Is AJ finally out of eligibility or does he have 1 more year?
He has next year.

He theoretically could apply for a medical shirt for the car crash and get 2028 too. It would be against NCAA rules for medical shirts, an abomination, and a complete mockery of the medical shirt, but we can't rule it out because NCAA. But IMO it's extremely unlikely now that he cannot be a 4x champ.

Too bad “earning the privilege” wasn’t applied a couple of years ago. If it was, he wouldn’t be here.

these two are an insult to the rest of the competitors. In last night’s semi and the finals of the Bigs, AJ waved his hands for stoppage immediately upon being taken down despite no actual injury. Consistent lung breaks. On and on.

Just leave already.

College wrestling is the best except for the lack of consistent officiating, especially when it comes to intentional inaction. I.e. stalling.

One thing that I think we are seeing way too often is the 0-0 first period. Three minutes and nothing. My solution is there has to be a stalling warning given. Or two if a ref cannot determine who the guilty part is. Subjective, but isn’t most stalling calls.

if after a trial period, if the problem persists, start awarding a stalling point instead of a warning.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t AJ also make a mockery of the Olympic Redshirt rule by not even bothering to compete? I cannot wait until both of them are finished.

Think about the big picture for a few minutes.

In a regular season match, you only have the 10 wrestlers competing one time.

In a tournament, they can compete quite a few times. And the way the consolation brackets are set up, a wrestler that loses in the opening round and then makes it all the way to the 3rd place match would have more matches than a wrestler that never lost (including the final). But if you scored it the same as a regular season match, then the wrestler that won all those consolation matches would/could score more points than the wrestler that took 1st place. Is that really what you want?

So they had to come up with a mechanism to make winning on the championship side more valuable than winning on the consolation side. It's actually a pretty sound system.

People know the scoring system for regular duals because they are 90% of the what fans watch. By comparison, most don't know the intricacies of the tournament scoring because they only see that a few times a year.
Thanks, Tom. I did think about that briefly, but figured (apparently incorrectly) that the placement points would take care of rewarding the Championship side.
I appreciate the explanation.
I didn't understand what the I Love Lucy gif was trying to me, so this helps! ;)
