IOWA will be spending over $10M on the 2026-27 Roster. Who will Ben land? (Portal opens on Tues, April 7)

Schools don’t have to pay.
….and at some point the athletes themselves must be held ultimately responsible for their choices.

A bit unfair since we’re talking about young adults 18-23 years old under pressure, sometimes heavy, from parents, friends, and an agent. Young adult but an adult nevertheless. Hundreds of transfers will end up in a worse situation. At the same time, no blame whatsoever for chasing the money.

Well immediate PT would be much more here than at Cincy given that portal add at Center for them. Now, how much more they offering and how might that satisfy a player by sitting on the bench more vs. PT?

Cinci also has three good sized (6'10 - 7'2) other players (F and two C's) returning besides the portal add, and two of those played quite a bit. Again, the path to the court is much more clean at IOWA.
So they probably have money if they have that many bigs. 😔

Yeah, he's also following Luke Barnwell, Tate Sage, Isaia Howard, Cam Manyawu, and Bennett Stirtz, among others.

I think we can step off the ledge for at least a little while.
It’s alway the unfollowing that catches my eye. I remember reading for football on people posting with certain targets when Barnes would follow or unfollowed was a better barometer.

Hundreds are also ending up in way better situations.

I just saw that Cam and Kyan played together in highschool at Staley HS in Missouri. Hopefully Cam is really recruiting their reunion

Can't hurt! I would assume he trusts what Cam says about the program and playing for BM.
Minnie can offer familiarity with the coach but BM may be offering a system that better suits Evans skillset.
If Ben wants him then I hope we get him.

Yeah; you'd think playing time would matter

The parents need to step in, too.

Addie Deal is just one example of many where a player ended up in a worse situation (now at Wisconsin).

What's sad is Iowa apparently has $12M to spend this year; you'd think that would be enough to land a center and a point guard. And what will that number be next year? 2 years from now? 5 years from now?

I know Ben is picky but I guess it really has become all about the money for these players (and their agents).

It's a reminder for kids to be careful what they post on social media. The Iowa staff is essentially doing a thorough background check. I forget the details, but I remember someone joking that staff members even talk to the high school janitor about a prospect's character.

Just wish Kyan Evans had more than 1 year remaining. This will be his 3rd school in 4 years.

He went from 10.6 ppg and 28 mpg his sophomore year at Colorado State (where he started all 36 games) to 4 ppg and 18 mpg at UNC.

His sophomore year at Colorado State (w/ Niko Medved as his HC), he shot 47% overall, 45% from three and 85% from the FT line.

Wow! Nice ride! The father in me hopes he didn't blow all his cash on expensive toys, but I don't know what I would do if I had that much easy money at 21.

It really is nuts, isn't it?

Before this was all legal, people would joke (some were pissed) about certain athletes driving around in a brand new, luxury vehicle. Now, it is probably very common to see.

I hope they didn't tell Kyan about the parking ticket issues in Iowa City! Parking police is right there when your meter expires! ;)

I'm a bit surprised that a former 4* recruit would chose to go to Campbell University. Looks like he was originally signed with OK St but then asked for a release. I wonder what happened that landed him with the Fighting Camels??

Edit: I found some backstory info. Explains what happened to him.

IMG_0885.jpegIowa State??? We cannot even get a commit and they are hauling a top 10 portal class….they are running a revenue deficit, but they are turnover their couches for coin to pay these recruits. Seems like we need a little sense of urgency or find another general manager to make better deals.

Gotta give credit where credit is due. They were aggressive at who they wanted and they got them.

WEIRD...Cincy lost 7-2 center to the portal. Does he want a lot more $ and McKeever is in their budget.

11. Moustapha Thiam, 7-2, C, So.
Transferring from Cincinnati

Thiam showed a tremendously high ceiling down the stretch of his sophomore campaign at Cincinnati. He had a three-game stretch in February in which he had 28 points and eight rebounds against Kansas, 21 points and 10 boards against Texas Tech, and 24 points and 15 rebounds against Oklahoma State. He averaged 12.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks on the season.

Quantity matters. Why we were in top 10 list last year.
