Yes, I thought you couldn't have had a better crew for that post-game as an Iowa fan.Jalen Rose paid homage to those guys, saying how much he looked up to them as a kid from Michigan, and loving Iowa and Michigan uniforms.
You should sniff around eBay and/or set up a saved auto search as well…me too. I would kill for that poster right now.
Ol Bruce must REALLY like the tanning bedYes, I thought you couldn't have had a better crew for that post-game as an Iowa fan.
In addition to Jalen, oh, we just happen to have on the set an assistant coach of the last Iowa team in the Elite Eight. I hung on every word of Pearl's remarks.
First I'm hearing of thisIowa led UNLV 58-42 at HALF and only scored 23 pts in the second half to fall 84-81
UTEP was loaded.Yep. I went to the first round games in Tuscan that year, we we're lucky to survive UTEP after they knock Lute's team out. ( they were the higher seeded team ) but were playing in the McHale Center on the U of A campus. My brother and I went over and played some pickup ball at the " Bear Down Gym " on campus. Told the Az boys were were going to beat them on Saturday but UTEP knocked Lute out in OT and we survived. Couldn't afford to go to Seattle after that...
Yeah, kind of. They had 2 future NBA in Hardaway and Davis but they were sophomore and frosh respectively, the 5 starters all averaged in double figures though no NBA guys, while Arizona had 5 future NBA players including Sean Elliott and Steve Kerr ( though out with knee surgery ) plus future MLB player Kenny Lofton...UTEP was loaded.

Hardaway was an elite college and pro player. And Haskins was a great coach. Teams were much deeper back then.Yeah, kind of. Sir-Dunk-alot!!I swear Gerry Wright could fly. He wasnt the violent dunker that Cook was but he would glide in the air.

Us older dudes still have nightmares about it...First I'm hearing of this
Won 30 games IIRC. I was in the student section during these years. Super fun!!!Man that team was stacked.
Can you still hear Billy Packer's description of that play in your head? LOL. I do.Ed Horton was a beast. But I'm glad Marble convinced the refs into thinking he was the one fouled vs North Carolina
" Jeep " Jackson was their senior star that day, but sadly died of a heart condition that may have involved cocaine as well...Hardaway was an elite college and pro player. And Haskins was a great coach. Teams were much deeper back then.
Getting tips from Pat Forde, I'm pretty sureOl Bruce must REALLY like the tanning bedi was having a hard time even figuring out who he was at first
Too soonIowa led UNLV 58-42 at HALF and only scored 23 pts in the second half to fall 84-81

Same, has haunted me for decadesPainfully I watched that game as a kid
He definitely had a "baby face" -looked much younger than he was. Great player!Remember BJ Armstrong got ID’d at the Sears Tower as a Chicago Bull?
I had no idea this game bothered you so muchSame, has haunted me for decades
I loved the floor from the old Fieldhouse. The scripted Iowa has always been underappreciated.Bring back that floor![]()
Iowa led UNLV 58-42 at HALF and only scored 23 pts in the second half to fall 84-81
Iowa also lost double digit halftime leads in 1979 and 1981. Both losses would have put Iowa in Sweet 16. Fewer teams back then.Iowa led UNLV 58-42 at HALF and only scored 23 pts in the second half to fall 84-81
It's THE most painful loss for me to this day*. I remember going outside shooting baskets in the cold for maybe four hours. Did not watch another tournament game that year.Too soon
