I think Yes because hosting again was the primary goal. Winning that hosted regional is one more notch in the success column. But we saw greater potential than that at times this year, and we left some meat on the bone throughout the season. Success, yes. Maximized our potential, probably not.

I feel like any year you host and win your regional is a success. If you get to super regionals consistently, you will get to the the CWS regularly. If you get to the CWS regularly, you will win occasionally.

But it will still be somewhat disappointing compared to the excitement at the beginning of the year.

It's been a weird season to me. It's been disappointing to an extent relative to the pre-season/non-conference expectations. A lot of that disappointment has likely been colored by the UGA, UT, Texas, Auburn, and A&M series even the Arkansas series to an extent. Having said that, I think a lot of that is because of how closely we all follow this team coupled with the sky - high expectations to start the year.

Ultimately, a home regional and making a super is a successful season. My belief is always that if you put yourself in the position to play postseason baseball at home it's a successful season. I'd also add I think the future is really bright with this staff in place.

Being a host is enough for me to say this is a good season. Acceptable for what I think should be high expectations considering our HC's pay package and pedigree. Fortunately I expect that he feels similar.

I can't call it a success unless we win this regional. I think being a Top 16 team every year should be expected of this program going forward.

This scenario would definitely be a successful year 1. We have hosted a Regional 3-4 times in the last 20 years (2021, 2019, 2016, & 2013). I am sure someone will correct me if I missed any.

Post season baseball is just weird. The best teams often do not make it to Omaha. We just need to consistently have our program in a position to make it to Omaha which means hosting Regional & Supers regularly.

I think we should expect to host a regional 3 maybe 4 out of every 5 years going forward.

Long answer is it's been a roller-coaster:
If you'd asked me in January, I'd have said yes.
If you'd asked me anytime between the UCLA game and Fear going down, I'd have said no; Omaha or bust.
If you'd asked me anytime between Fear going down and Foster's performance against UM, I'd have said yes.
If you'd asked me after we swept UM and until the Tennessee series, I'd be back to Omaha or bust (reminder that SEC replay team likely cost us two of the UGA games).
If you'd asked me anytime between the second Tennessee game and now, I'm saying yes.

If they are handled by UGA in 2 games, no. This roster and coaching staff was not assembled to be a borderline host and travel to arguably the best team in the country for a super.

I do think we will have a puncher's chance against UGA in the Super, but as thekimmer states: Georgia could not make it out of their regional like last year. It is possible, if not probable, UGA chokes again.

We must not choke at DNF. And with BOC I don't believe we will.

I don’t feel like you can call a season that ends in a Super a failure. Even 2016 which is our most famous Super Regional loss, still was a great season.

I do think I would call it a failure if we failed to get out of the Regional on our own field after a somewhat underwhelming regular season.

It would be hard to not call it a success. Were there times I convinced myself this team is capable of doing it all the way? Yes, and it will suck if we don’t (I still think we haven’t put the complete package together and if we do watch out). But to make a super even if on the road is a success.

Yes, it would be a successful first season. Disappointing at times and I still think it's due to the pitching injuries and lack of quality depth.

I believe we could have won 2-4 more games with McPherson starting all year and be a national seed. That said, Georgia is just a better baseball team than we are this year.

May not be a popular opinion, but any year where you make a Super Regional is generally a success. I believe that to be true of any program. Anything can happen in a 3-game weekend series in college baseball. I’ve seen LSU get slayed by 17ing Stony Brook in 2 games. That elite team that Vandy had in 2013 got knocked off at home by a far inferior Louisville squad. MSU’s 2016 team - which was arguably even more loaded than the 2013 or 2021 squads, ran into a red-hot Arizona team (17 you forever, Bobby Dalbec).

If you make the Supers every year (which nobody does), that’s going to lead to you getting to Omaha at least once every 2-3 years. That’s a peak level of success for any program.

I know I’m coming across as negative but yes this year has been extremely disappointing given the expectations we had across the board coming in. Even the coaches were saying it’s one of the best lineups ever etc… then to go 4-15 vs top 10 teams.

We could go on to Omaha and everything be right with the world but we shouldn’t even be in this spot. I haven’t given up as a fan and oconnor should definitely be given another year even if we go 2 and out in our own regional. But, disappointing YES, especially with our lack of coaching and ruining all of our pitchers performance.

MSU baseball program is legendary. THE mecca of college baseball. There are no “rebuilds” in college sports today. We should be DOMINATING this sport. We absolutely did NOT this season… so far. Hopefully we’ve been saving it all for the finish.
