Maybe? Idk. Everyone is overpaid now. What did we pay Moreno? I'd say Chandler is worth at least 3/4 of whatever we're paying him

Christian Collins would absolutely start for us. He is similar to Momcilovic though, a hybrid 3/4, so the team would look a lot different. I'd prefer Momcilovic, but you can't expect to get the very last guy to pull out of the draft every year.

If you go with keeping Momcilovic and gotten Collins also, we probably lose Hawthorne, maybe Kam Williams, and never get N'Diaye.

Well, it depends on if we have/had an actual NIL budget. If so, then you have to make touch decision.

However, I suspect there is no budget, and it's just all Wild West out there. If that's the case, yes, I would've paid it. I think he can be a 12 point a game kind of player. Plus, he's good for the occasional Top 10 plays on ESPN.

Would you prefer Zoom/Chandler back court or Zoom/Wilkens back court? Chandler and Wilkens are both starters, so I think you get 1 but not both. I think Wilkens provides more versatility as he has past point guard skills. Chandler's numbers should improve next season as he will be a Junior and now has two years' experience as a player and a year as a starter. Also, playing next to a point guard will improve his game dramatically. I think Chandler will be a double digit a game scorer for BYU. He and Wilkens could post similar offensive numbers. I could easily see each 15+ a game. I just think Wilkens point guard ability is key vs Chandler.

Does anyone know what BYU gave him? Haven't seen that.
Rumor was 3.2 million, that's pure scuttle. I was told we offered 2.5, both numbers IMO are too much for him. His ceiling is limited, good athlete and good shooter but overall not starting caliber for a true contender. Would have loved to have him as a 6th man.

He is not worth more than $1m. He's a decent straight line athlete with a streaky shot. OTOH, he's a terrible defender, complete liability there. A poor ball handler, can't create for himself, and not a great finisher. He seems like a good kid, but he is not even a great 6th man on a good team.

Collin at $1 million would be a steal

Yes, this portal season 1 million didn't get you much. Backup guards like Morton are 1 million +. Chandler was a 1.8-2.4 type guy IMO but he felt he was a 3-4 million guy and that is why he left. He found someone willing to pay so good for him.
I am not mad at him for taking the money, get what you can get. But he still can't defend in the pick and roll, his lateral foot speed makes him a bad defender against most guards, and his handle is below average. If I am building a roster, he's getting back up money, because that is what he is on a good team.

I'd have preferred keeping him because it turns out he is the type of guy that would make me feel the roster is really flush and bullet proof as can reasonably be expected.

The figure is a very large for the role though which would be 6th or even 7th man.

It sort of feels like we had to pick between Collin and one of Wilkins or Kam to have a wife proof offer and I think if so it played out the best it could have. I think they add more value though he is a luxury I sorely would like to be able afford.

No, I like Chandler a lot and wished he'd stayed, but wouldn't give him that much. We came out OK at that position so it shouldn't be a problem but he could have been a good leader as a 3rd year guy at Kentucky.

looking back would you or no?

Absolutely not. He is completely overrated. A short athletic 3 point shooter. No handle. No D, and before anyone cites some announcer or analyst just go watch the actual games and watch other teams hunt him out. It was embarrassing.

Letting some of those guys walk was my first sign of hope with roster management.

To answer the question, NO.

He is made for BYU, that is where his heart is and his wife is happier in Utah.

We needed a complete house cleaning so he will not be missed. Nor will anyone who transferred.

Why does anyone care what the cost is? We aren't paying it and there is no salary cap.
Yeah, the prices will continue to mirror the cost of FA in any major sports. The first NBA cap was $3.6M. The first hard NFL cap was $34M. Dak Prescott and Steph Curry make $60M per year...each. Its the price of the party now Mates

Also pretty streaky (more month-to-month than game-to-game)

It comes down to would you rather have Alex Wilkins or Collin Chandler. Because they both would start at the 2 spot on this team, so it's one or the other. I really liked Collin...but I think I would take Alex over him so I'm glad we didn't give him the 3 million. I think Wilkins has a much more well rounded game, and he can also play PG at an elite level if Diallo were to get hurt. You just have to have an elite PG facilitator/ball handler to go anywhere in March.

If he could have actually been a back up pg like everyone said he could be yes, but i think we all saw that wasnt true. So no 1.5 mil was about what he was worth as a solid back up. What he should have been all along.

It is interesting reading about the lack of defense as the primary reason for not paying Collins, yet that is a major weakness of Momcilovic and he was reportedly paid $7.5.
