Somebody let me know if the match is starting indoors or outdoors. I’m trying to decide whether or not to go. I prefer outdoors.

Anna got benched for Singles. Clear lack effort in her last two matches.

She must be hitting the freshman wall or the other teams have figured out her game now. I hope she can regain her confidence, form, etc. moving forward.

After her lackluster performance Friday, it probably was a good call. Although she did get the nod in doubles over Oby (on SR day). It seems like they are rotating in doubles between Oby and Anna and I might be mistaken but it seems like they are trying to keep all 7 singles players in the mix: Ga Tech- Oby out doubles, Anna out singles. Clemson and Duke; Anna out of doubles. UVA- Hammy out of singles. VA Tech- Oby out singles and doubles.

I think it is a smart move by Brian and his coaching staff. Trying to keep everyone's confidence up.

We have a history of rotating players when we have 7+ good enough to start. I would not read too much in who sits, even vs competitive opponents in the regular season.

Right. As usual, we have more than 6 legit starters and should rotate to keep everyone fresh. We know we have an incredible top 3. Zampardo is a luxury at 4 or 5. I like the Hamilton and Rabman singles results recently at the back of the lineup. Frey maybe hitting a bit of a wall but will get more chances in the final 2 matches, ACCs, and first two rounds of NCAA’s to see if it’s just a blip.

Heels lose FIVE first sets. We have a lot of ground to make up here. Brantmeier is cruising to a win. Everyone else needs to get to third set.

I wonder if when it comes down to it the lineup is Reese/Oby/Tatum/Alanis/Maddy/Thea

#8 UVA goes undefeated in the ACC regular season, going 12-0 in conference matches.

#5 UNC finshes 2nd at 11-1

UNC beat UVA back in Jan 6-1 indoors at home, but then lost at UVA 3-4 two weeks ago during the ACC season fielding the same 6 players (we added Zampardo and there was some shuffling by both teams.)

The ACC Women's Tennis Championship is in Cary this week.

There is a play in game tomorrow (why? leave one team at home), all full slate of double digit seeds on Wed, etc.. The top four seeds play the 1st time on Friday, all earning double byes. UNC plays at 6 PM.

2 seed #5 UNC should match up with 7 seed #24 Clemson on Friday
3 seed #14 NCSU should match up vs 6 seed #23 Cal
should the top seeds win, we will play NCSU on Sat at 2 pm. We beat them 4-3 in a nail-biter indoors in January, but that was not a conference game. we did not play them in conference this year. Zampardo did not play in that match.

The other side of the bracket will likely pair 4 seed #22 dook and 1 seed UVA on Saturday also at 2 PM.

The championship is at 2 pm on Sunday.

I was expecting a lot more from this team. Just don't look like NCAA title contender.

Reese blows 4 MPs I believe and loses. Maddy battled back and was in a 3rd set breaker after also blowing 2 MPs

Reese got beat by #43. ewww
her opponent played very well but reese made way too many errors. i think her left wrist is bothering her which affects her two handed backhand. she's wearing a pretty good sized brace on it. reese was very emotional after losing. was still crying into her towel at the back of the court when i left, several minutes after the match. 4 match points in the second set, with one of them being a doublefault. ouch.

the entire team match lasted almost 4 hours in some pretty extreme heat for this time of the year.

Man, seems like that had a bad day overall. Sometimes you win some and sometimes you don't. Just one of those days. Hopefully, the team can rest, recharge, and get ready for the NCAAT. Go Heels!

“The girls were motivated today,” Earnshaw said. “When you’re playing against a ghost transfer, it does wonders for your motivation.”

Earnshaw is so butt hurt over Maddy transferring here.

NCAA D1 is 66% international players for women's tennis, the highest of any sport in either gender.

Round of 16 we should face the #18 ITA ranked Michigan vs #14 Florida winner. Florida got screwed a bit here by not getting to host.

The #4 seed is Texas A&M which is a pretty rough draw for us in the quarterfinals. They are ranked #3 by ITA, #2 by UTR and were runners-up last year. They have the ITA #1 player in 22-0 Lucciana Perez 11.42 UTR (Brantmeier is #2 at 24-2, 11.22 UTR) They outrank us in UTR at all 6 singles spots.

UGA is the #1 overall seed, so we in theory could face them in the Semis if they defeat the #8 seed TX vs #9 seed NCSU winner in the quarters

This team underachieved. Call it what it is. They made the final four last year and won ACC with a weaker roster last season.

Roster has been submitted.

Singles
1. Reese
2. Oby
3. Evans
4. Zampardo
5. Hamilton
6. Frey

Doubles
1. Reese/Hamilton
2. Zampardo/Maltby
3. Evans/Frey

I guess you are right in a way, although it’s pretty defeatist attitude. We’re the 5-seed.

To me, we should win doubles pretty much every time but we haven’t…really not sure why. That will probably be why we lose if we do.

1-3 is amazing. 4-6 has been unsettled, inconsistent. That’s different than prior years.

Our formula is win doubles plus 3 from 1-3 plus Zampardo. It’s a slim margin of error against the top 10 teams. I wouldn’t be too surprised if we won it all, or if we lost in the quarters.

Look at the rosters in women's tennis among the top teams: they are now bringing in international pro-level players and paying them enough where it is a great value proposition for their development.

College can offer housing, education, training, coaching, facilities, medical and transportation that pro players usually have to pay for on their own. Thus it only takes a modest NIL offer on top of that to find a few ringers willing to go this route. Because most mid-to-low tier pros lose money annually because of the expenses listed above. Especially when they are starting out. And with new NIL rules, they still have access to sponsorships, and can play on the pro circuit all summer and often the fall as well.

Just a couple of years ago there used to be maybe 2 or 3 college players with a UTR above 11. Now there are 15:

UNC did not get worse; the top SEC teams got better. Auburn has four players in the top 20. LSU has 3. 17 of the top 20 players are SEC, which used to be an afterthought in women's tennis.

I wonder if NIL money has something to do with those SEC teams that got better in such a hurry.
