So do you think Caden solidified himself as the third starter today? I would think so, but I have no clue!

He will be used when needed like he has all year in the first two games. Omaha is like a regional, you use who you need to to start 2-0 at all costs.

If at that point he hasn’t been significantly used, maybe he starts game 3, especially if we’re facing elimination. If we start 2-0, we may treat it like we did the Sunday regional game.

Not advising, just guessing…. DeCaro. Even though this is effectively the same as a Regional double elimination, it sets up much differently. We may be the top seed left in that half of the bracket, but we aren’t a 1-seed playing a 4-seed. In fact, I like the way it sets up for us. We get arguably the stiffest competition (Ol’ Miss) in the first game and can play them straight up full strength. DeCaro for sure, and then we think about matchups in the winners bracket against Troy or WVU.

Omaha gives you a day of rest while the other side of the bracket plays. That’s huge for Rose, Duff and Globe.

And our side is the more stretched out side if we do lose one of our first two. The longest route possible for us is Fri-Sun-Tues-Wed-Thurs. To come out of the losers bracket on the other side you have to play 4 straight days.

SEC bats have seen a lot of fastballs like Lynch throws. Lynch probably plays better in game two vs Troy or WVU.
SEC teams play in small parks. Omaha wind will be a factor. The SEC teams rely on the HR and you won’t get a ton of carry and HRs in Omaha. We set up perfectly for Omaha this year. We need to play small ball and pitch like we have the last 2 games.

I think Rose will start the first game not startled by DeCaro or Lynch. Glauber will be used as the long relief option he’s been all season. The days off (as mentioned above) mean Glauber and McDuffie will be extra effective and more available than in a traditional weekend series.

The emergence of Rose - and Forbes’ confidence to use him for key outs - is a key development for this team’s prospects. Agree he may get the first non-Lynch/Decaro start, and the format should allow him to pitch a bit before that, too, if needed.

The game changes in Omaha. Those big HR teams die out there ever since the new ballpark was built. If you keep the ball down in the zone, it will be a very long day for those HR hitting teams.
