Maybe players watch Pope get blown out in big time games and doubt his coaching ability. Maybe Pope connects with players fine but since he has no track record of success and doesn’t have any record of building pros, they choose a different coach. This would be an even worse and more likely scenario. Pope isn’t the devil, just a terrible coach.

Another pope hate thread. Byu has gotten more players because after pope they had boosters they never had and got an NBA tied coach. They had aj last year and lost in first round. First year he seemed to connect fine. To pope haters if we do bad this year you should be happy because he will be gone. Pope 19-20 and year before coming to Kentucky they did pretty well.
The whole connecting with kids is coming from jaspers uncle. He is who butthurt from money. It is putting that stigma out there though. You have a guy like Todd golden who stalks girls who don't have same bad stigma. Plus alot of recruiting folk are mad because they aren't getting inside info. The same folks when cal was at his best and talking to media about everything weren't putting bad things out.
The more people say bad I do want to defend because I honestly don't know one way or another. I know if you miss out on player a you have to find the right back up and not settle for a crap one. Plenty of players and we settled for bad back up options.

I know people listen to the propaganda in the media concerning UK’s NIL situation, and they act like it’s all good and well, but…

How is it UofL and Pat Kelsey are landing top recruit after top recruit, yet powerhouse UK has to settle on everyone else’s leftovers?

The only logical answer is, it has to be NIL, or lack thereof!

Pat Kelsey isn’t some HOF coach (yet), and UofL isn’t exactly the Boston Celtics of MCBB, so what’s the missing piece?

It is probably a combination of things. It is the wild west out there and we aren't privy to what is happening in negotiations with agents. There are no employment contracts, just piles of money and NDAs with NIL being used as a fig leaf for what is actually happening. This is a worst case scenario for college basketball in the long run.

Basically Pope is connecting fine, I don’t think that is the problem. Most players that have played for him seem to like him. Imagine being a college player and you have two scenarios.

A. Good money, coach with no record of winning, coach with no NBA ties or players, Mark Fox, national TV blowouts, questionable dependence on analytics rather than gut, know substitution patterns and limited minutes. Zoom offense. JMI

B. A little less money with and record of success, even a conference tournament final, guaranteed on minutes and position. No JMI,

It would be a decision for sure.

If the offer is more than or equal to other schools then it's the coach. No other way to put it.

Sad thing is UK is changing their recruiting prospective (BLUEprint) to account for Pope rather than saying maybe we need a coach who can land the top targets.

The problem right now IMO is last season. We supposedly had a great portal and the most expensive roster. We completely **** the bed and the media ran with the "biggest disappointment in CB" narrative. We are a plague ship right now and it's scaring off guys that would have gladly signed here this time last year. The fault for last year lies with Pope, his staff and the team. The damage is done and only a season of overachieving can help if there's anything other than a new coach. I hate it too.

I know it won’t happen but what if fans just stop going to games… watch from home until a change is made or whatever the problem is gets fixed? It’s going to take a lot for the most loyal fans in the sports, that I know.

Probably is the coach, but there are a Lot of weird coaches out there than bring in recruits. I mean Hurley is a seriously weird dude. I think besides money, winning talks. And they just don't see winning much with Pope....rightly or wrongly.
