Man…I really want to feel confident in our starting pitching heading into the NCAAT. But it looks as shaky as it has at any point this year. We are VERY lucky to only be down 3-2. They hit the ball as hard off DeCaro that inning as he’s ever been hit in three years. Thank God the park is actually playing bigger today.

Our defense is elite. 2 terrific plays by the outfield to minimize damage in what could've been a complete disaster of an inning.

This guy isn’t great, but we’re sure making him look like

Would have loved to have put some runners on and driven the pitch count up at least.
He’s thrown 68 pitches in 3 innings, the pitch count has been drove up. He’s got really good stuff today, just hasn’t been in the zone consistently. We’re fine.

Shortest outing for DeCaro since April 3 against Boston College... excluding the staff day against Duke during the exam period

Starting pitching has to be somewhat of a concern heading into regionals, given the lack of length Decaro and Lynch have provided this year. Glauber and McDuffie have been excellent out of the pen, but I worry they'll run out of gas, as McDuffie did last year. Offense is going to need to mash next weekend, considering Forbes has shown two years in a row that he'll punt on the Sunday game to be set up for a Monday night winner-take-all.

Some people complained about DeCaro not winning ACC pitcher of the year. He averaged 5 innings per conference start. That's not what you see from guys who win conference and national awards. Yes, his ERA was better than Mendes but there's value in throwing 20% more innings even if the ERA is a little higher.

Why? They want as many guys to get live action on the mound as possible. Need to win today to do that and need to not try to make Jason grind through innings. Glauber is our best bullpen arm, he gives us the best chance to win today.
Because our ace just had a 3.1 IP, 3 R (at least) start in his last start before the NCAA tournament.
