In addition to Jalen, oh, we just happen to have on the set an assistant coach of the last Iowa team in the Elite Eight. I hung on every word of Pearl's remarks.

Yep. I went to the first round games in Tuscan that year, we we're lucky to survive UTEP after they knock Lute's team out. ( they were the higher seeded team ) but were playing in the McHale Center on the U of A campus. My brother and I went over and played some pickup ball at the " Bear Down Gym " on campus. Told the Az boys were were going to beat them on Saturday but UTEP knocked Lute out in OT and we survived. Couldn't afford to go to Seattle after that...

Yeah, kind of. They had 2 future NBA in Hardaway and Davis but they were sophomore and frosh respectively, the 5 starters all averaged in double figures though no NBA guys, while Arizona had 5 future NBA players including Sean Elliott and Steve Kerr ( though out with knee surgery ) plus future MLB player Kenny Lofton...

Hardaway was an elite college and pro player. And Haskins was a great coach. Teams were much deeper back then.

There was a lid on the basket for us and UNLV could not miss. Very frustrating loss.

CSB I got the worst case of blue balls ever during the Iowa-UNLV game. Iowa was so far ahead I went to a bedroom with a girl to make out. I caught the very end of the game. It was a double dick tease. No satisfaction. One of the worst days of my life.

I loved the floor from the old Fieldhouse. The scripted Iowa has always been underappreciated.Bring back that floor
Iowa also lost double digit halftime leads in 1979 and 1981. Both losses would have put Iowa in Sweet 16. Fewer teams back then.
It's THE most painful loss for me to this day*. I remember going outside shooting baskets in the cold for maybe four hours. Did not watch another tournament game that year.
*Bobby Olive is a distant second.
