Here is my honest opinion, based on NOT having attended practices. Anyone listen to his shows and interviews? He literally can't answer a simple question. He beats around the bush, and likes to hear himself explain the things he doesn't know anything about. You can't tell me the practices are no different. Players want to run plays NOW. They don't to stand listening to someone go on and on and on. I have a very strong feeling that the vast majority of his practice time is anything but.
There were a TONNNNNN of people happy to see Cal step down and get "one of our own!" I was against it. Now I can say I was right!
I've heard from other coaches that have watched a Rick Barnes practice and a Pope practice and no comparison in what goes on. The only thing different is that Pope comes up to the crowd and tells them how much of an analytical mastermind he is on offense.
We treated Calipari the last few years like we have treated Pope. Calipari had options and said screw it. Pope doesn’t have those options. Regardless, our patience in this new era will not result in good relationship with whoever follows.
