Had some forays with 8Ball but Crooked I was my cheap beer of choice.

BTW, Iowa now has Yuengling...the biggest PA to IA pickup since Spencer and the other PA guys.
I agree with Yuengling and PA - we got it here this past year and it is pretty solid. Much more than a "room" beer;)

As opposed to some of the smaller towns of Iowa where there are some nice areas and some areas that are shi holes.
Probably depends what you consider to be "small" - but I promise you would never walk around off the main business sections in many neighborhoods in major cities like Minneapolis, Chicago, St. Louis, etc. after dark. There are plenty you better not do it during the day. But you go ahead and try to compare what would happen there versus small towns in rural Iowa. Des Moines, Waterloo, etc. - of course there are problem areas there.

I hate to admit this but when I was in college and on a serious budget I was even relegated to Olympia on occasion 😅. Glad I'm not longer broke.

Well, they would mean our entire country is basically a **** hole then, right?
I suppose it depends on folk’s personal definition of sh*thole. 2025-26 US News and World report lists it as the 25th most dangerous city to live in. Minneapolis is ranked just below Milwaukee. It fluctuates from year to year, but it typically ends up in the top 50. FWIW no Iowa cities land in the top 50.

There was “Suds” and for us old timers there was Star beer… had to be bottled and a thin layer of ice on the inside of the bottle to make it drinkable.

I worked at Spinner McGee’s (second family) so I am partial to there and Brewster’s

in Waterloo, not far from the Gable museum was Pat’s (next to a Dolphin), where a group of 6 could all get shots and a couple pitchers of beer for like 6 bucks.
I worked at Spinners. Also hangout at Suds a lot. Anyone go to a party at the "Whitehouse" down the street from Stein?

Living in Oregon should be all that needs to be known. True echo chamber.
Says another guy from a different echo chamber. We got lots of them for everybody. I'll take Iowa City's until they ruin it. The rest of you can take your pick.

The basic problem for Minny is that JRob is dead and he's not coming back. Eggum's chances of coaching a title team are only slightly better than mine, and I've never coached. Unfortunately, Iowa's loss to Minny this year reflects more on Iowa that week than it did on Minny.

Any of you guys been to Ft Dodge? If so, you'd realize that we don't have much business picking on Minny, Eugene, Dallas, Tallahassee or anywhere else. However, lotta great wrestlers came out of Ft. Dodge, so I gotta respect that. Maybe it's one of those "If it didn't kill ya, it made ya stronger" sort of things.

Be honest . Iowa has exactly one good beer. Des Moines IPA from Confluence. The best beer I have ever tasted. It is to beer what tasty tacos are to tacos. The GOAT.
That's crazy talk. Toppling Goliath has a number of very good beers, Big grove as well. Compensation by lion Bridge has won awards as well. That is just on the eastern side of the state.

3.2 Flu lol

I used to work at the Crow Bar in Sioux Falls in college
Crow Bar is still going. I haven't drank the devil's swill in 25 years but in back in the day when we got to Soo Foo, they had this place that would open at 2am. They couldn't serve drinks but would sell packaged beer or bottles of liquor. You took it to a table and served yourself, stayed open all night.

Since you threw it out there, tell me specifically what is wrong with Waterloo. I live there, lurk here. You picked the biggest city in Iowa and then just grabbed another city with <10% of the population of all the other cities you mentioned. I have and do walk the streets of Waterloo after dark. Have you/do you live there? I not jumping in the left/right red/blue crap, I just want to know why you chose to say compare Waterloo with the rest of what you said.

There are a bunch of great Iowa beers, TG for sure(all the Sues), but confluence DM IPA is waaaaay up there.

I worked there for a year. One of the roughest places I’ve lived.

Not my place to be critical of any of you Nancies sipping on your IPA’s (probably with citrus slices) because Lord knows I’ve made my share of embarrassing mistakes in life. But who has the best Iowa-made stout? A good beer is supposed to have some backbone.
