NIL$$$ makes the name on the jersey less meaningful for the vast majority of schools ... unfortunately.

Well to be fair Kansas is getting Stokes and Tennessee hasn’t lost two recruiting battles to Providence lol
If you don’t have the right coach to sell the program, it’s not going to work.
CMP’s personality simply doesn’t fit the UK program and that’s deeply concerning. Sure, he may love the program but if the coach and the team are not compatible, nothing is going to work.
If the two are incompatible it will lead to turmoil. And I fear we’re possibly going into another season with team turmoil. It doesn’t matter if CMP was a good coach or a recruiter, the man simply does not fit Kentucky. It sucks because he so badly wants to fit in with us, but sometimes we all have to accept that the marriage is fruitless.

They might get Stokes, but they haven't yet. And you don't know if or what we offered or didn't offer the other 2. We might get blown out in the portal. But we haven’t yet.

To be fair to Pope (yuck) you can't take Jerry Tipton's son and Jacob Poopycheck's word as gospel on the portal.
At least 50% of the top 25 players will be off the boards come this weekend.
Cal once said “we eat first”. That totally went away his last few years.
And he left the buffet with one championship and a gut.
If a good player has any other options to play for someone other than Mark Pope, they are probably gonna take it, he has poisoned the UK brand.

When Cal was here, UK was the cool school, it made recruiting easy. Now we have a coach that isn’t a know winner, not relatable, not proven to get players to the league, how has that not poisoned our brand compared to what it was. If you havent noticed, we haven’t been getting our first choice players since he got here.
How does his personality match up with UK fans? Does he match our passion? Does he show it? The man has so far shown that he cannot sell the UK program to recruits or even the fans themselves considering how split we are.
To be the UK coach is like being a politician. There’s more than just coaching. He had to talk and keep fans, boosters and admin happy. He has to sell his vision. And so far? I haven’t really seem any vision from him.
Sure winning solves everything, but he’s doing a bad job keeping the “commoners” happy while he figures this whole thing out.
This is a bad place to learn on the job!
You make the mistake of assuming the voices on this cesspool of negativity represent the majority fan base. You also assume, based on no firsthand knowledge, that Pope doesn't connect with players. That's just more crap you read here. If he's offering the right money and playing time, he could do it in a Carrottop mask using Roseanne Barrs voice.

He has not done well with high school recruits, but I am still waiting and see with the portal.
First year, Pope got some of his first choices…
Butler, Brea, Jaxson Robinson, and Carr were all first choices, and they were all great fits to what Pope wanted to do.
Last year in the portal, not so much…some decent pieces, and some…not so much.
so, I’m genuinely curious to see how portal year 3 goes.
I have been a fan of Kentucky Basketball as long as I can remember. I was born in Cynthiana, but raised in Ohio. Nobody in my family gave a rip about football, so I became an Ohio State football fan only. The same way I became a Reds and Bengals fan. I've been here too long, with a history to back up my Fandom to care what hall monitor Woodrow has said, and you've believed.
Explain to me how CMP matches UK? What makes him so compatible with this school and with fans? I’m legitimately surprised and curious how anyone could think otherwise. Even if he were winning, I never felt the passion that guys like Pitino and Cal (his first 10 years) had.
Before he even came here plenty of fans were concerned that he simply didn’t match the passion of the UK fanbase and that he was going to have a difficult time selling recruits the brand because of the level of enthusiasm he has or doesn’t show.
This isn’t really an insult for CMP. He just seems like he would be better off at a school with lower expectations and fewer fans. At Uk he’s in a fishbowl. Everything he does and says will have UK fans latched onto every word and action. And you can’t expect fans to change decades of passion simply because the guy isn’t able to match.
I can’t help but feel like some of you are thinking I’m insulting him for saying he simply lacks the compatibility to match the high expectations of fans and the program, but I’m not. It’s a legitimate concern.
I don’t think the recruiting budget is the same as last season… doing the low budget roster for here on out

As we saw yday with Providence a lot of teams have money and you have guys that know this is the last best chance to make significant money so if a team offers a couple hundred grand more than a higher profile team many will take it. The amount of guys looking at winning and playing on the biggest stage seems to be dwindling.
He also yelled go and run a lot. NIL has changed everything and unfortunately college badketball isn't really college basketball anymore. Most of these kids and their handlers just care about the money!
According to the Goose he said this upcoming season we weren't going to have the same warchest we just had the previous season. I believe him if he says it I'd assume that he would be in the know.
No. We live in Surfside Beach SC. My wife is from here. I met her in 83 when I was stationed at the Myrtle Beach AFB. This seemed like a good place to settle.

If true then it might be the boosters trying to squeeze him out. They have more personal exposure to Pope than certainly anyone here, and may have come to the conclusion he isn’t the guy.
