He was put in a bit of a tough spot never getting to play next to a PG, but overall he just showed very little against good competition. He has 3 more years though.
Allen, Perry and Johnson are recent KY kids ... are Noah and Moreno next ??
I have criticized him a lot over the year. Probably more than any Kentucky player ever. I usually try to stay away from direct criticism of players, but he drove me nuts. With that said, I genuinely hope he picks a coach that won't let him get away with the crap he often does on the court. The talent is there, but he desperately needs to basically relearn how to actually play the game. Clearly Pope wasn't going to get it out of him. Probably best for everyone that he transfers. Best of luck to him.
It’s more like until the bottom falls out in the place becomes dysfunctional. I mean pope failed to define a role for this kid. A player of this kids magnitude you you put in in November December you coached the hell out of them starting in October but games in November and December when you’re playing popcorn state you’re getting this kid 25 30 Minutes and your coaching them game the game, looking at tape showing him what you expect out of him to continue the 20 25 min a game.Kentucky till I die, or until I don't get my way?

None of that happened not even close. This is the problem. This is why Pope is going to have a hard time recruiting freshman. He cannot develop them. He may be able to coach some older guys grad. Transfers may be able to get away with putting a team together like that and at some point Land one guy like a Lindenberg from Michigan and get lucky for a season. And you can have decent teams doing that, but you will never win a championship.. you can build a program and get some of these guys your first season. you know when you bring them in as transfers. Or bring them in as freshman. But you’ve gotta bring them in your first year freshman and sophomore. You’ve got to take some lumps and you have to build around those guys that’s called building a program. We don’t have anything close to that.
Chandler is the only guy from Pope’s first season that will contribute this year. If we had 5-6 Chandler types. Well, we will be having a great season next year. We have nobody to build around. Chandler’s likely gonna leave.. so it’s gonna be another year of transfers and if he can Land Stokes and some stroke of luck, it’s gonna come down to transfers I’m mean you’ve got Trent noah hanging around waiting to see if things shake out to where he’s gonna get Minutes. Because if we don’t bring in a ton of players, looking at big Minutes. Williams too, but Williams is a good bench level potential six man. Garrison, he’s gonna hang out. Hang around wait and see if something shakes out to where he’s the starter? Diabate the same?
I can still see some potential in him. He has enough length and athleticism to be a high end player, and has a good shot (34% from 3 and 88% at the free throw line albeit on limited attempts).
His game is extremely underdeveloped for such a highly rated recruit though. He doesn’t play much defense, doesn’t create for his teammates on offense, and even when hunting his own shot, didn’t seem to have a whole lot in his bag besides that sidestep or stepback 3 at times. Although that term usually seems reserved for physically imposing, but unskilled bigs, he’s a project. I’m sure some coaches will think they can get more out of him. I’ll be interested to see if they actually do.

Would that be from his penchant to drive into traffic with a loose handle and turn it over or his riveting, lock-down defense?
The kid might do well elsewhere, but he needed more time in college before he got anything close to starting minutes. Would've liked if he'd stayed, but oh well. Next man up.

That was my thing with the Uncle diatribe. What do you want Pope to do? The kid was unplayable. Offenses literally targeted him the minute he got on the court and his offense was nothing but ISO and hero ball that usually ended in tragedy.
Love that he gave it a shot and wish he would stick it out here, but that's not our offense. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if he went to Arkansas. Cal'll let him do whatever the **** he wants on offense and we all know that not playing defense isn't a deal breaker with him.

Sad to see. He’s one of our own. I hope for his sake he decides at some point to take the game seriously. But from what I’ve seen so far, I have my doubts.
Seemed like a kid that was at UK first to "showcase his talents" rather than work with his team to find easy shots. Defense was weak as well. I hope the young man can develop to his potential wherever he goes.
I agree in that the handling of JJ will be vehemently used against Pope for years to come with other programs.

Not a big secret. He told everyone he was out of there after the season. I'm surprised Pope let him sit on the bench and participate in team activities.
With some hard work and the right coach he could be a major player at the college level. Not gonna be easy but the natural gifts are there.
Overtime Elite didn't do him any favors preparing him for college. I know we need retention and he does have potential, but he's got a lot of stuff to work on. Bringing him back and relying on him for guard depth would've been a big gamble, imo.
Not sure why anyone goes there - it's the school of Hot Dogging. Their track record kinda stinks. I'm sure some programs wouldn't touch their kids. Uconn was on Meleek Thomas until he decided to go there.
If it was only him, I'd agree. Problem that was half of the team or more you just described.

Exactly, if we had decent players coming in this would be no big deal. We are in program death spiral unless something drastically changes.
All of the players except Moreno and Chandler would have to take a pay cut to stay at UK. Moreno is getting a raise because his usage rate was more than the staff anticipated with JQ out. Plus there would be a bidding war for his services if he entered the portal. I think Chandler is gone to BYU. Can't see him staying at UK with his wife having moved back to Utah,
