is based on how long it would take to enrich uranium to 90+%. With sufficient centrifuges and the 60% material they had, they were days away. That, however, assumes they have a bomb ready to receive that material. A pile of 90% uranium without a bomb to hold it... is a pile of 90% uranium.

That's why the JCPOA limited not just the enrichment level of Iran's uranium but also strictly limited the number of centrifuges they could have.

BTW, don't keep your 90% uranium in a pile. It can go critical all on its own. That's a bad day. 🤢🤮

The SPRs all over the world have been drained. That's the credit card we've been using to keep oil prices artificially low.

The thing here will be the damage done to the repository itself. We store it in old salt mines. To get it out, we have to pump water in to lift the oil. Oil doesn't dissolve salt. Water, on the other hand...

We’ll have to agree to disagree on this point, which is fine.

At no point during this latest war would I describe the stated objectives as coherent.

The issue is Dems seem motivated.
Republicans, not so much.

Even in Mississippi North, where Republicans have a significant advantage in voter registration, I think their turnout won't be great.
The GOP "enablers" deserve the beating headed their way.

I thought the deal Obama made at the time was a good deal, and don’t consider myself a hawk, but I thought the way Trump handled Iran before this latest war was very good, given the circumstances in the Middle East.

But this current war has been a self inflicted disaster. Not saying anything original, but I think the relative success of the Venezuela situation got Trump way too overconfident about his foreign policy.
from a purely military standpoint....if you're going to start a war, you have to have the willingness to win it on the battlefield. I agree with one of the national analysts, can't remember which one, who stated that with Iran in control of the strait, the Trump deal is worse than Obama's. We have now seen how the game is going to be played...if the US and/or Israel is "good" then the strait is open..if "bad" we close the strait. How can we live with that?

I didn't think the first ceasefire was a good idea, and while we all have to wait to see the final outcome, this one isn't starting out very well either IMO.

The game is changing, and the strait is and will decline in importance.

Agree that, if the war is indeed truly over (Israel seems to have other intentions I hope Trump can talk them down), all that matters for the midterms will be the pocketbook.

It’s the economy stupid is the most accurate reflection of where American votes will land. We shall see.

You are citing military actions. I’m discussing political decisions. Trump decided to tear apart the deal we had in place with Iran. He decided to then attack Iran. Now, Iran knows the mere threat of closing down the straight can stress and even collapse the global economy.
Iran has been threatening to close down the Straight for decades. For literally, 43 years. Just how ignorant are you libs?

Show me where America is sending $300 billion to Iran. Show just one legitimate source. You can't, and you're simply making sh&t up.
Here?

Point 6: The United States of America undertakes with regional partners to develop a definitive, mutually agreed plan with at least $300 billion (£225 billion) for the reconstruction and economic development of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

No I'm not. The entire world knows this. You simply have nothing. Between the U.S. and Israel, over 14,500 sorties have been flown.
Cool, so just know, when you post things without sources, but then call yourself a researcher and call people out for not using sources (that you yourself never provide), it’s somewhat funny to those of us who don’t agree with you. It’s more than a bit hypocritical.

Meaning we're on the hook to make sure Iran gets paid $300 billion. Ofc we can hope that JD can convince one of our allies to foot the bill. But since Trump has gone out of his way to poison our relationship with our allies, that hope feels misguided.

Anyway you spin it, we are going to pay 300 billion to Iran. Whether we "invest" in the country, leverage our partnerships with other countries, etc. the fact remains we are (to your point) on the hook for 300 Billion dollars to Iran and we would NEVER have been in that position had he not started this stupid war.

We got crushed by Iran and the pallets on pallets of money that we will be sending over there is lunacy
