Do we need to have a conversation about Jan Jensen?

Just no. Your lack of coaching knowledge is really evident. When your best players cannot make a bucket, that is not the coach. Get a grip folks
When you run a stilted offense with absolutely no movement and players that don’t have a sense for the game that’s on the coaches. Hell, Iowa was going to come down every possession run Hannah to the high post and try to jam the ball into Ava or let Hannah put her head down and try and charge to the basket. Every Damn Play. It’s so predictable. That’s coaching.

What exactly would you do against a rotation of four 6'4"+ players when the outside shots aren't falling. She can't shoot for them. The game was there for them to win, but we couldn't hit an outside shot or free throws. We deserved to lose, but I don't think it was because of Jan.

Think of all of the times people wanted Lisa Bluder fired.

On March 20, 2022, #2 seed IOWA lost to a #10 seed. Iowa shot 36% overall and just 23% from three.

On March 23, 2026, #2 seed IOWA lost to a #10 seed. Iowa shot 37% overall and just 17% from three.

I do worry about recruiting. Think about the big time recruits Iowa lost the last two years. Which schools did they end up going to? Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Texas. Well, they all made the Sweet Sixteen this time. They can all say they made the right choice. I can add Minnesota too.

After looking at the boxscore and minutes played.. 2OTs, so 50 minutes...
Virginia bench players contributed 58 minutes.
Iowa bench got 19 minutes.
Can't hit outside shots when your legs are dead.

As a coach you gotta give your starters a break!!!!
That was a massive mistake.
Can't be overstated.

I think she can recruit. But not a good coach. If we have another early exit next season there will need to be some serious discussion.

Also the fact that Hannah didn't improve at all over 4 years is alarming.
HS was always 100% effort, but too small for the "5" and no outside offense for a "4".

Why that never got fixed...who knows?
But it never did.
That's why any discussion of the WNBA is wishful thinking.

I worry about this too. Two second round exits post clark signal to top recruits that the program is listing. If the fans stop showing up then the selling points start to fade into the horizon.

It's stupid to compare those games because Virginia isnt a good team, and didn't play great. It would be different if they played out of their minds.

This is the kind of ******** that just drives me crazy. As a Power Forward yesterday, 19 rebounds, 7-12 from the field and 6 assists. Find me a better line than that from another Power Forward. To say she didn’t improve over her 4 years shows a total lack of bball knowledge.

Someone in another thread said they were amazed Hannah hasn't learned any new moves under the basket in the last 2 years, which seemed crazy because she looked a lot better under the basket this year than last year.

Bluder got Clark which Iowa most likely never have a player like that again, Jensen may or may not work out but totally normal to question a second year coach when you get upset at home to end the season

I would say more like Fran at this point. 2 second round losses in the NCAA tournament.
After reading posts and thinking about the game, I think next year will be the tell on Jenson's ability to learn and adapt her coaching. IMO having your game built around forcing the ball down low and not developing a complete offense is a recipe for disaster like yesterday. But maybe I missed all those sets for the offense this year. true, but it is highly doubtful there is a CC in Jensen's future.

I think you can't stand Jan. It's not like you are shy about it. For the talent she has, they play better defence than Bluders teams did.
This team got a humongous case of the yips after getting destroyed by UCLA she. Wasn't able to right the ship.. ok.. to be continued.
Couple things...better defense than Bluder can be summed up with one word ..Feuerbach. An elite, shutdown defender.

To me, the most glaring stat, other then the horrible 3 pt/FTs was in a game total of 250 player minutes...Iowa's bench played 19. 19!
Tired legs certainly isn't an asset leading to better shooting percentages.
19 minutes, and a couple of those were just after Ava fouled out.

Her FT shooting regressing this year was the killer. 12% reduction from last year to this year. 7% reduction from her sophomore year. Missing both of those shots when she got called for the Flagrant was just horrible when they made both shots and got the ball back on the other end.

I also don't know how you call that after the fact when she wasn't looking at the player behind her, was trying to shoot a layup with her right hand meaning her left arm is going to drop, and she was fouled during the shot that likely caused her to move in an unnatural manner. That dumb after the fact call really hurt, not to mention it took almost 5 minutes to review it killing any momentum we had.

After 4 Qtrs vs FDU and the first 2 Qtrs vs Virginia 2-25 from 3. Tired legs?

Have you ever watched a game where one team never substituted in the 2nd half?

I haven't.
Houston has been a "spark" all season.
Mystified, especially after Stremlow had so much trouble defending.
Again, preventing the other team scoring is the same as your team scoring.

Minnesota’s success concerns me. There are a ton of top players in the state of Minnesota who now see Minnesota as a great place to play while staying close to home. The ”Barn” was full of energy in their round two win. This can hurt the Hawkeyes local recruiting. Hopefully the Wisconsin pipeline stays open.

Who have we got from Minnesota? I know we missed on Greenway, usually UCONN gets the best Minnesota players... Sort of like Duke and Gonzaga in MBB.

We have gotten some very good players from Wisconsin off the top of my head, Logic and Gustafson.

Wisconsin recruiting angle will be interesting with Coach Plitzuweit at Minnesota. She is a Wisconsin native. Iowa passed on the best Big-Ten level Wisconsin player in the last 3-4 years (Grace Grocholski, now at MN, 2nd-team All BIG), and seemingly slow-played the best Wisconsin player this year (Natalie Kussow, who signed with Minnesota). Also interesting, Jada Seubert is coached by Gopher legend Janel McCarville, but Minnesota seemingly passed on her (no reported offer).

Jan Jensen is 50-18 in two seasons.
Lisa Bluder was 39-21 after two seasons and didn't win 25+ games until year 14.

Some of you guys are acting she took over Geno and ran UConn into the ground.
Iowa was 21-33 the two years before Bluder.

Ever heard the phrase "the cupboard was bare"?
Not a great comparison to what JJ stepped into.😆
But hey, I understand the position you're in.

no way - Even Jan was hesitant w/ her comments following the game yesterday saying "she'll get a look"........Might get drafted, might make a couple cuts, but does not have the skills(ball handling or shooting) to play in the W.

The cupboard was bare when Jan took the job. Nothing but bit players left with the departures of Clark and Martin. Without those 2 players that was a sub .500 roster in 2023-24. Lucy Olsen made them a plus .500 team last year.

NIL takes out your "cupboard was bare" excuse.
So does the nationally recognized fandom.

Sorry.
