What’s with Coleman? He was a high volume player who basically was auditioning to get out a couple weeks in

It would be the same thing all over again.

I really don’t want a jacker coming back. This team won’t be built on talent. It’ll need to win via the sum of its parts.
What about his freshman year? He was a great 6th man

We need size. This kid is 6’9 and comes with at least some background that makes it seem he offers more than a pulse. Whether this is a Bediako/Payne find, or a Baby Jokic/Baby Mamu/Okafor scenario is TBD. I’m not going to start comparing him to NeNe, but I’m not going to s&&& on it either.

In the meantime I’m happy we got some size on the roster.

The door is sometimes open for kids who leave, and I try not to unfairly beat on those who leave via FA. That said, lots of smoke around Coleman that IMO would make me keep that door closed. Our insiders including Dan have said he wasn’t team first, selfish, had a foot out the door early in the season and deliberately didn’t defend or do what Sha wanted so he could chase offensive stats and &$ from another school. Seems to me it would be pretty desperate for Sha to take him back, and I don’t know if that type of situation works for Sha anyway.

I’m wondering if this is a signing Holloway did in order to get another guy.

In other words, some players want to see some semblance of a team before they commit. Especially in this one-year contract climate.

So getting a guy like this for depth reasons and experience and strength by being 23 could be attractive for younger players to play alongside with.

IDC this is what Nil has opened up. We literally got a G-league experienced player lol. It is decent talent to pick up.

Wow surprised on Coleman
Why are people surprised? He was our best player, good teammate, Sha really liked him. He was a pleasure to have on the team for 2 years.

@Halldan made up some nonsense that Coleman didn’t play defense, chucked shots, and asked for a ridiculous amount of money. I just hope he keeps the same energy for Clark, Simpkins, Hines, etc all asked for more. Simpkins asked for 7 figures LOL

Never thought I'd see the day where we got a G-League castoff on the team. Then again, we've crossed a lot of "never thought I'd see" lines in the last handful of years when it comes to college sports. Can't blame someone for being skeptical, but perhaps it ends up being a good move for both parties. Definitely thinking outside the box, and I believe that is needed.

We shall see....

Had 27 & 10 for Brazil at the Global Jam last August vs Canadian DI athletes, two of which played for UF and Bama. 🤷‍♂️
It's difficult to get a read on this kid but the fact that he has international experience and is coming in as a 23-year old who was given an Exhibit 10 contract to play in the G-league is interesting. This game vs Canada is an impressive result. I searched for a video of the game but have not found it yet but the fact that he dominated the Canadian U23 team in this game is very promising. No one on either team scored more than 16 points but Mariano had 27, 10 & 5 Blocks.

Canada's team was filled with high D-1 players who averaged double-figures this year. Their frontcourt had Michael Nwoko (LSU), Elijah Mayi (Santa Clara), Enoch Boakye (Nova) and more with Aden Holloway, Xavian Lee and Vasean Allette in the backcourt. Brasil won 85-78 with Mariano taking over the game. You have to have some ability to take over a game against good competition.

From watching his highlights, he reminds me of a young Tyrese Samuel. 6'9" 220 pound Forward who has 3-pt range, runs the floor well, can handle the ball a bit and is good at driving to the rim when he has some space. Shows some agility and skill in the post but he looks like a pick and pop, pick and roll type who can also sit in the corner and hit an open 3. Is a decent weakside shotblocker, can't really evaluate his rebounding or overall defense.

Samuel was talented but was underwhelming his first 3 years at SH. He didn't become a good, reliable player until his Senior year under Sha. Sha played him at the 5 and forced him to play inside. Can Sha get Mariano to buy into using his size and agility to score more inside and not spend most of his time on the perimeter? If so, he might be a useful player. Pleased to see us dipping into the international pool and G-League pool.

Video looks impressive. I see great size, length, and athleticism, and looks to have some ability to handle the ball, shoot the ball, post up, run the fast break, and some general smoothness with the basketball. Clearly he's not a stiff.

Only question is how the competition in that video would translate to the Big East and high D1 ball. No clue what the answer is but having G League experience and dominating a Canadian team loaded with D1 talent is a good sign.

At 6'9 I think he will see a lot of time at the C position.

Coleman is a 27% 3PT 2 guard. His last year here, he did stop playing D. He started the year with 57 minutes against Fordham and Hofstra and he scored 11 points in those two terrible losses. He "led" the team to a five-game losing streak, and followed that up with a 7 and 9 game streak. Anyone watching saw what he was doing, and that was padding his scoring stats to get a big payday and he did. Look at those results, along with what happened in Ok St. Scoring points does not make him a great player.

And don't forget Coleman unable to follow clear instructions against Fordham on the last defensive play of the game and literally escorting his offensive man to his spot on the floor, giving up the game winning shot.

Scoring is the most important thing in basketball….especially at seton hall. Do you want to be the worst offensive team again?

He led the team to a 5 game losing streak?? He was a sophomore asked to do everything surrounded by players that barely play at mid majors LOL

15 & 5 as a soph is terrible ?

Remember he shot better than Clark from the field, 3, & ft as a soph
Barrett,

Isaiah Coleman
2024-25, Off/Def Efficiency, Miya Off/Def Rating = 100.4/108.7, 0.30/1.39 = 1.69
2025-26, Off/Def Efficiency, Miya Off/Def Rating = 101.0/112.5, -0.08/0.92 = 0.84

Bud Clark
2025-26, Off/Def Efficiency, Miya Off / Def Rating = 103.6/100.8, 2.65/2.86 = 5.50

Coleman is not good and should be playing in the MAAC.
