If he comes here it’s to be a DEEP bench piece. That’s obvious to anyone not looking for a reason to be mad. What harm is having a 7’5 guy as your 12th man? Florida did it just this past season, it’s a risk you take in case you can develop him.
The 7’9” dude at Florida was a freshman with no prior CBB experience. Which is why he was cool with knowing he wouldn’t get any minutes this season.

This guy will be a senior used to being regular rotation player in a major power conference. I really doubt he’s looking to spend his final season just sitting with the walk-ons.

Then he won’t be here. Staff is targeted him only as a deep bench piece not a rotational player. The reason he might come is he is from Independence Kentucky and grew up a UK fan. He knows the value of playing here then moving into a career within the state.

How is this the first time I’m hearing about a 7’5” player from Kentucky?
Because he wasn’t dominating in HS. I saw him play a couple times. He was ok but mostly against guys no bigger than 6-5” or 6-6”.

Saw someone mention Jared Carter…probably a decent comparison but Carter was stronger physically.

Yep, especially if he plans to move back to Kentucky after college.

Makes sense for him,if he were to come here; especially with the 5th year rule in play now.

I don’t hate it, it really depends on if you think Reece Potter will actually play. I have been thinking Reece Potter is a practice player but if he can actually contribute this year then you need someone to replace him on the practice squad.
I have seen them both play and Dynes is half a foot taller, and a better player than Potter. Did you not ever watch Dynes when he played at Northern Kentucky ? e is s serviceable player. He can catch lobs and dunk the ball and block shots.

We already have 7’1 Potter, maybe this guy wants to come and redshirt? That’s the only reason I could see him coming here. I wouldn’t give much NIL for him.
He is a better player than Potter. He is a Kentucky kid from Independence, and he has been a starter at a NCAA division 1 basketball team. He is much better than you people making fun of him think. Most of you have never eve

We aren’t saying he’s not a quality player relative to everyone who plays basketball, but when you get into the SEC at Kentucky you can’t be bad compared to your peers. It’s not that he can’t play at all. It’s that if we want to compete with the best then he isn’t it. You cannot be in a competitive game shooting 35% from the line, he would just clog the paint on offense.

He probably isn’t the best passer either with those monster hands, it’s why they have such a tough time shooting. The ball is so small compared to his hands.

He moves well. I’m perplexed why Pope wants 100 players again though. I guess he loves to make odd substitutions.
15 scholarships - giving a 7-5 Kentucky kid who has played at YOUNGSTOWN ST & USC $250K & a uniform is a “No Brainer”.

Why do people in this thread keep claiming that he played at NKU (with one even seemingly claiming to have a watched him play there)?

He did not. His prior school was Youngstown State.

He has 1 year left? Might be handy on in bounds plays. Jus sayin.

I was dead set against this until doing a deep dive on him. For 7'5 he has decent footwork and mobility.
He could potentially provide a nice spark for lobs and block shots. Definitely need him or Devin Williams.

I think he's a practice player. If he can play spot minutes that's a plus honestly. People contribute to winning even if they aren't in the game. There are other ways to help the team.

He runs well and blocks shots. That's about all you can ask from a guy 7'5.

Native of Independence, KY and Simon Kenton high school. Get him a sheet, Come Home Gabe.

If 7'5" is good then 7'9" is better. Let's get the Florida giant
Really no comparison, I didn’t know anything about this guy so I looked at his highlight videos. Unlike the Florida kid, this guy actually moves pretty good for a 7’5 guy. And unlike our big guys from last year, he knows how to dunk the ball. I don’t mind him as a backup. Also he’s good at pick and rolls, that’s probably why they’re looking at him. Isn’t Zoom supposed to be one of the best pick and roll guards?
