Great WR who makes the struggle catches and gains extra yards . Its a crime he only has 8 TDs after 2 years but that's RU offense for you.

I’m amped for KJ after listening to these guys breakdown his game. Plaxico comp is dead on and even Mike Evans comp fits.

If KJ has a big year and runs 4.5 in combine, he’s a definite 1st rounder.

GO RU

If he runs 4.5 he’s a top 10 pick. High 4.5 to 4.6 with a big year and he’s a first rounder

Part of that is Strong having 10 TDs in that time frame, and Sheffield/Miller had 9. so Between our 1,2, and 3 WRs we had 27 receiving TDs in 2 seasons. That's not a bad stat at all.

I think the refs could have legit called a couple of pass interference calls in every game KJ played last season.

GO RU

RU's stats always have weaknesses imo

Indiana's top 3 receivers over 2 years had 41 TDs in regular seasons without playoffs included.
Last year Omar Cooper and Elijah Sarratt alone had 34 TDs in a passing game with less ypg than RU (266 vs 239).
So Indy's top 2 in one year beat RU's top 3 for 2 years

Indy's top 3 receivers in 2025 had 26 TDs and RU had 17.
Especially telling is that Strong had 5 TDs in 2025 but 2 were against Miami of Ohio, and 3 were against Maryland who was in an 8 game losing streak at the time. Strong should have scored in more than 2 games vs weak teams. Duff for his part practically vanished vs Ohio St, Oregon and Maryland with 7 receptions 0 TDs. Indy players didn't vanish

I could see where Strong might have wanted to leave after having 52 catches for 762 yds per game but TDs in only 2 games vs weak opponents. Duff had 60 receptions for 1084 yds and 7TDs and is being called a first round pick.

As usual I think the problem is that RU cant score. Its not because of NIL either. Guys like Strong and Duf are built and skilled for RZ production. They both have size, strength and great hands with circus catch proclivity - they dunked on DBs. Duff and Strong should have had another combined 5-7 TDs last year. Cooper and Sarratt are great receivers but I don't think either is better than Duff and Strong is no slouch compared to them. Indy had coaches who knew how to score and didn't play timid

Context: Rutgers used ball control to shorten the game. That meant relying more on the run game than passing. This approach covered up for a weak defense and allowed Rutgers to attempt to keep the game close. This concept goes unnoticed by those who are more concerned about making a point without having a grasp of the game and an understanding of different teams' schemes.

Yes Greg's offensive philosophy hasn't been hard to figure out since 2001. I like running and clock eating but you still have to score. RU's red zone is cripped every year and even GS will mention it (" we've got to get it fixed" in 2007 after a 31-3 WV shellacking with no RU TDs despite having Rice). RU gains a lot of empty calorie yards between the 20s and then in the red zone (and on goal) RU goes cold. Britt and Underwood had 1000 yds each one year and it was mostly between the 20s, Britt had 2 RZ TDs for his career

The Oregon Ducks fan site did a nice job of analyzing RU passing in 2025 and they saw what everyone has seen with Rutgers

"Duck Tape: Film Analysis of Rutgers Football 2025"

Offense:

"With a passing game this strong, it’s a wonder the Scarlet Knights are ever stopped. There are a series of interlocking issues culminating in one major problem however, which has kept them from blowing out opponents and remining undefeated.

...as we discussed on the podcast, there’s also more to it, and the extra parts are baffling to the both of us -- is that Rutgers gets stopped completely dead in the redzone. They can look amazing between the 20s but as soon as they cross the opponent’s 20 yardline (actually I can pinpoint where the per-play effectiveness and a-EPA begins its collapse at the 31), everything falls apart....

Numerically, the offense goes from a 57.6% per-play efficiency between the 20s to a 44.1% efficiency inside the 20. A small part of that is a falloff in rushing efficiency, by about four points -- fairly natural, as defenses compress -- while the major part is that passing efficiency collapses an astonishing 21 percentage points, from 57.8% outside to 36.8% inside.

As such, Rutgers has only converted 16 of its 27 meaningful redzone trips in FBS play to touchdowns, a 59.3% rate. For context, global efficiency is usually coincidental enough for F+ advanced statistics that having a 70% redzone touchdown conversion rate goes hand-in-hand with a top-30 ranking. That’s basically true this year (it’s actually top 33, the service academies are hyperefficient outliers), but there are four teams who are F+ darlings outside the redzone and so are highly rated offenses in that system, but are under 61% in redzone efficiency and so my model is very skeptical of them finishing the season strong: Illinois, Kansas, Texas Tech … and Rutgers.

RU WRs had ALL the tools to be great in the RZ but alas - the condom offense means thafty firtht

I know Rutgers has major issues with their offense, but most are the result of a bad defense. Can't take chances and that's a disservice to the talent on offense. It impacts play calling. Schiano is the type to reduce risk in the red zone by assuring they always come away with at least 3 points no matter what. That's a poor mindset.

Rutgers' red zone offense has sucked for a long long time and even when defense was good. Its been the biggest problem Schiano has and he never gets over it and never will it seems.

2007 with Britt, Rice, Underwood, McCourtys, Westerman, Renkart, Girault, Greene, Malast, Abareu, Freeney and other good defenders.

Notes: Rutgers bombs in red zone Nov. 04, 2007,

It was the ongoing red-zone failures, with Rutgers' offense managing four field goals, one touchdown and coming up empty one time for its six trips inside the Huskies' 20-yard line.

"It's tough when you go out and execute the way that you want to and the way you're supposed to ... something's got to give. We've got to get something fixed and get it quick," Teel said. "We're not executing. The bottom line is we're not doing the things we did to get us in that position (of being in the red zone). When you get in the red zone you can't have stupid mistakes that are going to set you back."

Teel's numbers were what they needed to be for the Knights to have a chance to win, since he finished 32-of-52 for 343 yards with one meaningless, late-game interception.

Overall, the offense managed 511 yards, with Ray Rice recording the 21st 100-yard game of his career with 116 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries.

"Statistics mean nothing," head coach Greg Schiano said. "Playing the game and winning the game, that's what it is about.

"We need to figure it out quickly. We put up 500 yards of offense and can't score when you get in the red zone? That's an issue."
