How do you think bullpen development works? Just because you pitch somebody more doesn’t mean they magically get better as the season goes on
The more concerning thing is that we seem to lack the same elements every year - high velocity lefties, power hitters, starter depth. We haven’t had a complete roster formula since that freshman Skye Bolt team.

In terms of underperforming as a top team it does, which is the obvious implication. Obviously ceasing to be a top team would be way worse but we expect Forbes and UNC to be elite.
We live in a world where in back to back years the number 1 and 2 seeds haven’t made it out of the regionals and you want to act like losing in the super regionals would be worse

If Arizona came back to beat us last year, why can’t we do the same thing? Yes, USC is better than Arizona, but my goodness, it’s not over yet. I’ll be back at the Bosh tomorrow melting in the heat, and will be there again on Sunday. I’m just as sad as everyone else is, but giving up on this team now is dumb. They have been fantastic all year. Today was bad, but it’s not over. Also, Canes fans should know that giving up like a lot of people are now is stupid. We’ve got this.

Still a chance to win it and get to Omaha but that was a gut punch. A team that has responded all year went out with a whimper today. This team has feasted all year on walks and hit batters. USC took that away and made them hit and they didn’t.

For McDuffie, staff panicked when Lynch got in trouble. McDuffie warmed up very little. Don’t think he was ready.

Tough loss but the lack of response was shocking. Misplays in the field, weak at bats, just all around terrible after the 5th.

Have you watched Decaro’s last 2 starts? Because of if you have you are the dumba$$! He hasn’t had it at all! Is that what we roll with to save our season or one the best pitchers in the conference

Having it happen to the same team, in back to back years, both times ranked #1 (either as the title favorite or per D1) would be INCREDIBLY disappointing. Can you really argue with that?

Is anyone actually surprised by the outcome? Lol.
I am - had the game in hand and Forbes over thought the pitching - had a chance to put all the pressure on USC but went habitual with Walker ( who has been the man up until last couple of weeks ) and USC lit him up from the get go - when they were not tagging him he was high in the zone and they waited him out. It’s baseball - dance with who brung ya and hope

I’m not giving up on this team but this has to be said and I hope I don’t get flamed too hard for it.

Losing one year in Supers, while you are ranked #1, and then losing the next year in Supers as the title favorite, would be catastrophic. I don’t see how your interest as a fan doesn’t wane at least a little. You would have to question Forbes, as much as I love him. That’s about as bad as it gets.
GT and UCLA are also out. Baseball is a weird sport. You can win a ton of regular season games with good coaching and consistent performances but still lack the talent to win in the postseason when teams clutch up. The culture of UNC athletics in most sports leads to a lot of regular season success, but we still need elite talent to win titles. There's a reason that most of the teams left are SEC teams with all their money to spend on players.

No doubt we need to give Forbes more money but I think my point stands that it would be catastrophic not to make it to Omaha twice in a row as the #1 remaining team.

Of course it would be disappointing but nobody that pays attention to this program should be questioning Scott Forbes at all the way his five years have gone with funding well below other contenders

If we are using your logic about starts we should be saving Glauber for Sunday since boaz been terrible right? No you put out your ace starter for his 3 years he’s been there and have Glauber back em up

Yes, you would have thought that Walker would have done what he did all year. TBH, it was just one hanging slider. Forbes has forgotten more baseball than I will ever know but I think I would have Lynch try to get that last out, espically since he had just gotten a strikeout
THE SLIDER WASNT HUNG, the kid made a fantastic swing.

Starting in the 7th, Winslow laser to left, Paulsen near-gapper the guy ran down, Gallaher sharp grounder GIDP, Winslow rocket to center to end the game. Like half the outs the last 3 innings were good swings. The stunning thing was the Schaffner play. He had way more time than he realized. The runner actually stopped between 3rd and home because he knew he was going to be out.

The bottom of the 6th was brutal, though. We needed to answer back and went down in like 7 pitches.

Well we need to give him elite money if we expect him to be elite, that’s for sure. Do we have any numbers, even ballpark, on the actual difference though? I know UNC Baseball got a 9 million dollar donation recently. We certainly aren’t poor.

Regardless, I don’t understand why you are downplaying my point. It would hurt like a mother******* for any fan base to suffer that kind of collapse two years in a row.

The Clemson series enters the conversation. Curiously enough, Clemson won the first game 9-5. The Heels took the next 2 to take the series.
Thank you!!! I know everyone is upset, but good gosh. This team doesn’t want their season to end tomorrow. I’m confident about Saturday. Sunday is my biggest concern. We absolutely can do it though.

You said we should question Forbes I think that’s BS
