See this is what Pope doesn't have. I don't think it's personality/ "weirdness", though that doesn't help him one bit. I think it's more that elite players can't get any elite references for Pope. Like look at the competition -- Kelsey was on staff at WF when they had Chris Paul, Jeff Teague, and Al Aminu. If those guys vouch for him, those are amazing references. Lloyd built the Gonzaga pipeline and got a guy like Corey Kispert drafted in the first round. Thats impactful to a guy like MM who aspires to be elite. MM does not look at Koby Brea and say "I wanna be him"
I think it’s because he thinks mark pope is content with 46-26, and is incredibly proud of his sweet 16 and round of 32 departures. I think it is because, pope doesn’t accept accountability and doesn’t want to get better and grow, he would rather throw the players under the bus. Using injuries as an excuse, when Milan just saw how his Iowa state team adjusted without JJ to beat Kentucky by 19, when JJ played 35 games last season. And he was way better than what Lowe, JQ or anyone on our team could have given us except maybe Oweh. I think MM would be better off going elsewhere, but I hope he picks Kentucky. But if he doesn’t, I completely understand and I don’t blame him.

So theoretically if Louisville lands him, they roll out a 30 million+ dollar roster, if they achieve anything less than an ACC title, and national championship (at least an appearance), are we really thinking donors are gonna continue to pour that much funding?

If they love the game like a lot of us here, and have the money to blow, I really don’t see why not. Kelsey has gotten a lot of excitement back there, where a long time it was stagnant. I will forever hope they lose every game, but if I was a fan of them,(yuck), I’d be over the moon with the direction of the basketball program and be happy to throw in the pot, Compared to the last 7 or 8 years, it probably does feel like they’ve won the championship. lol. 😆. I don’t know how far they’ll go this season but they’ve done a great job this offseason in my opinion. They definitely have a chance to win a lot of games I think. (Yuck again)!

This was posted on a UK pages IG story earlier in case anyone hadn’t seen it!
UK and UL are reporting numbers directly to Matt Jones after each offer. Everyone knows in negotiations you want the other entity and the public to know your offer so it can be used against you. Good to see basic common sense and logic are alive and well.

I agree with the lack of accountability...but which players did he throw under the bus?

I checked HOB just to see if any new threads or updates had came out, looks like usual our “insiders” don’t know squat and haven’t even posted since Saturday. Maybe one of our members there can chime in and let us know what they are saying(or not saying). Seems like a waste of money.

Kelsey has apparently upped the offer to Milan, which is the reason for the delay. Either he will go to Louisville, or Pope will have to go up even more.
He better get whatever it takes to get him. If it’s $8 million get 8. He can’t lose this recruitment, especially to Louisville. Yet another (lock) elite recruit we were always favored for and missed yet again.

This whole system breeds player jealousy.
If Moreno doesn't have a problem you can bet some of the other 10 guys will.
You’re exactly right…the longer this drags out, the more it turns into a Punic victory for Pope: a win that costs so much it might as well be a loss.

If Pope pays superstar money, the fanbase will expect superstar production. But he’s walking into:
• the brightest spotlight in college basketball
• the most physical league in the country
• a schedule where he’ll be circled on every scouting report

When one player gets dramatically overpaid, two groups immediately feel it:
• Mercenaries who came for their own bag
• Loyalists who committed early and now feel undervalued

I am not feeling good about this…the longer it drags out.

Dude...no. There is no "Punic victory".
If UK gets him, that's a win.

How is this any different from any pro sport tho? The most sought after players get the biggest bag. If you're jealous, pro sports isn't the line of work for you.

This isn't supposed to be a pro sport but that's topic for another thread.
There's player jealousy on every NBA team and always has been.

There's been a lot of bad info circulating around this off-season. I think a lot of people's sources have dried up or people are being way more tight-lipped than usual. Even Trilly has been missing a lot.
I think being a leader or whatever now carries little weight. So much money floating around that decisions change hourly sometimes. They probably hear of a verbal deal, then the agent shops around and gets a new one.

I see your point but look at our roster. We are currently a bottom half SEC team.
I don't see any scenario where we would be better without him than with him. He would be our best player by a significant margin.
They are definitely better on paper with.
Who knows how he will.mesh with the rest of the team if he gets an absurd amount of money.

If he loses Momcilovic, his career here is over. Major part of the job is bringing UK level talent here. If he can’t do that, he can’t be the coach. Next season will just be this weird limbo.
