I believed you because I ended up with something like that one time when I tried making pork belly burn ends. I ran errands while it cooked, my son called me and asked if flames are supposed to be shooting out of the two chimneys on the smoker, and told me it’s super hot. Some of the paint actually peeled off. I ended up with literal charcoal brickets which started as chunks of pork belly.
My wife is a bad cook so this looks like an upgrade. Where's my invite?
