My Concerns With Milan in the SEC

I like Milan’s skillset, but if we’re being real, there are some legitimate concerns about how it translates to the SEC. This league isn’t built for finesse wings…it’s built on length, physicality, and athletes who turn every possession into a collision.

I’m not saying he can’t succeed…the shooting is real, and the skill is obvious. But if he’s going to justify the hype and the price tag, he has to prove he can handle the speed, size, and violence of SEC basketball. Thoughts?

Just gonna say this, the Big12 is arguably the best conference in basketball, they have athletes, great coaches, high level recruits, and he’s coming from a program under a coach that is tough as nails. A 50% 3 point shooter (on volume) is used to being a focal point of defensive scouts. He’ll be fine.

I agree with all you say about this league (where else can you lose your point guard two years in a row to dislocated shoulders) and have complained about how physical the sport has become. But with roster turnover and NIL there are questions every year like these. Furthermore one always wonders how the players will mesh. Many will look at the talent and stats of individuals and claim we have a title contender. I’ll wait to make my evaluation until I see them play together. How do they protect home court, how do they play on neutral and away schools, and how do they respond when not playing well and/or are behind.

I know this is a troll post but every bullet point is laughable. Ranked 95th defensively on Evan Miya analytics, is a misnomer that he sucks on D. Rebounding would be his one semi weakness but the other “points” made in the OP is absolutely wrong.

Defense is the concern. He isnt going to be able to guard his man on the floor unless he plays the 4. Then that creates other issues depending on the matchup.

The other issue that will come up if we hit any serious adversity is how much he got paid. He got paid, paid and that wont be ignored if the season starts sliding. We already saw Pope being unable to manage fall out last season.

Offensively he should be good.

I don’t know where our fans got this idea that there’s this massive gap between the SEC and Big 12. There’s NOT. In fact, the Big 12 was actually better than the SEC this year, and historically is better most years.

The SEC had that ONE insane season a couple years ago where it was WAY better than every other conference. And a lot of our fans seemed to misinterpret that to mean that’s how it normally is. It’s not. That was just a crazy one season anomaly where it seemed like nearly the whole conference had its best team in years at the same time. Things returned to normal the very next season.

I think the OP was stating that, unlike in the Big 12, he will be targeted in the SEC. I would say the SEC definitely has longer, better athletes than the Big 12 too. The OP is correct in that it's a source of concern and too early to pop champagne bottles. MM is a very skilled offensive player, but he's slow. I don't have high confidence that his numbers will improve at UK.

Brea was way more limited and folks thought he wouldn't be able to handle the SEC. He did fine. Momcilovic is taller, more crafty, and has a ton of go to moves to create space. If you try to take him away, you open things up for the guards. Moreno is very good at clearing out lanes.

I agree to a point but I will say the SEC does let the teams bang, beat, and scrap a little more in some games (hard telling when it’s a touch foul night or concussion equals foul. Not saying it’s by design, the SEC hired a lot of refs fired from other conferences and it is what it is.

It's no different than the Big12, why does everybody keep thinking there is a huge difference, the SEC might be a better overall conference but the talent level and the physicality is close to the same

The Big 12 was better than the SEC , what are you talking about? Arizona beat our SEC champs by 30. We got beat by almost 30 by a Big 12 team.

He'll probably be in the NBA after this season. I've heard it's almost as physical as the SEC...
