Yeah, I have a really crummy sciatic nerve issue on my right side exacerbated by my pronated gait - and I exacerbate it every night because I tend to bring my knees up toward my chest while I sleep.

Basically, while sleeping, I shorten the muscle and it goes into mild spasm EVERY MORNING - which means I have to baby it and get it all stretched out and loose before I can walk "normal." This is ironically also why I started doing "shower squats" like Brian - helps to loosen that tight muscle chain.

The crazy thing is I can be practically paralyzed from pain and unable to even stand straight, and then a half hour later, it's like I've never had back pain in my life and I can go golfing. 🤷‍♂️
I'm 39 and decided two years ago to run a marathon. Never ran more than 5 miles at once in my life. Got up to the 18 mile training run, then couldn't walk because my hip was so tight. Dry needling did wonders with a PT. Then it was because my other side IT Band and quad was messed up. Had those needled. Ran the marathon, and since then I have had terrible plantar fascitis and some arthritis in my left foot on the same side as the IT Band. Now I am supposed to stretch 45-60 mins per day and every time I get out of bed I can barely walk.

Even 10 years ago that wouldn't have happened but in HS I had IT Band and plantar fascitis issues and in college too playing ball. They were just annoyances but now it is incredibly frustrating. Crazy what age can do. My goal is when the kids get a bit older and we aren't waking up every night to calm a kid down, to try to lift / work out most days so I can rehab all my issues and be in good shape going into my mid 40's and early 50's.

Sorry you have to go through that, back spasms are terrible. Have you ever considered a really well respected PT that does dry needling? Only thinking that because it's possible the mild spasm you are getting is triggered by a larger spasm in a deeper muscle that only dry needling would be able to "hit and release".

That was the issue when I was having my *** muscle tightness originally. The muscle knot was so deep that normal stretching and golf ball / tennis ball release methods couldn't fully release the muscle. A lot of the tightness was actually in my lower right back where it meets the *** but the spasm was deep in my gluteus media and after dry needling it basically cured that part. It sounds like you got a good handle on it though, just wanted to give my experience in case it may help yours.

have you tried yoga? there are 2-3 poses that completely eliminated sciatica (that had persisted prior for months) for someone i know. only did it for a short while (i think about a week) and it solved the issue almost immediately. didn't do the yoga after the sciatica was gone but it stayed gone for years afaik.

I actually did just start working with a fantastic PT here in Davenport. She's an Iowa grad (Top 5 ranked PT school!) and a former national championship caliber swimmer at KU. She does all kinds of interesting techniques - just did fascia "scraping" this week - and it is making a big difference. Many of my stretches are also yoga-positions. I've got a pretty good routine going - and in addition to swimming - I've really increased my mobility and decreased the amount of time I have spasm issues. I just have to really stay at it.

My wife is doing dry needling for some issues and thinks it's working - I am thinking I need to try to add it in too.

Take magnesium glycinate and b complex once a day with food.

Listening to that doctor and nurse sounds like it might have cost you 10k with no benefit. Laying in bed with a wet towel on your forehead is a lot cheaper.
And, aren't you religious? Are you scared of dying? If you passed it would mean eternal bliss, right?
As George Michael said, " You gotta have faith".
Of course, he's dead now from myocarditis.
Is that a good or a bad thing if you have the faith?
Can you help a towel understand?

I'm 43...too young to die...I've got too much to give the world.

No offense Brian, but I think they told you to go there so they didn’t cave to deal with you any longer…..

Last year I had my first aura with my migraines. Couldn't see anything but the swirling lights.
Know what I did?
Mentioned it to my doctor at my next regular appointment....

Thanks for the healing prayers. I feel strong!

I probably had a lingering effect from a migraine...I'm going to start eating sardines each week which helps.

I give the emergency room and hospital a 9/10 overall.

Now, I wait for the medical bills. 🤢
If I never had a migraine and subsequent symptoms like those I may well have shown up. (My insurance is pretty good anyway)

If this is something you've been through before, maybe don't worry so much.

I blew up my ankle this week coaching my son's baseball team.

I lent a kid my glove for him to try because he has everything bouncing out of his glove at first.

He turns around on the next play and forgets I don't have a glove and just fires one at me. It is low so I jump to get out of the way, end up knocking the ball straight down the landing off center full weight on the ball. My ankle just crumpled and I heard/felt two solid pops.

X-rays came back negative yesterday, but I am going to see if I can avoid being in a full boot.
You'll heal faster in a walking boot with less chances of reinjury.

If this is something you've been through before, maybe don't worry so much.

I've never had my vision impacted for 5 days after a migraine which is why I went to the emergency room.

I think it was the right choice.

I'm unsure.

They took a metabolic panel and did blood work. I searched the results and didn't see the word "sugar" in it...only "glucose."

It was normal.

Is that similar?
Glucose is your sugar level.
3 month average is a1nc if I recall, and daily (finger prick measure) is in some metric number or something

source: my blood sugar has been an issue periodically in my 40’s. I was/am shocked the mess high sugar can cascade throughout your system.

A1c or HbA1c. It shows how much sugar has attached to your red blood cells, also known as acetylated hemoglobin. It's a better read out of long term high blood glucose aka hyperglycemia.

Yes.

A doctor just prescribed me Imitrex which I tried before with no success.

I started getting brutal migraines in 2001...twice a month. I went to several neurologists.

I tried taking many "rescue" meds both pills and in nasal spray form and nothing helped.

In 2011, I started taking fish oil with high DHA daily.

My migraines have dropped 95%!

Fish oil helps lower migraine pain.

I didn't have a migraine from October 2021 until last December and I've had 4 migraines since then.

A doctor I talked to said I should double my fish oil regimen so I will...I'm also going to eat sardines once a week.

She said sometimes supplements weaken because of supply issues so I probably need a higher dose and/or a new brand.
