No, share the details...
City high player Ashley joens her dad was a psychopath and from what everything that has come out main reason why bluder didn’t recruit her. His behavior became so bad pollard had to sit next to him at games. Which is ironic considering pollard got the boot at his kids HS game once. The dad got kicked out of game during covid at carver because he refused to sit in his assigned seat.

That’s the frustration. Unfortunately most media especially local afraid if they do report they get black balled by coach or program and hurts them further by doing their job. Been the gripe by many over the years for lack of criticism of Ferentz or during the whole Brian fiasco. Maybe not even lack of criticism but refusal to ask the difficult questions.

Stop.

The team with Weezy and the Murray's started 4 guards.

Yes, Weezy was listed as a guard.

Was Fredrick not starting at Kentucky for a while? Clearly, injuries got the best of him.

Connor led the nation in assist/TO ratio, that season.

And, although JBo was certainly polarizing, there are places that would have welcomed his numbers

You are trying a little too hard. Maybe mix in some decaf. I don’t believe I can control whether people feel they have an investment in how CC lives her life. Fairly certain I haven’t expressed an opinion either way.
I did have to chuckle at your

‘it’s your place to decide whose posts are good or not worthy for your consumption’

Ummmm, am I expected to ask you ‘hey, is this post worthy for my to consume?’ Ask others on the board?
How about I just continue to decide what I want to read. It’s a solid approach that has been working well for me. Nice effort on your part. Keep trying.
Oh, I certainly think you should be the one deciding what you want to read. That's not the point though is it. You said I'd never made a good post. That's not you deciding what YOU want to read, that's YOU making a judgement on what is and what is not a solid post, AND then posting your opinion. I give you the benefit of the doubt that you know very well those are two entirely different things.

I attended a game a couple of years ago involving IC West. Jack McC was their star player. The game was very close, a foul was called on Jack, who proceeded to yell F*** Off to the official, was given a tech foul. Fran and Marg went bananas, screaming at the refs.
The next 8-10 min, all calls went in favor of IC West and they won easy.

Last year, I attended a game and Kent McCausland was there to watch his son. I think it was Waterloo West and his son Jay were playing. Kent was very reserved and only cheered quietly for his son and team. This was refreshing to see. He carried himself with class.
The good ole boys network at IC West was never happier than when the last McCaffery graduated from IC West. I talked to an administrator and support staff and they all have the same opinions of the McCaffery's and "suprise", it isn't good. It was funny to watch them all walking on eggshells around the family and as you said berating officials - though none of the people "in charge" ever had the balls to say anything to them about their behaviors.

I haven’t told anyone not to read your posts. I just don’t think they are very good. We can agree to disagree. It’s okay. People disagree with me plenty. I have learned that I am the leading expert on my opinion.
Hopefully you are steering clear of sharp objects, with your thin skin there is a risk

These stories have been around for years, just not in the media. There were a lot of posters who claimed Iowa basketball fans were bad fans for not filling carver consistently and supporting Fran's program despite minimal ncaa tourney success. Those posters know who they are. I guess we will find out in the coming years if Iowa bball has bad fans or not

Thank you, Beth

See and that's exactly the point. You continue to make comments (based on your opinion) about someone you know nothing about. You might want to get in front of that reflective glass thing by the way, when you're accusing someone of being thin skinned. Or maybe you just think your humorous....

I always wonder what Coach Heller’s talks with his assistant baseball coaches were like when Connor was on the team and played that one seaon. “Like, guys, I know Connor’s our worst field player and barely batting his weight, but you really want me to piss off Fran and bench him??”

They liked Connor and got along with him fine. One of my best friends is on that staff

Well yea, but he was awful at iowa playing baseball and basketball. And if he wasn’t the basketball coaches’ son do you think Heller would have put up with his underwhelming baseball performance for so long? I think we know the answer.

He hit .240 which isn't awful. Played one year of actual competition - I suppose you think it would have been appropriate for the coach to just kick him off the team? Since he likely did not take one penny of their allotted scholarship money for the roster, I think he probably held his own as far as value to the team.

My dad once got roped into being a home plate umpire for a little league game because, surprise surprise, no one else wanted to do it. Well, he got heckled a lot regarding his strike zone and he never did it again.

That's the problem now a days. No one wants to officiate because they don't want to put up with the BS that comes with it.

Remember when Kentucky lost an NCAA tournament game and Kentucky fans blamed one official for the loss? Well, that one official had his own business. Kentucky fans then went to google and started giving his business 1 star ratings and writing a bunch of untruths.

I do chuckle at times. You are allowing your emotions to drive your posts. That is thin skinned. I don’t do that.
It is a message board. People post opinions. With no opinions there is no need for message boards. You got bent out of shape because people posted their opinion. They didn’t use ‘I think’ to clearly demonstrate that it is their opinion.

I have posted an opinion about your posting. I have posted an opinion on your reaction. The sharp objects/thin skin did make me chuckle.
I have voiced zero opinions about you as a person. I don’t know you, heck you may be an awesome person and fun to hang out with but I have no idea so I haven’t said anything about you.
If anonymous opinions about your posts drive your emotions that is a you thing. It hasn’t been and won’t be personal.

Skip ahead to the 44:00 mark and watch/listen to the 12 minute discussion.

Another Margaret heckling example.

Also, Scott says that the radio crew wasn't allowed to eat (and sometimes fly) with the team.

Check this out & watch:

Part of Fran/Margaret's issues with Dolph is that he gave some good seats to Wisconsin fans in Carver.. they allegedly heckled Margaret and Iowa players.

I vaguely remember that. Not sure about the heckling, but I remember hearing Fran being pissed that Wisconsin fans were sitting in prime seats and wondering how they got access to those prime seats.

Interesting. So, enlighten me. Is being "thin skinned" as you put it, not a personal trait? If so, would calling someone thin skinned not be having an opinion about them as a person?

You obviously don’t follow college baseball! Batting .238 in college is a lot different than in MLB.

That story is so overblown. Where was the outrage when Mike Tyson, Marshawn Lynch, and Myles Garrett walked out with him? Where is the outrage for athletes who hang out with Drake or Chris Brown?

There is a group of people looking to tear CC down for anything and everything she does. She should do what she wants and smile all the way to the bank.

I mean I have judged every single person that has decided to associate with that loser

Yeah, Lickliter was a low bar to clear. Even with what I said about Fran and the program, he won all of 4 NCAA games in a decade and a half, which is nothing to jump up and down about. Ben won almost that many in a single tournament... Then there is the topic of this thread, regarding the McCafferys as people. Not sorry that they're gone.

Barta.... Man, I shudder to think of what things would look like if he was still here. More than likely, Brian Ferentz would still be the OC and Fran would still be coaching the hoops program.

Most coaches when zero

All 4 head coaches from the four Iowa DI MBB programs attended the recent Coaches vs Cancer charity event, where they raised over $700,000. Keith Murphy, from WHO TV, was the emcee after a 8 year absence.

Why was Keith absent for the last 8 years?

Well, in 2018, Keith pointed out on his "Murphy’s Law" TV segment that Fran had gotten an unnecessary new contract extension (deal was signed on Nov 29, 2017) when Fran wasn’t going anywhere and then Gary Barta did not make it public. Scott Dochterman had to do a FOIA to get the details of the contract extension (the details were revealed on January 25, 2018). Keith’s commentary was that if you think that highly of your head coach to give him more years & more money, you should make it public and not hide it from the public. Instead, Gary, Fran, etc. tried to keep the extension quiet because Iowa was off to a bad start during the 2017-18 season.

Here was Keith's commentary:

Well, Fran & Margaret did not take Keith's commentary well at all. When Keith & Andy Fales asked about the extension at the time it became public, Fran got all defensive and pissed off from the questioning.

That disappointing 2017-18 season then ended (Iowa went 14-19) & then the May, 2018 Coaches vs Cancer (C vs C) event occurred with Keith again as the emcee. At the event, Fran & Margaret avoided Keith entirely (no handshakes, no nothing). They both were still very pissed off at Keith.

Margaret, incredibly, started heckling Keith from the audience. At a cancer fundraising event.

At no time prior did Keith ever say that Fran should be fired. However, Margaret then took the stage and said “thank you for welcoming me, unlike our emcee here, who wants my husband fired.” After the heckling and then Margaret saying that, Keith said everyone in the audience was uncomfortable AT A CANCER FUNDRAISING CHARITY EVENT. Keith tried to go up to Fran & Margaret & talk to them but Fran & Margaret avoided Keith. Keith then called the Iowa athletic dept to set up a time to speak to Fran and clear the air. Fran refused to meet with Keith.

Fran would never again appear on the “Murph and Andy” radio show. Listeners wanted to know why Fran never appeared and Keith “wanted to put a sock in it” and would not explain why.

Fran then insisted that Keith stop being invited to emcee the C vs C event. Fran told the organizers that “if you want me to participate in this [moving forward], you find another emcee.”

Keith’s wife was pissed off after hearing Fran's demand but Keith reminded her that it was not “Emcee vs Cancer.” It was “Coaches vs Cancer” and Fran had to be there. The C vs C folks were put in an impossible spot so Keith bowed out and got replaced starting in May, 2019. Keep in mind that this has always been a Friday night, unpaid gig for the emcee. Fran wanted Keith gone & he got what he wanted.

With Fran fired and Ben the new head man, the C vs C folks asked Keith to come back and emcee the event this year.

Keith starts getting emotional talking about all of this at the 51 minute mark in the video that follows.

They then bring up and discuss that Fran & Margaret tried to get Gary Dolphin fired TWICE.

Wow. Just freakin’ wow.

Skip ahead to the 44:00 mark and watch/listen to the 12 minute discussion.

LOL. Remember when I posted that Dochterman found the extension out on the old Rivals board? He's a sleuth, all right.

Murray's did not have many offers per some podcast I heard. Looked up Keegan, not much to get excited about.

Fran & Margaret tried to get Gary fired on 2 different occasions:

* In November 2018, Dolphin found himself in hot water after he criticized the program’s recruiting efforts and made comments directed at Iowa guard Maishe Dailey that inadvertently made it to air during a commercial break.

“How do we not get anybody like that?” Dolphin said. “We just don’t -- year after year. Just get one. We get Maishe Dailey. Dribbles into a double team with his head down. God.”

* On Feb 21, 2019, Gary referred to Maryland’s Bruno Fernando as “King Kong” during the closing moments of the game. Hawkeye Sports Properties, the multimedia rights manager for Iowa’s athletic department, then announced that Dolphin would be suspended for the rest of the season.

I remember this and thinking please Bobby don't say anything back to him.

Post game show(s) answers were one word answers back to Dolph. High tension.

Why because he said out loud what everyone was thinking?

Not saying Dolph was wrong to be thinking what he was thinking.

But if the pbp announcer for a team is caught on a hot mic saying "We need to recruit better that way we don't have to play (insert player name here)" then I'd be willing to bet 99% of college coaches would be upset.

Hey the UofI has done their share of bone head mistakes.

Giving out free red/white pompoms to Iowa fans at a Wisconsin football game. Of course their were some Iowa fans that used them the whole game.

Selling a bunch of discount tickets to some student group at a basketball game only to watch them all take off their coats at tip off to reveal they were the orange crush.

I actually played college baseball. And you? I simply stated hitting .240 isn’t awful especially for a part time starter. But carry on.
Tell me where you played college baseball. Can’t wait for this one. Part time starter? He started 22 games because he couldn’t hit. His average would have been the worst on the team this year and Iowa isn’t even good.

Probably an underrated stat, actually
The "assist-to-turnover ratio" is widely considered an overrated metric in basketball
  • Ignores Usage and Style: Primary ball-handlers who drive into traffic or make high-risk passes will naturally have more turnovers. A player's role in a specific offense dictates these risks, making raw ratios deceptive when comparing different play styles.
  • Not All Turnovers Are Created Equal: The formula treats a dropped inbound pass or a ball-handling mistake identically to a bad pass.
  • Ignores Scoring Leverage: The ratio tells you nothing about the quality of the assists. It views all successful passes as equal, ignoring whether the assist created a wide-open corner three or a difficult, contested mid-range shot.

Didn't Bobby respond with "yeah" to Gary's Maishe Dailey comments? (to indicate that he agreed)

Also, I forgot that Al Lorenzen was nicknamed the "vanilla gorilla."

From the linked story:

In November 2018, Dolphin found himself in hot water after he criticized the program’s recruiting efforts and made comments directed at Iowa guard Maishe Dailey that inadvertently made it to air during a commercial break.

“How do we not get anybody like that?” Dolphin said. “We just don’t -- year after year. Just get one. We get Maishe Dailey. Dribbles into a double team with his head down. God.”

Coach Fran McCaffery called Dolphin’s comments about Dailey “inexcusable,” and this incident could further inflame tensions between the two.

Al Lorenzen, who played for Iowa in the 1980s, was dubbed “the Vanilla Gorilla,” by ESPN commentator Dick Vitale.

“In the P.C. era that we all live in today, (the nickname) wouldn’t have been OK,” Lorenzen said. “Let’s be real. As a white male, I don’t have the right to be offended in our culture today.”
