That’s easy. Hurley wasn’t expected to be this. Nobody really saw that coming. They weren’t able to lure a quality coach so they took a shot. He did have some small indications he could be good, like the way he dominated and turned St. Benedict’s into a national powerhouse. But this? No, even UConn didn’t expect it.
Then you have the 2014 title which was pure BS luck mixed with crappy officiating. They needed 10 things to do right and all 10 did. Total bs title.
They’ve been EXTREMELY lucky but that luck will run out. UConn dosnt have a good NIL budget and they don’t have crazy wealthy boosters. When Hurley goes pro and he likely will soon, they should go back down a bit. Maybe forever.
Duke is the much bigger threat to UK, and has way more statistical leverage to claim our spot than UConn ever will.
